Himno de Batalla Deportiva

The Sporting Battle Hymn (Spanish: Himno de Batalla Deportiva), known by its incipit "Adelante Panayenses" (Onwards Panayenses) is a victory song sung by the national teams of Panay Islands and Guimaras after a win against an another national team.

History

When the Australians challenged the Panayenses into an Australian rules football match, they needed a club song so the Aussies can hear it when they win. So a player named Heliodoro Samuel Cañete, who has an Argentinean friend who supports his country's political party, the Radical Civil Union, suggests that his national team should adopt the party's anthem and helped him the lyrics, inciting that they would beat the Australians. But when the captain of the national football team, Narciso Ho heard that song, he could ask the Aussie rules team to have a permission because "it can be sung not just you guys only, but as a victory song for the Panayense athletes." And when Heliodoro and the captain Julio "Jun" Flores heard that, they would love to say yes. And that victory song will be heard in the Panayense national team locker rooms after a win.

CURRENT LYRICS

¡Adelante Panayenses, adelante hasta morir!
Es el grito de la patria que te apoyan y seguir.
Y aplastar a los rivales que no nos dejan ganar
Pero por Dios juramos que nos vamos a vencer.

Onwards Panayenses, onwards untill death!
Is the cry of the homeland that supports and follows you.
And beat the rivals that won't let you to win
But we swear to God that we will overcome.

ORIGINAL 1956 LYRICS

¡Adelante Panayenses, adelante hasta morir!
Es el grito de la hinchada que te apoyan y seguir.
Y aplastar a los canguros que no nos dejan ganar
Pero por Dios juramos que nos vamos a vencer.

Onwards Panayenses, onwards untill death!
Is the cry of the crowd that supports and follows you.
And beat the kangaroos that won't let you to win
But we swear to God that we will overcome.
