The Technically Free ♻ Land of Meropis is a gargantuan, environmentally stunning nation, ruled by The Leader with an even hand, and notable for its rum-swilling pirates, museums and concert halls, and strictly enforced bedtime. The compassionate, hard-working, democratic, humorless population of 16.252 billion Meropisians have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The relatively small government prioritizes Industry, with Education and Environment also on the agenda, while Spirituality and Defense receive no funds. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Anostos City. The average income tax rate is 8.1%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The frighteningly efficient Meropisian economy, worth a remarkable 4,147 trillion Pompas a year, is led by the Information Technology industry, with significant contributions from Tourism, Retail, and Gambling. Black market activity is frequent. State-owned companies are reasonably common. Average income is an amazing 255,205 Pompas, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 2.9 times as much as the poorest.

The government subsidizes everything from particle physics to fabric softeners, stealing from a clothesline is a serious offence, tourists are denied entry because of a distant relative married to a Lilliputian, and programmes of questionable content are shown at peak-hours. Crime, especially youth-related, is pervasive, with the police force struggling against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Meropis's national animal is the Ipotan, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.

Meropis is ranked 37,729th in the world and 50th in Lands End for Largest Trout Fishing Sector, scoring 4,566.62 on the Nemo Depletion Efficiency Index.
