Meadowfields

The Republic of Meadowfields, commonly called Meadowfields, is a federal republic in the planet of Grebenvoc. It is bordered on the north by Kyurt, on the south by the Southern Grebenvoc Sea, on the east by Yharfide, and on the west by the Western Grebenvoc Sea. Meadowfields covers over 1,000,000 square kilometers and has has an estimated population of 933 million. Meadowfields is a federation comprising of 4 states.

Meadowfields was first established as a confederation of 33 tribes in the southwest of Grebenvoc, named Mædæcerscínfeld in 538. The confederation's territory was first scattered over the very southern parts of today's Meadowfields, but later extended to surround the Hornmouth River. In August 1537, the Empire of Kyurt launched a full-scale invasion of Mædæcerscínfeld, quickly subjugating it under its control as a puppet state named the Kyurtese Meadowfieldian Colony. In 1896, a big tent army of nationalists, named the Army for the Liberation of Meadowfields (ALM), revolted against Kyurtese control successfully and established the First Republic of Meadowfields. The First Republic of Meadowfields was headed by a familial dynasty which picked a group known as "The Big Twelve" to elect the legislature, which was deemed unfair by many. This, along with a rise of corruption, a high cost of living, companies controlling the highest ranks of government, rampant corporatocracy, and lack of welfare, caused a failed revolt in 1933. This led to extreme repression by the government, followed by forced disappearances, mass executions, extreme levels of censorship, and genocide and force relocation of minorities. In 1997, remnants of the original ALM along with a popular army named the Socialist People's Militia started a two-year revolution, named the Dignity Revolution. The Dignity Revolution was ultimately successful and led to the establishment of the Second Republic of Meadowfields.

Meadowfields is a developed country, with a high national GDP of $138.23 trillion. The per capita GDP of $102,192 ranks highly in the world, although the country ranks even higher in inclusiveness, welfare, niceness, compassion, cheerfulness, and employment, among others. It has been praised for its policies such as proportional representation in elections, AI personhood, animal personhood, abolition of prisons, market socialism, universal healthcare, among others, however the nation receives criticism for its "radicality", high taxation, and relatively low economic freedom. It is part of the The North Pacific, the Grebenvoc Union, the Bestogha Union, and the Phyrychoe Union.

Etymology

The name Meadowfields comes from the old name of the Confederation of Mædæcerscínfeld, which itself comes from Ancient Meadowfieldian "mædæcer" meaning "meadow" and "scínfeld" meaning "fields". Meadowfieldian is the demonym for a citizen from Meadowfields.

Tribal Settlement

The first tribes in the area which is now Meadowfields were the tribes of Inbranaid, having what is now Meadowfields City in its very east and stretching all the way to the ocean; Inveria, around today's Feanestia; and Penkneth, around the present-day city of Penkneth. The Penkneth and Inveria tribes, along with the Argisia Tribe (covering the very south of today's Yharfide), and the Saikia, Jaria, and Mandoria tribes (around the current border of Meadowfields and Kyurt) formed a defense pact named "Dryhtsibb", becoming allies of each other. Meanwhile, the Inbranaid Tribe became allies with tribes around the west and north (mainly the Myanian, Jinstian, Bayan, Jarmanian, Dut, Khuldean, and Denean tribes). At the same time, the large Chulagian Tribe encompassing parts of modern Kyurt and Mabuga tried to influence those tribes, along with the large and consolidated kingdoms in the east. Along today's Yharfidian-Meadowfields mountainous border, scattered bands of peoples lived together, causing that land to be nicknamed "The Wildlands".

40 years after the creation of the planet Grebenvoc (133 of the Second Age), the Chulagian Tribe officially assaulted the allies of Inbranaid and the Dryhtsibb pact. They started with the Bayan Tribe, capturing all of its cities with the exception of its capital, Saikhanzaad, which went under siege for 8 months. The allies of the Inbranaid tribe attempted to form a defensive wall around their borders, blocking the Chulagian Tribe from attacking them, but the Chulagian Tribe's allies from its north and east (namely the Monkh and Cortia Tribes) sent their forces in to attempt breaking the wall. The Chulagian and Monkh Tribes eventually set their eyes on the Jarmanian Tribe (an ally of Inbranaid). They quickly captured its northern and part of its western territory. As the two tribes set in dangerously close to the capital of the Jarmanian Tribe (Ergaralzit), the other allies of the Inbranaid Tribe sent large portions of their forces to aid the forces of theirs already there and mainly the Jarmanian forces. The Monkh Tribe then set its eyes on the small, neighboring Khalh Tribe, and captured its sole city and capital (Buutsogt). At the same time, the members of Dryhtsibb were informed of the attack on the Inbranaid Tribe's allies, and sent their forces north through some of their semi-allies to aid the allies of Inbranaid.
