The Free Land of Lyariona is a very large, cultured nation, remarkable for its deadly medical pandemics, compulsory gun ownership, and complete absence of social welfare. The hard-nosed, hard-working, democratic population of 102 million Lyarions are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.

The minute, pro-business, outspoken government, or what there is of one, is solely concerned with Education. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 4.7%.

The strong Lyarionic economy, worth 7.30 trillion Lyarionic Notes a year, is driven almost entirely by the private sector, which is broadly diversified and led by the Information Technology industry, with major contributions from Soda Sales, Automobile Manufacturing, and Arms Manufacturing. Average income is 71,614 Lyarionic Notes, but there is an enormous disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 423,983 per year while the poor average 5,581, a ratio of 76.0 to 1.

Drivers regularly pull over for nonexistent police cars, the government mails weekly updates on the new anti-junk mail laws to every citizen, the optimally efficient parking strategy for business commuters is referred to as the "traveling salesman problem", and wind farms are erected on shuttered oil platforms. Crime, especially youth-related, is pervasive, probably because of the absence of a police force. Lyariona's national animal is the Moneybird.

Lyariona is ranked 277,177th in the world and 527th in Talonia for Most Extensive Public Healthcare, scoring -3.16 on the Theresa-Nightingale Rating.
