The Most Serene Republic of Kastilya is a huge, safe nation, remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape, state-planned economy, and stringent health and safety legislation. The hard-nosed, democratic population of 476 million Kastilyans love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.

The medium-sized, socially-minded, outspoken government juggles the competing demands of Administration, Education, and Law & Order. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Leoncio. The average income tax rate is 37.4%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but underdeveloped Kastilyan economy, worth 15.0 trillion pesos a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a slick, highly efficient, fairly diversified black market in Woodchip Exports, Basket Weaving, Cheese Exports, and Trout Farming. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is 31,436 pesos, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Prisons are filled with the cackles and sobs of a deranged inmate population, citizens can only enjoy the splendor of the natural world in designated 'Majesty Appreciation' zones, the citizenship exam requires years of study to actually pass, and Kastilyan police have to pay out of their own pockets for bulletproof vests. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Kastilya's national animal is the lion, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.

Kastilya is ranked 271,757th in the world and 1,169th in the West Pacific for Largest Populations, with 476 million capita.
