The Protectorate of Karuk is a huge, orderly nation, remarkable for its closed borders, ban on automobiles, and frequent executions. The hard-nosed, cynical, humorless population of 565 million Karukians are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

The large, corrupt, moralistic, well-organized government prioritizes Defense, with Law & Order, Administration, and Education also on the agenda, while International Aid isn't funded at all. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Ministry of peace. The average income tax rate is 71.0%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The all-consuming Karukian economy, worth 68.4 trillion Dictators a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a large, well-organized, fairly diversified black market in Arms Manufacturing, Uranium Mining, Woodchip Exports, and Furniture Restoration. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is an impressive 120,986 Dictators, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Meat-eating is frowned upon, dangerous criminals are often 'accidentally' sent on one-way trips to Maxtopia, the once prosperous capital is in utter decline, and citizens live in superstitious fear of the mysterious glowing clouds that float over Karuk. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a very well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Karuk's national animal is the SCP, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.

Karuk is ranked 8,115th in the world and 13th in Commonwealth of Liberty for Most Avoided, scoring 352.66 on the Kardashian Reflex Score.
