Overview and History of Kafair
Kafair is a massive nation, home to nearly 423 million people. Spanning the great deserts and rocks of the Middle East, it has been sited as "a defenders dream, and a conquerors nightmare."
Founding of Kafair
(Alternate history inbound!) Born in 1812 out of a small rebellion over the oppression of the people within the territory that is now Israel and Lebanon, the rebellion took a string of forts, and fended off an army of 30 thousand led by Grand Vizier Hurshid Pasha on the 8th of October to reclaim the land. The broken Viziers army retreated to a nearby fort, and from it sieged out the fort the rebels had occupied. Calling on support from the populace of the now territories of Jordan, Syria, and what was so far untouched in Lebanon, an army of roughly 23 thousand peasants and deserters was raised, with the defecting Ottoman general Sadleif Yetlan leading the troops to battle. Meeting the now reinforced and bolstered Grand Viziers army of nearly 68 thousand.
This army was all the troops that the Ottoman Sultan Mahmud II could spare, due to numerous other rebellions in other provinces. As the two armies met on the battlefield, it was clear that the ottoman army, numbering just shy of 3 times the size of the rebels, had an advantage. But, with some effective planning by Yetlan, the rebels would meet the enemy on higher ground, and with what little captured cannons they had already facing the approaching Ottomans. The 5 cannons would fire, causing respectable casualties to the Ottomans. Annoyed, impatient, and under pressure from the Sultan, Pasha ordered the 10 thousand men under Yetlans long time friend Suleiman Ayyub (a direct decedent of the legendary Ṣalāḥ ad-Dīn Yūsuf ibn Ayyūb, known as Saladin) to head on charge the enemy.
Using clever flag work, Ayyub was able to contact Yetlan, and inform him of an incoming horseman. Soon enough, a member of Ayyub's personal guard, who had broken away and raced to deliver a message to Yetlan. The last remaining scrap of this message, which would change the course of history in the region, is currently on display in the Kafairian Institute of History, in New Jerusalem, reads:
Glory be my fri------------------------------------------
--And so I wish unto you my well being.--------------
For the vizier has ord-- so upon my approach,------
my guns shall be yours, and by your comman--
--I shall turn t-
so that the vial Pasha may longer not ali-----------
Glory be unto you!----------------
This scrap, which is broken or unreadable in places, and has only been half translated, very clearly shows the intent of Ayyub to betray the orders of Pasha, which is exactly what happened. And, as they readied to climb the small hill to Yetlans men, and yet to be fired on (with Yetlan ordering his men to hold their fire), Ayyub and his troops turned, and in one fluid movement fired into the long lines of Ottoman troops. Pasha, being at the front, as nearly hit, but survived, though a good 5 thousand men were hit in the volley. Then, seeing this, Yetlan's troops fire, felling another 2-3 thousand men. Seeing this, The divisions under Urak And Rasheed Walatel deserted the Ottomans, and retreated back to Ottoman lands from the battlefield. Pasha's troops now number some 20 thousand men, a third of it before.
Pasha, now outnumbered himself, attempted to retreat to Fort Aveir, but was stopped quickly. Another volley ripped into the now retreating ottomans. And, taking this as the time, Yetlan ordered his and Ayyub's men together to charge. They hit the rear of the retreating Ottomans, scattering them from their organized retreat into a wild race to safely. But, there still remained Pasha, trying to rally his troops together. To stop him, Ayyub drew his gun, and aimed it. Pasha was moving, and was over 70 yards away; far out of the range and skill of Ayyub to shoot him. But Ayyub felt within his bones a feeling, and he fired, the shot ringing out, stopping the battle as all looked to it.
The shot flew, already fall behind the moving Pasha, but then, according to written diaries from both troops and Ayyub himself, the shot glowed a bright yellow, and sped up, turning, and hitting the already far off Pasha in the head, killing him in an instant. As the shot hit, a bright light shined out, burning up the body of Pasha. No one has found a scientific reason for this event yet.
The rebellion spread, and by the month of December, the territory of modern Israel, Jordan, and Lebanon had been declared an independent nation, by the name of Kafair, named for the word a spirit in the mind of Ayyub and Yetlan the day after the battle said. And for Kafair, Sultan Sadlief Yeltan ruled. For 3 years he ruled the nation, until his death by illness. In his place rose his friend, Ayyub. Upon his rising to the job, Ayyub re-named himself to the Sultan Suleiman al-Karim. He ordered that upon the land the battle had happened, a city be built, by the name of New Jerusalem, to become Kafair's capitol. (New Jerusalem is in the name place as modern Jerusalem, which in this case never existed) Karim, having attributed the voice and shine of the shot that killed Pasha to the sun, declared the worship of the Sun and Moon as the religion of Kafair. Suleiman ruled for a healthy 42 years, before stepping down to allow his son to rise to the job. Two statues, one of Yetlan, and one of Suleiman, now stand at the entrance to the Royal Palace.
History in WW1 and WW2
Over the next 100 years, Kafair expanded, heavily damaging and weakening the Ottoman Empire. By 1912, Kafair had taken over the Ottoman empire, and had stayed Neutral in WW1. This meant that Kafair was able to keep its territory, and learning from it, stayed out of WW2 as well. In the wake of the weakened nations around it, Kafair snatched some more land, before settling down finally, to focus on internal issues and stability.
Modern Day, and the Azure Sky Rebellion
By 2019, Kafair was going strong on the international stage, where it joined the Confederation of Corrupt Dictators. At this time, a small string of rebellions popped up along the coast, but were quickly put down. While Kafair did only gain power while in the confederation, and gained close allies, new forces lingered in hiding. Free Kafair, which formed at this point, started to gain power and approach their goal. Planting agents in Oman, they readied for the day they called the day of the Azure Wave. Launching their rebellion on the 24th of January, 2020, by the 27th they had captured the whole of Oman, and named it the DRFK (Democratic Republic of Free Kafair). War was declared by the Sultan Ori al-Karim, who called upon help from close allies in the CCD. Unfortunately, due to the apparent betrayal of the Confederation by Kafair, and its forced removal by OBH blast, the Azure Sky Rebellion stopped, just for a moment. Taking this second of confusion, the Sultan ordered an all out attack on Azure Sky defenses. This broke the already weakened rebels (who had been losing public support steadily), and led to the re-annexation of the DRFK. All rebel leaders were publicly executed.
Upon entering the AWF, Kafair began to pioneer space colonization, founding the moon colony of Jerusalem Minor, and claiming the whole south pole of the moon as its own. They then founded 8 Martian colonies, followed by many more. Currently, the Martian governor for Kafair is working to establish the MCP to unite the scattered martian colonies of multiple nations.

Kafair is a monarchy; the only "party" is the Kafairian Monarchist Party (KMP), of which the current Sultan is its head. Political freedoms are unknown. Every vote is to the KMP, which in itself only exists as a tool for the monarchy to deflect issues of "lack of representation." It is no secret to the people who is really in charge.
Sultans and their terms
A sultan comes to power only through the death or resignation of the one before him; its rule for life if one wants. This has led to some issues, with corrupt sultans ruling for far longer then should be possible.
There is a small sect of people within Kafair who are a part of Free Kafair. Its is, for all intents and purposes, a terrorist organization. Thinking that the monarchy is the enemy of Kafair, they wage a war in the corners and far reaches of Kafair to try and destabilize the monarchy. While so far unsuccessful, they have proven a pain to dislodge.
Kafair's police force, known overarching as the RKPF (Royal Kafairian Police Force), is a mixture of ex-military personnel, military recruits who had a change of heart, or volunteers. While having been sited as both "unnecessarily aggressive", and "and army for the cities." Standing at a large 1.5 million personnel (the modern US having about 1 million), the police force uses a wide range of weaponry.
From military grade assault rifles on normal officers to common use of grenades and sniper rifles, the police is outfitted in a similar manner to the military. Swat and other special units of the police force have been known to make use of APC's and IFV's in high risk/high unrest areas. On 6 occasions, military grade tanks have been used by police units, though that is a last resort situation such as open riots and rebellions. All military personnel, if not already trained in the military, undergo 6 of 23 weeks of basic training in the RKA (Royal Kafairian Army). This will let them complete very basic firearms training, along with building teamwork, organization, and differentiation of authority. The recruits them complete the 10 week police training academy, which has multiple instructors who are retired drill sergeants in the army. The training is very similar to that within the army, but focusing on some other areas the army doesnt touch on.
Kafair can be seen as a mix of the cultures of all its middle eastern territories combined. While Kafair does follow some jewish traditions such as the Sabbath, which was changed to fit the worship of Helion, but also holds a high standard to food quality, similar to the idea of Kosher or Halal. They do take the biggest influence from the jewish people though, due to Kafairs history.
Kafairian Military Branches
The Royal Kafairian Armed Forces contains the following branches:
1) The Royal Kafairian Army (RKA), comprising and overseeing all ground operations.
Kafairian troops have perfected the desert camo, such that the camouflage has been called the "Desert Ghost Camo". Snipers many times wear nets over their bodies, which are covered in sand and rocks. From a distance, they are just another sand bump. Kafair is known for producing renown snipers; their harsh training drills into them a statue like patience. Mandatory Conscription into the armed forces for a minimum of 3 years means that the whole of Kafair's population is trained in combat, and can and will be called up in dire times.
2) The Royal Kafairian Navy (RKN), overseeing and executing all naval operations.
The navy, being perhaps the most active branch of the military, is seen as a very flashy enlistment choice.
3) The Royal Kafairian Air Service (RKAS), commanding and overseeing all Sky based operations.
Both branches are in competition, though commanders are trying (rather fruitlessly so far) to alleviate this. While the RKAFF tends to draw more daredevil, unorthodox fliers, the RKAA is very much the more traditional branch of the airfroce, and they dont miss a chance to let the RKAFF know that.
4) The Royal Kafairian Special Operations Division (RKSO), which within it contains the:
i) Special Forces Divisions
ii) Paratrooper Divisions
The paratroopers act as a bridge in the gap that is the rivalry between the RKAFF and the RKAA. Both groups view the paratroopers in the highest light. Unlike many other nations, paratroopers are normally dropping in large numbers. Their most recent use in the Second Jocospite Civil War (Part 2) saw a mass deployment of nearly 7000 of them in one drop, in a mass attack on the city of Rondlor (Think I spelled that right). While they did suffer high casualties, they did gain high levels of respect from their peers in the Armed Forces.
5) The Royal Kafairian Space Service (RKSS), executing and defending space assets and positions.
The RKSS is the newest branch of the armed forces. They are tasked with the job of both escorting all manned missions to found colonies, defending Kafairs many colonies on Mars, the Moon, and Mercury, and guarding the DSDs. They are a powerful force, making use of Kafairs large space power to grow and expand.

Kafair is a very traditional society. If you are not a royal or noble, woman have little rights on the whole as compared to males. They put significant value into honor, and someone who is seen as "losing" that honor is often viewed the same way a criminal is. Many nobles/rich civilians carry swords on their person.
Over time, some have begun to whisper that every 8 rulers, one will emerge to forge a path to greatness unlike any others before him, but directly after, one will emerge who is cursed to ruin it. While its unsure if this is true, some cases, like Sultan Enriar al-Karim, and his successor, Balalarque al-Karim, maybe cast light onto the reasoning for this. Enriar is one of the 7 Great Sultans. He is renown for his far flung and highly profitable trade routes, and as a master of diplomacy. When he died, his son Balalarque took his spot. Things went wrong instantly, with Balalarque closing the routes, declaring war on those who they once traded with, losing all 3 conflicts, and being executed in a coup. This was all in the span of 2 years, and ruined inter-nation diplomacy for years, until the next of the 7 Great Sultans arrived to the scene.
The House of Karim is also rumored to be blessed by the Sun itself, with multiple historical accounts detailing the sun god, Helion, appearing to sultans in time of need or great tensions. All sultans carry special swords or maces, made for them specifically by the Royal Blacksmith, a man whos job it is to ensure the Sultans weapon is forever in good condition. The job is given to the greatest blacksmith of the current age, and is still filled to this day, with the Royal Blacksmith Adrian Hernan holding the spot. While to many it might seem a redundant and out of date position, especially for a futuristic and space-faring nation like Kafair, but that is the biggest thing about Kafair. Traditions and culture is incredibly strong to people, a bond that holds them together beyond blood. This is seen in the military's use of swords, though it is part of its doctrine, and as been regulated for special uses in situations other weapons wont get the job done. This culture is what makes a Kafairian a Kafairian, what makes them proud to hail and salute to that blessed flag. That almost makes the Kafairian populace loyal, a trait that Karims have used throughout their Sultan terms to bolster armies, increase production, and more. A sultan which can master that skill is sure to be set for their term with a loyal power base.
All of the weapons of the historical sultans have been stored, and are currently held in a classified location within New Jerusalem, though faithful, government issued copies exist for exhibits and locations of education. There is a hall within the Royal Palace which is covered in pictures and paintings of the various sultans. The images go back as far as Sultan Sadlief Yeltan, and some can be found below. The paintings are on guard constantly, and it has happened more then once where multiple have been stolen, by either visitors or criminals, but all have been found and returned. All of them can be authenticated to their respective time periods. A few are currently under standard renovation and checks, and are not available for the time being, though they should be back in place soon.
7 Great Sultans
These are the step down from the Big Three. They are the Seven Greatest Sultans of Kafair, those being:
Sadleif Yetlan, 1812-1815 (First Sultan, Freed Kafair from Ottomans)
Suleiman al-Karim, 1815-1854 (Second Sultan, Founder of House Karim)
Hetmiz Herim Gavaz Barish al-Karim, 1866-1893 (Fifth Sultan, Economic Mastermind who modernized Kafair with great speed and efficancy)
- [The Great Schism, with Kafair splitting into 8, and a massive civil war ensuing]
Baroquz Mariz Said al-Karim, 1903-1938 (Fourteenth Sultan, Military Genius, Ended Great Schism, expanded the borders with great speed in a time of world unrest)
- [Beginning of the Age of Gold and Steel, with so far three consecutive Great Sultans]
Enriar al-Karim, 1943-1957 (Sixteenth Sultan, Economic Leader, created Allies and Trade in a time where the world was at war with itself)
Adil al-Karim, 1957-2019 (Seventeenth Sultan, Diplomatic Paragon, forged Kafairs strongest and closest alliances to date, adored by citizens and leaders in and out of Kafair)
Ori al-Karim, 2019-?? (Eighteenth Sultan, Lover of History and Warfare, rebuilt ancient monuments, won great wars, tightened relations with nations such as Kyavan, 2nd imperial german reich, and Russia Major. Term still in progress.)
The Big Three
The Big Three are the single most legendary leaders that Kafair has ever seen. The Big Three are Sadleif Yetlan, Kafairs first sultan, and the one who freed them of Ottoman oppression, Suleiman al-Karim, the second, and founder of the House of Karim, and Adil al-Karim, Ori's father, and both the longest reining and most influential of the sultans, with a rule spanning over 62 years, until his death at the age of 79. The Big Three are all also within the group of the 7 Great Sultans.
Kafair is the worlds largest exporters of sand, glass, silica, and other sand based materials.
While many nations have criticized Kafair for its lack of representation of woman in society, much of this has fallen on deaf ears.
Swordplay is the national sport of Kafair.
Kafair still makes use of the death penalty, and is one of the last remaining nations to do so.
The Military is a large force in peoples lives; refusing to join will lead to significant difficulty getting a job, or getting into higher education.
Kafair is a very rich nation, making use of a massive amount of Middle Eastern oil to make an easy profit. After the crash of the Oil prices in the 1980s, sultans and Oil tycoons (who are all royals) have made it a point to teach themselves and their children/heirs how to study and monitor the market, to ensure that they will not cause another crash.Template by Kirislavia,
