The Confederacy of Isles of Govia is a very large, socially progressive nation, notable for its barren, inhospitable landscape, absence of drug laws, and complete absence of social welfare. The hard-nosed, hard-working, democratic, devout population of 147 million Isles of Govians are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.

The minute, pro-business, outspoken government, or what there is of one, prioritizes Defense, with Spirituality and Education also on the agenda, while International Aid and Welfare receive no funds. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 4.6%.

The very strong Isles of Govian economy, worth 11.6 trillion Govian Dollars a year, is driven almost entirely by the private sector, which is broadly diversified and led by the Gambling industry, with major contributions from Arms Manufacturing, Automobile Manufacturing, and Uranium Mining. Average income is 78,910 Govian Dollars, but there is an enormous disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 434,344 per year while the poor average 7,268, a ratio of 59.8 to 1.

Strange men lingering in offices distributing television sets is a basis for a system of government, the latest Harry Potter book is a bestseller, the nation's orphanages and maternity wards have been nicknamed 'the Killbot Factories', and boot polish is the favourite lip gloss of entry-level corporate workers. Crime, especially youth-related, is a major problem, probably because of the absence of a police force. Isles of Govia's national animal is the Platypus, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to heavy metals seepage into national waterways.

Isles of Govia is ranked 140,196th in the world and 4,337th in the Rejected Realms for Most Developed, scoring 53.52 on the Human Development Index.
