The Independent Republic of Insurgia is a sovereign state located in northeastern Abathon. Its territories include the Abathonian isles. It is bordered by various disputed territories. It is renowned regionally as a capitalist, right-wing militant nation with policies focusing on its military prowess. The country is a member of the World Assembly and a founding member state of the Union of Sovereign Satellite Republics. Insurgia is a mountainous country with many rivers that run north. It sports cold and harsh winters, beautiful springs and falls and a cool summer season. Over 11 billion people occupy the land but in more flat areas of the country. This leaves many mountain ranges empty with only those who want to be up there.
Since the territory was founded in 1545, the land was quickly inhabited by the Kingdom of Treilund. Many settlers immigrated to the newly annexed countryside, looking to start a new life or escape an old one. The Kingdom of Treilund sought to banish many criminals to the land as well, exiling them to the harsh wilderness. This made the land more dangerous and violent than it already was. The Treilundian settlers eventually sought out for independence in 1681 and engaged in a war with Treilund for 11 years. In 1692, the war was won and the now dubbed Insurgians occupied their new country of Insurgia.
Insurgia enjoys limitless economic, political and civil freedoms. Though this allows for some anarchy to ensue, 96% of citizens own at least two firearms, often discouraging crime. The countryside is a beautiful tourist spot along with the mountain ranges that follow. Iniapolis is an economic hot spot for the region as no sanctions have ever been placed against any other country. Free trade is rampant but heavily monitored as to prevent any domestic attacks that could've been prevented. The country is in a perpetual state of peace, despite the recent Great War and the ongoing corporate expansion orchestrated by the Fargo Syndicate.
In May of 1949, after nearly 260 years of the traditional 'Red Revolt' flag that represented Insurgia and her people, the Congress approved the adoption of a more modern and peaceful flag.

Foundings, Colonial History and Conquests (1692-1799)
Insurgian history begins in 1692 with the Kingdom of Treilund giving independence to their traitorous settlers. For the next 29 years, the young country dubs itself as a constitutional monarchy before finally outlawing the usage of "King" in the context of someone with political, economic and military power in the nation. A new constitution is quickly drafted and the new constitutional republic is established in 1721 with the Republic of Insurgia.
The now dubbed Empire of Treilund, the successor of the very same kingdom, attempts to retake lost territory in 1732 and sets their sights on Insurgia. In March of 1735, the first Treilundian ships and soldiers sail to Insurgian waters and make way on Insurgian soil. The Treilundian Instrusions begin with the start of a full-scale military invasion. It takes only three weeks before Treilundian soldiers reach the Insurgian capital and attempt to seize the powers of government. They are met with a quick response by the Insurgian military. Throughout the fighting, the occupied zones of the city undergo immense civil uprisings. Many citizens take up arms against the invaders and use guerrilla tactics in the city-scape until military support managed to break through. The capital siege is quickly ended in May of the same year with a decisive Insurgian victory. Over the course of the summer, small skirmishes ensued between militia and regular army forces against the Treilundian invaders over the countryside. The war on water wasn't as kind to the Insurgians however. With no real navy, the Treilundian Empire was able to send in more troops from the sea, snatching any guarantee of a land victory for the Insurgians. In October, the naval forces of Arkham Nation arrive and contest the Treilundian invaders on the water. The Treilundian Intrusions end with the signing of unconditional surrender by Treilundian General Eckert B. Harmann on December 4th, who was cornered at the coastal town of Harmony by Insurgian militia and regular army by land and Arkian naval forces at sea.
To further emphasize the nation's independence, 11th President Jameson Cole officially adds, Independent to the national title in 1739.
In 1743, 12th Insurgian President Arthur B. Strauss pushes for the development of a naval force. His proposal is successfully funded and the Insurgian Navy is founded. In 1745, the annexation of the Abathonian Isles occurs along with the military oppression of her indigenous population. With this, it becomes increasingly apparent the amount of racism abundant in Insurgian culture as support for military colonization often grew at home and was violently supported by the civilian populous. Over the next two decades, Insurgia begins annexing unclaimed territories to their south and west borders eventually marching as far as the modern-day northeastern border of Intresha. The military forces, seeing the malnourished treatment of the Slavs are quick to provide aid but are quickly dispatched by the police and military forces of Marathonn. The Impasse of Saratov during 1768, is known historically as a deciding factor that had the outcome been different, could've halted the further suffering of the Intreshan peoples. The Insurgian military decidedly backs off from the Intreshan border, seeing as they had been beaten to the Slav's by a foe of equal strength.
After a further three more decades of colonization and annexation of territories, the Insurgians meet the border of the now crumbling Empire of Treilund, glaring at their old foe with hungry eyes.
The Pillaging of Treilund and Civil Uprisings (1800-1843)
In 1800, the Empire of Treilund was a shell of its former self. Many citizens were malnourished, indebted to the ever-growing Empire of Marathonn. With its military in shambles and no Marathonnian forces to police, the Insurgian government realized a sinister yet advantageous and profitable opportunity. Without hesitation, the Insurgian army invades the Empire of Treilund, laying waste to the former military and further liberating the country from its vile rulers. Over the course of 5 years, the country is pillaged for what value it had with many skirmishes taking place between Treilundian troops. In 1806, Insurgian forces are finally retasked with rebuilding the former country but no longer as a Treilundian state. The Empire of Treilund and her territories are officially annexed by the Independent Republic due to no contest. Insurgian borders grow to the largest they've ever been.
Over the next decade, homeland Insurgians begin moving westward toward the Treilundian countryside, settling among their once former oppressors ironically. The Treilundian citizens after reconstruction are severely mistreated and shoved around like garbage, fueling an ever existing hatred between the two nationalities.
The powder keg finally goes off in 1814 when Treilundian civilians start a civil uprising in the former capital city. Insurgian forces are quickly dispatched the quell the uprising and do so successfully. The next three decades are littered with dozens of uprisings and quiet rebellions by Treilundian citizens, young and old until finally citizenship rights are given to the Treilundians in 1844 by a Senate Bill in Insurgian Congress. The Treilundian Civil Uprising are successfully silenced and though there is a stiff hatred after the end, throughout the years, Treilundians are eventually and slowly accepted as Insurgians.
Racial Turmoil and Decolonization (1845-1902)
Though the Treilundians fought for their rights to be citizens, they did not gain self-governance but rather assimilated into Insurgian culture. Other acquired territories and their indigenous populations sought after the very same thing the Treilundians were denied in trade for citizenship, self-governance. When many of these territories requested self-governance, they were quickly denied, ignored and eventually those who conspired to do more than just request independence were silenced by any means. In 1862 with the arrival of Jewish Rabbi Rami Alhwari to Iniapolis, he was met with violent racial crowds who protested his visit to conduct talks of separating from the Republic to form a nation that acted as a safe haven for Jews everywhere. He was hastily denied. Throughout the remainder of the decade, lynching mobs harassed, injured and even killed citizens of Jewish, Muslim or Treilundian descent. It was finalized in 1871 that an established Jewish state would be made out of elect provinces in southern Insurgia. The following year, elections took place and three provinces split from Insurgia legally.
With the creation of a Jewish state, many other Insurgian territories requested to split from the Republic. To further prevent any more conflict within the borders, many acquired territories were released back to their indigenous populations. By the end of 1895, Insurgia has decolonized 67% of territories acquired during the colonial era. The only territories that remained were the Abathonian Isles and the former Empire of Treilund. When it was contested by Treilundian representation to request self-governance in 1896, they were swiftly denied on terms that—"...the Treilundian culture swiftly accepted rights of citizenship over guaranteed extinction but at the cost of ever being able to self-govern..."—they were no longer allowed to self-govern.
In 1902, Congress passed a bill that stated the illegalization of seceding from the Republic, killing any chance of Treilund restoring itself to power.
Industry, Technological Advancement and Old Enemies (1903-1937)
With the development of the Maxim Machinegun by Arkham Nation in 1915, Insurgia quickly hopped on the technological bandwagon with their old ally, hoping to seize technological prowess on the Abathonian continent. Still at odds with Marathonn, Insurgia signed a trade deal with Arkham Nation, receiving many technological marvels of the time. Industrialists and weapons manufacturers took what they had received from Arkham Nation and began to cross produce it with their own designs until the most liked product came about. Military contractors eventually ended up producing M1 Garand's, M1A1 Thompson's and Browning Assault Rifles from the designs that came from Arkham Nation.
With Insurgia and Marathonn at each other's throats for control of the continent, two things became abundantly clear. Marathonn was amassing a large scale army and activating their Imperial War Machine, spitting out thousands of rifles each day. Insurgia struggled to keep up with the Marathonnian machine but struggled faintly behind. Marathonn was clearly decades ahead of them in terms of production and technology. Tensions were the highest they had ever been in 1931 when a new Chancellor of Marathonn had taken power by use of nationalist ideals, declaring—"We must take what is ours! Not the continent! But the world!"
In 1936, seven other nations sign a military pact and trade agreement with Marathonn. These other nations pose a similar threat as Marathonn does and are fueled by nationalist ideas. They receive a surplus of Marathonnian technology. Insurgia responds by quietly amassing an army of their own. For the first time in history, Insurgia imposes economic sanctions on eight other nations, including Marathonn. A year later, President Hendrix Arthur Kelly is elected President of Insurgia. He dictates, "We shall defend ourselves and we shall defend the peace of the world and her freedoms."
The Great War (1938-1948)
Tensions finally explode in February 1938 when a coordinated and simultaneous attack takes place across dozens of nations across the globe. Insurgia is hit by a Marathonnian Blitzkrieg and quickly dispatches units to defend the country. All the while, countries around the globe are caught off guard by impending invaders later to be known as the Group of Eight led by the fascist Empire of Marathonn. By the demands of war, technology is rushing to advancement. Every able-bodied man volunteers for the military despite a draft already instituted. Those who cannot serve on the battlefield served in the factories along with the women who replaced their husbands. For two years, Insurgian and Marathonnian forces fought in the countryside, away from major cities and industrial hot-spots. Insurgian casualties were at a stagnant 2 million by 1940, 90% of them being military personnel.
In 1941, the line breaks and the first major city is lost to Marathonnian forces. The first major civilian casualties of the war are at Hailey's Cross with an estimated 10 million people perishing in the genocide. During the year-round genocide, Marathonnian forces constantly struggled with Insurgian militia that popped up every so often. They used this as a reason for genocide. Insurgian forces are sent to contest the Marathonnians at Hailey's Cross and halt them from reaching any other large towns or cities. They are met with swift and punishing tactics by Marathonnian forces.
In 1942, the Liberators finally push the Marathonnians out of the country and chase them miles across Abathonian country. They do battle with combatants from several different countries, including troops from Intresha, a slave state of Marathonn. With the war finally out of Insurgia, industry is at an all time high. Jobs are no longer scarce.
For the remainder of the war, Insurgians do battle across several different continents against enemies they know nothing about. The 1st Allied Expeditionary 'Dragoon' Battalion is founded in 1943 and is pitted against the Marathonnian PzG's, one of the most feared groups of soldiers on the battlefield. The outcome is successful for the Allies as the Dragoons win every engagement. One of the most renowned engagements is the Battle of Crow Falls in the country of Kidala when the Dragoon Battalion, a group of 729 hardened Insurgians faced off against 2,132 PzG's and through harsh casualties, successfully defended the town.
With the end of the war in 1948, Insurgia counts off its casualties at 1.323 billion. Most of which however were military personnel. President Kelly of Insurgia, with the votes of Karaq, Arkham Nation, and Kidala, decidedly dissolve the Group of Eight which included Marathonn. Insurgia no longer had any enemies.
The Great War had ended.
Insurgia is home to dozens of mountain ranges scaling from 1,000 feet to the highest on the continent, Mt. Falliyon, which reaches at a tremendous 28,923 feet. Dotting the country are hundreds of rivers that run north from the mountains and fill out into the ocean. In the west of the country, mountains line the border, making it especially hard for invaders to enter the country by ground. To the north is the Great Plains, often littered with crops and wheat fields. The singular peninsula is home to one of the most extravagant vineyards in the world. To the east is a hill country that stretches all the way to the coastline. The center and south of the country is home to dotted lakes that are made home to a large portion of the Insurgian population. Much of this part of the country is left untouched by the government for the sake of its beauty.
Insurgia has an estimated population of 11.628 billion people, ranking 2nd in the region. A census is taken every 10 years, with the first taking place in 1850. The growth is 1.2%, a product of a baby boom. The largest ancestry group consist of whites which make up 89% of the population and the rest are dispersed among black, Asian and other minorities.
English is the official and first language of 95% of the nation. The other 5% use some form of Treilundian dialect as a first language.
75% of the nation identifies as Christian. 20% is split among Jews and Muslims. The further 5% accounts for non-religious persons.

The Independent Republic of Insurgia is a Federal presidential constitutional republic which follows the framework of the 1881 Constitution. Amendments requires a two-thirds majority vote through Congress. The constitution draws very similarly to the US constitution. There are separations of powers listed through the three branches of government. The people of Insurgia are subject to three levels of government.
Local Government: Administers police and fire forces as well as other public works. Protects the right to private property. State and Township Militia's operate at the local level.
State Government: Responsible for education, infrastructure, and taxation.
Federal Government: Headquartered in Iniapolis, IRI, Abathon, the federal government is responsible for national defense, foreign policy and guarantees basic human rights.
The Federal Government is composed of three branches:
Executive Branch: Headed by the President of Insurgia. Can veto legislative bills, appoint cabinet members and Supreme Court Justices, and is commander-in-chief of the Insurgian military.
Legislative Branch: Made up of the Senate and the House of Representatives. Makes federal law, declares war, allocates federal funds, and approves treaties.
Judicial Branch: Made up of the Supreme Court and lower federal courts. Has the power of judicial review, and is the highest legal authority after the Constitution.

Constitutionalist Red Party: Controls majority of the Senate and the House. Radical right-wing politics with aims to keep close to the constitution which dictates extensive freedoms and open foreign policy. The political representation of the current social and political atmosphere of Insurgia currently. 49/100 seats in the Senate. 225/435 seats in the House.
Insurgian Nationalist Party: Controls the second most amount of seats in the Senate and House. Far right-wing socialism is their specialty. They aim to rally up the Insurgian population into a glorified state of patriotism and nationalism. Goals include order, promotion of military imperialism and extensive remodeling of the current constitution to benefit a more monitored society. 44/100 seats in the Senate. 153/435 seats in the House.
Green Party: A very neutral standing political group with goals to promote specifically environmentalism, nonviolence, social justice, participatory, grassroots democracy, gender equality, LGBT rights, anti-war and anti-racism. They have 2/100 seats in the Senate. 37/435 seats in the House.
Treilundian Nationalist Party: A pacifist political group with efforts and goals pertaining to that of restoring the mostly forgotten Treilundian state. They represent the massive percentage of Treilundian heritage in the country. They have 1/100 seats in the Senate. 20/435 seats in the House.
As of 1949, Insurgia takes an active role in keeping other nations in check. After the Great War, Insurgia took on the role of clean up and police. It is a member of the World Assembly and is leading military and economic power in the Union of Sovereign Satellite Republics. Insurgia spends over $105 trillion on national defense, over a third of the federal budget. The Insurgian Armed Forces is made up of four major branches: The Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force. Each branch serves professionally. Supported and partly funded by the Army is the Insurgian militia which guards most towns and cities inside the country.
The military has 4.6 million on government payroll.
It is a major military and economic power, providing aid and trade to most, if not all nations that align with their political ideologies or agendas.
Since before the Great War, Insurgia remained victim to an increasing and ever-expanding black market which was soon harnessed by a home-bred conglomerate corporation which is well known to originate out of Fargo, Broyton, IRI. The Fargo Syndicate, as the Federal Bureau of Investigation has labeled them, is so well entrenched in the Insurgian economy that it has become virtually impossible to shut them down. In recent years, the Syndicate has pushed to foreign borders in aims of expanding their corporate domains and achieving bigger profits. The Syndicate is known to run several crime rings involving racketeering, weapons, drug, and human trafficking, fraud, contract killing, and prostitution. As far as the FBI knows, the Syndicate operates across at least two continents; Abathon and Vaudus with the Arkham Mob operating hand in hand with the Syndicate on Vaudus.
There is an obscene amount of corruption in politics due to the Syndicate. Their policies and their survival align with that of the Constitutionalist Red Party which supports to keep an open and free market rampant in Insurgia. It is the conclusion of the FBI, that the Syndicate aims to keep the dominant party in power through bribery and other violent means in order to keep the free markets open.
Insurgia operates under a system of free market capitalism. The nominal GDP is $469 trillion. The private sector ends up running most of the economy at 45% with the federal government coming in at 2nd place with 36.7%. The rest of the economy is hidden under the rug and ran by the Black Market at 18.4%. Unemployment is at 2.58% largely due to the economic freedoms all Insurgians roll in.
Insurgia is the worlds largest exporter of goods with Arkham Nation coming in at a close 2nd. Insurgia's trade surplus comes in at a huge $788 billion.
Arms manufacturing is currently the nations leading industry of growth with tourism, book publishing and gambling coming in close behind.
