The Independent Republic of Boldonia is a nation located in the Pacific Ocean. It contains many beaches and tropical mountains. It is on of the newest nations in the world. For most of its history it was a US territory won after the Spanish-American war, and only gained independence very recently. Still Boldonia has close ties with the United States.

History

Pre-1899

The land that would become Boldonia was first settled by Polynesian sailors in the late 1300s. On March 5, 1521 Ferdinand Magellan reached Boldonia and plotted it on a map. Years later the Spanish would colonize the islands and wipe out the native population. The Spanish would turn Boldonia into a plantation island.

American Conquest

In 1899 the United States would invade Boldonia during the Battle of Eastisle and take the islands and neighboring Guam. Boldonia would be developed and would soon become its own territory. It became a prominent site in World War 2 when the Japanese invaded the island only to be engaged in an aerial stalemate until 1944. During the Cold War, Boldonia was a prominent refueling station for the US Air Force enroute to Vietnam.

Post Independence

After it gained independence Boldonia was inducted into NATO and is one of its major members in the Pacific. Also around this time Boldonia would seek to make the area around it safe, engaging Brasilistan in a war soon after independence to make sure it wouldn't be a threat in the future.

Geography

Boldonia is located east of Guam and north of the Federated States of Micronesia. There is a smaller island to the east of the main island one-third the size appropriately called Eastisle, which is also a part of Boldonia. The south of the country is more humid and contains many beaches. The middle of the nation houses the Boldonian Rainforest and is also very humid. The north is substantially less humid and has large mountain ranges.

Demographics

Boldonia is a somewhat diverse nation with its population of 7 million, although not as diverse as many others. Population growth is a whopping 500,000 per year, although most of it is immigration. Most of the population is American as most of the natives died when the Spanish took control. After its independence many Europeans moved to Boldonia aswell as some East Asians.

The Independent Republic of Boldonia is a federal presidential constitutional republic, with its government modeled after the United States. There are nine different states in the republic. Each state, including the Boldonian Capital Territory, gets three senators in the senate, and a population dependent number in the House of Representatives out of 365.

The Independent Republic of Boldonia Military Forces (IRBMF) is decently sized, rivaling some smaller pre-existing militaries. It is unique in the fact that the Air Force is the primary military unit instead of the Army like many other nations. The military mostly uses old surplus US equipment and old ships about to be scraped. The Boldonian Navy's ceremonial flagship is the USS Boldonia, an old Fletcher-Class destroyer which still keeps its original designation.

Economy

The Boldonian economy is capitalist, however due to the large welfare and socially oriented policies it is considered by some to be puedo-socialist. Its GDP of INSERT NUMER is rapidly growing by INSERT NUMBER dollars each year. Since 1900 Boldonia's currency has always been the US Dollar, however most money in the nation is not physical. The economy is mostly run by tourism, fishing, and arms industries.

Transportation

The transportation network deserves special note, as one of the most efficient without relying on public transportation. Except for air travel, the only public transportation in the country are intra-city.

The Boldonian Interstate System was originally a part of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Interstate System. The nation has more milage of Interstate Highway than some western US states. A few of the highway stops along them are ethier government run or state run.

Air

Boldonia is a common destination for tourists from North America, so airplanes are a common site. There are three international airports in the nation, North Point International Airport, Boldonia International Airport, and Parmilo International Airport.

Sea

There isn't a lot of passenger traffic to the nation except for the occasional cruise ship. There is a single ferry service in the nation from the mainland to Eastisle, although most prefer to fly to Eastisle.
