The Federation of the Imperial States of Duotona (commonly shortened to Imperial States of Duotona or just Duotona) is a federal republic in the Pacific, located on the Fiji archipelago. There also exists a overseas territory within Forest, which was created to increase communications with everyone within the alliance. Whilst not directly bordering any country, it is in close proximity to the Solomon Islands, and New Zealand. The nation is around 18,000 square kilometres in size and amasses around 1.5 million citizens. Being a federation, Duotona is split into 22 regional districts which hold their own councils.

The islands were first inhabited around 20,000 BC, when a land bridge existed between it and Indonesia. The nation in the form it is known as today was created around 900AD, when the tribes that had been in a state of constant war with each other signed the Forge Agreement which would unify them into one single state. The nation would endure steady economic growth under its monarchy and the 1st Republic from the early 19th century until the 1970's. Duotona has a strong French influence after the two countries formed an alliance when the French discovered the nation in the mid 19th Century. Duotona still holds its place as a cultural centrepiece of the Pacific to this day.

The nation has a reasonable GDP of Ð2.1 Trillion, with each citizen earning around Ð52,000 on average. This is also accompanied by the fact that the nation has a large amount of income equality, with there only being a Ð30,000 gap between what the average bottom 10% earn and what the average top 10% earn. The country has large industries in the production of cheese, books and most predominantly honey and wax. It is also a member of the Global Treaty Orgaisation (GTO), a spiritual successor to NATO, as well as full membership in the United Nations.

The name 'Duotona' dates back to the earliest written work found in the country, dating back to around 15000BC. The name itself is the Native Duotonan word for 'two colours' or 'two shades'. Early writings list the two colours referenced to be the yellow sands of the coast and the green forests, but many in the country in modern times debate over whether the name should've (or was intended to have) been related to the mountains or the sea, but no other historical records have been found that prove this fact.

The first mention of 'Imperial States' in referral to the country was in 1455 when a notice from the monarchy declared that 'the isles that this kingdom has etched her name into is split into 14 sections, in order to focus resources towards those in times of great peril.' Despite not being an empire, the name was adopted by all the predecessors to the monarchy as the name had become a common way to refer to the nation by the population, especially in more wealthy areas.

Other abbreviated versions of the name have become more common in recent years, including (but not limited to) ISD, The Imperial States, Imperial Duotona and Duo. The usage of these words vary depending on language and dialects from many countries.

The first signs of life on Duotona can be traced back to 20000BC, when a land bridge connected the island to places like Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, and some early settlers began to inhabit the island, and would subsequently be unable to leave after the land bridge ceased to exist. With a permanent population in place, the people still on the island would form three main tribes, which were mostly divided by race and place of origin. Three tribes were the Sunlans, the Dao Yu and the Duotonans, which originated from South East Asia, China and Indonesia respectively. After many disputes, the Duotonans would end up being the dominant force on the island, and would eventually come to be the racial majority in the island, even into the present. They would also establish the religion of Mammalicism around the time they came to power, which they had created after many of the tribe members had created a strong bond with the animals on the island.

The Duotonans would inspire an age of technological innovation in their later rule, which would not only lead to an increased understanding on the functions of basic items around them, but also more gruesome internal conflicts as weaponry became more efficient at killing people. This all came to a head between 25AD and 35AD, when the Duotonan leadership would fall and the country would collapse into many small clans, which were most commonly commanded by the person with the most cultural influence over the land, those mainly being the wealthy. Many years of infighting would continue, which would majorly slow down the advances of technology in the island, and they would fall behind compared to their neighbours. The fighting would come to a peaceful end in 704AD, when a treaty known as the Forge Agreement was signed, which would unify all the clans into one country under the monarchy of the largest tribe at the time, that being the Muont tribe, situated in the north within the mountain range of the island, which would be named after them much later into the future.

The influence of a centralised government was felt almost immediately, with a large push to gain back all the lost time in terms of technology when the states were at war. This time is often referred to as the 2nd Duotonal Golden Age (1250 -1700), in which a lack of war allowed for developments in terms of living standards, technology and exploration. This is also the time where the first trade routes were set up around Asia, and also when honey started to become the country's most valuable export, as it was much easier to import honey from Duotona in comparison to places like Europe. They also very frequently worked on stabilising the Pacific and their tribes peacefully, which allowed for a more prominent culture to develop around the Pacific, Australia and even as far as Indonesia and Malaysia.

As the golden age soon began to end, and the economic prosperity of the country began to decrease, a noticeable wealth divide soon began to emerge between the working class and the aristocracy. This only worsened over time as the monarchy had to tax the poor more harshly to fund militaristic interventions in the Pacific, which were already unpopular with the lower classes. This all came to a head at the 1798 Grey Fields Incident, where a peaceful protest organised to push for better conditions for the poor and increased rights for women was met with a cannon being shot into the crowd, which killed 42 of the people there, which is still one of the most fatal incidents in the country's history. This would lead to the Blue Uprising, a series of revolutionary events that occurred between February of 1799 and May of 1801, which would eventually lead to the removal of the monarchy after a major storming of the Hightop Palace where the royals lived and the establishment of the Republic of Duotonan States, under the leadership of a democratically elected council of members of which most were key figures in the revolution's success.

Foreign powers would become the Republic's main focus point after their establishment, as they began to realise the colonial powers of the time, such as the UK, France and Prussia (and then later the German Empire). Despite the fact that the military's size had been reduced slightly to fund the promises to give people better standards of living, it was well trained and was put on high alert in case of intruders. Eventually, the French would land on the island in August of 1866, under the commandment of Hugo Hubert. Initially panicked, the government would take him in as hostage and enter an emergency meeting with the French to discuss their motives. The French, under the realisation that the Duotonans had similar technology to them in all but military and that Hubert landing there was a mistake and he did not mean to be aggressive, they were able to convince Duotona to let him free and also created an alliance with the Duotonans that was mainly to guarantee the independence of them. The European success here was thanks to their earlier stabilisation of Oceania and South East Asia, which also made the colonisation in and around the region significantly more difficult.

This alliance would carry on into the 20th century, where Duotona would remain neutral in World War 1, knowing that they wouldn't get much out of it and that it was a war on the opposite side of the world that did not concern them. After World War One, communist and fascist parties would appear in Duotona following the establishment of the Soviet Union and the growing presence of the NSDAP in Germany respectively. Despite their popularity in Europe, these ideologies did not go down well in Duotona, as their messages of restoring the country to former heights was less effective in a country that did not feel the effects of the First World War and was relatively unaffected by the Great Depression. Once the Second World War broke out in September 1939, the Fascist party was banned altogether, following pressure from the ever growing Japanese and the German invasion of France. Once France fell in mid-1940, Duotona sent more aid to the now isolated Britain, especially in the North Africa campaign, where the hot weather of Africa was more natural to the armed forces of Duotona. At this time, Duotona's military would develop its flagship weapon, the DSA35, which was used heavily in North Africa and the Pacific, but not at all in Europe. Duotona would join the Allies in the Winter of 1941, which was ignored by the Japanese, who saw Duotona as "not worth invading", according to Emperor Hirohito. Once Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, Duotona offered some help in the island hopping campaign, and survived many desperate attempts by the Japanese to take the islands. These attempts failed due to the more extreme terrain of the island, Duotonan soldiers being more prepared for the incoming Japanese due to not being invaded throughout 1941 and the Americans offering some aid to them.

Soldiers burn leftist books shortly after Milson gains power, 1970.

When the war ended in 1945, Duotona was offered some islands in the peace treaty, but declined and instead advocated for the liberation of the countries instead. Once the Cold War began, they did side with America, but did not decide to join any of the proxy wars such as Afghanistan and Vietnam. This came as a big annoyance to the military, who believed that their importance was being downplayed after their involvement in WW2. This especially annoyed the head of the Duotonan Military, Luka Milson, who believed that Duotona was being 'soft' in the face of foreign powers and their influence on 'true Duotonan culture'. He would then gain the support of the military, and stage a military coup on June 27th, 1970, and would eventually seize power under a military dictatorship. Life under Milson's Dictatorship would be compared to that of North Korea, with completely closed off trade in and out the island and him being held as a greater power to those underneath him. Despite not getting involved at the time, NATO would heavily monitor the status of Duotona. They still kept membership in the UN, and one of the most memorable images of Milson's reign came in 1980, where he gave a speech that lasted two and a half hours until he was forcibly told to stop. Despite sharing many ideals, Milson completely rejected the idea of joining the Warsaw Pact, citing his ideas of self sufficiency. The living standards of the country dropped drastically, especially in the 1990's, where nearly 2% of the entire population defected out of the country that decade.

After increased threats to invade its neighbours and sightings of clear mobilisation happening within the country, the newly established Global Treaty Orgaisation decided unanimously to take action against Duotona, which was advocated for by French President at the time Jacques Chirac, who was it as more of a threat than sending his troops to Iraq. Under combined GTO intervention in late 2005, Milson was forcibly removed from power, sent to the US to prevent a similar situation from happening and then put on trial there as well. He would be jailed for life later that year. A democracy would be implemented in the country, however some of the military hierarchy were allowed to stay as long as they swore an oath to stay democratic and never instigate another dictatorship again. They also joined the GTO in November 2007.

In recent years, Duotona has experienced another steep growth in economic growth, as they slowly recover from the effects caused by Milson's reign. One of their steepest growing industries is automobile engineering, with models such as the Dreamotors Rex and the LiThium Fern being widespread in sales, especially in Australian and American markets. They ranked most improved in the 2020 version of the UN's Democracy Index, with it being noted that 'Duotona has made a genuine effort to improve civil rights, living standards and electoral transparency ever since the start of the decade.'

Duotona is a extremely geographically diverse nation, which is mainly consisting of the mountain region, the sand region, the forest region and the valley region. The mountain region is situated in the North East of the country, consists of the entire Muont mountain range, and contains many mountains that have been described by climbers as some of the trickiest to climb. They can be identified by their light grey rocks, unusual side profiles and tendencies to cause snowstorms in the area in the winter, around New Years. Their unique features have been noted to keep tourism high during the winter, as it has become a hotspot for climbers who wish to hone their skills in awkward situations.

The sand region is the part of the island situated in the West that experiences little rainfall year-round and stays consistently warm, which has been amplified thanks to climate change. It is a popular local holiday destination, with many people coming to the area in the summer. The area is identifiable due to its white sand beaches, common growth of palm trees and it being a hotspot for many species of exotic bird. This is also the area where the Duotonan bee can be spotted in Spring and summer, which is the national animal of Duotona. This is also an area that has now become vulnerable to natural disasters, with tsunamis becoming increasingly more likely in the last 20 years.

The forest region is located in the centre of the country, and separates each of the other three regions from one another. This area is important, as it holds many of the wild animals in Duotona. Due to this, is is heavily administered so only a limited amount of trees are cut down a year and that livestock slaughtering is kept to a minimum, and is mostly reserved for sectors of Mammalicism that require animal sacrifice. This is the area of Duotona with the least popualtion, with only those living primitive lives being noted in the area.not

The valley area is the flattest and most widely inhabited area in all of Duotona. Spanning all of the south and parts of the east, it is where most industrial advancements have taken place. 71% of Duotonans live in this area. It is recorded to have a climate similar to that of the Southern UK, and is properly protected against flooding. Due to these factors, this area is often colloquially referred to as 'The Goldilocks Strip'.

Duotonan House Of Copper, pictured in 2017

Duotona is classified as a parliamentary federal republic, meaning that whilst there is a centralised parliament building in the nation's capital where main governmental issues are addressed, smaller local sub-governments are set up in order to deal with local issues that don't necessarily concern the rest of the island. The parliament itself is then divided even further into two subsections: The House of Copper and the House of Steel. Both the main government and the local councils have a term limit of 4 years.

The Duotonan parliament is located in the nation's capital of St Hubert, in a building known as the Collective Assembly. On the lower floor is the House of Copper, in which each seat is filled by 2 representatives from each district who were voted in elections that take place anually, unless the parties are all in agreement that the actions of the person in question were unjust, and will be removed out of their seat in a democratic election consisting of all the other reprsentatives. This house is mainly concerned with the creation of new legislations that will affect the nation as a whole, and the initial passing of them. Each representative can come forward with ideas, however if a petition has reached an adequate number of signatures (25,000), it must be at least discussed in this house and put to at least one vote.

The upper house is the House of Steel, which is a also made of representatives of each district, however only one is selected for this house and it is often hand selected from the upper management of the council of said district. This house is overseen by the Head of State, who also judges this house and keeps it in order. This house is the final stage of debate and vote for new laws, and when a law passes in this house, it will be written into law after being announced and then implemented after a week's notice, unless the law is an emergency law intended to protect the people. (e.g. a pandemic, war, shootings)

Local Councils

The local councils in Duotona almost act as mini-parliaments, where members of each party choose what legislations come into place to deal with local issues. These buildings are located often in the capital's of the regional capitals. The districts represented are as follows:

-City of St Hubert
-Edge of Crest
-City of Kantan
-The West Bank
-Gold Urban Regions
-The South
-Gulf of Auroras
-Vinel National District
-North Douzic
-South Douzic
(The other district is the Duotonan Nature Reserve, however it has no council or house representatives due to it having a population of zero.)

All of the aforementioned regions hold a streamlined version of parliament, and are tasked with dealing with issues that arise locally. The centralised government, however, does hold power to block certain legislation in extreme cases where a clear abuse of power is used or if the resolution would cause extreme harm.

Elections surrounding Assembly Members (or AM's for short) happen once every year, and elections surrounding the head of state happen once every four years. The legal voting age is sixteen.

The AM elections are predominantly done through mail-in voting. Every household is given enough slips to vote on (according to his many legal voters are in it) with each of the AM candidates, which run as a duo for each party. You can also opt out of getting a slip of you don't want to vote or if you wish to vote online on the government's official website. The CDP (Conservative Duotonan Party, Broadly Right Wing) and the LUP (Liberal Union Party, often Center Left) are the two most prominent parties to vote for, but other parties include the Green Party (an environmentally protective party), the New Mill Party (NMP, Extreme Right Wing Authoritarian) and The Hammers of the People (HP, Extreme Left Wing Authoritarian). The party with a 2/3 majority will represent both seats, however if a majority is not reached, the seats will be split between the two largest parties, with each party getting one seat each.

The Head of State votes happen alongside the AM elections when they come around. Instead of voting on a slip, the people will go to a polling booth, which can be set up in areas such as schools, businesses and sports halls, and will choose a Head of State on a slip of paper in secret. In recent times, electronic screens have been implemented instead of the slips, and talks are even circulating to scrap the polling booths altogether and instead move the whole process online. The candidate will often be the leader of the party, however if a party leader does not wish to be head of state, they can nominate someone to be the candidate instead. Despite this being an option, no party leader has nominated someone else since 2005 when the new government came into place.

The economy of Duotona is large when put into the perspective of the population. The country has a nominal GDP of 2.1 Trillion Duona. It has been mostly stagnant ever since 2005, however recent investment in science and business has allowed for new growth to occur within it and has made it grow much quicker than it had been doing. This GDP is split quite evenly between citizens, with a pretty unclear divide between the rich and the poor, and the average income for citizens per year is around Ð52,000. The majority of businesses are privately owned trans-national corporations, some are owned by the state, which is most often the case when a company nearly goes bankrupt but the government offers them a bailout, in a similar situation to General Motors during the 2008 financial crisis. The largest industries in the country are food production, book publishing and health/medical products. The roots of the food production industry in Duotona can be traced back to the medieval period, when trade routes were opened across Asia where Duotona shared their honey production to their neighbours. The oldest company in Duotona, Company Nectar, was established during this period in 1347AD. Book publishing is a relatively new market, as younger people get more interested in reading books, and medical care has grown as the health industry needs to meet demands of Duotona's free healthcare system which was implamented in 2010.

The culture surrounding the islands is a mixture of French and South East Asian cultures. Due to some of the Asian nations being French colonies (like Vietnam and Laos), the ratio of French to Asian cultures is disproportionately in favour of French. For example, the link to French culture was the main reason that cheese manufacturing because such a booming industry in the country as of recent. Cheeses produced in Duotona are known to have quite a mature and strong taste, which divides many people who try it. Despite this, it has become a staple of the food that is available in Duotona, often being included in many common sandwiches and other dishes eaten in the country.

Festivals and public holidays are common in Duotona, with the majority being the same as western cultures (e.g. Christmas, Halloween, Easter ect) but some are unique to the islands. The nation does celebrate the French national day of Bastille Day on July 14th as a sign of unity between the two nations, and also St Patrick's Day was also recently accepted as a public holiday as a tribute to the large Irish population of Duotona. There exists four seasonal festivals each year which occur over 5 days each, linked to the national religion of Mammalicism. Each is supposed to celebrate life that is native to each of the 4 seasons, each holding festivities that relate to the season. For example, the Autumn Festival comes just after most farmers would have harvested their crops for the year, so this is around the time in which these would be sold in massive markets located in towns squares in small towns and also in larger cities. The second native Duotonan holiday is Grey Fields Day on February 11th each year. This day is a commemoration to the anniversary of the Grey Fields Incident of 1799 which was the catalyst to the Duotonan Revolution (1799-1801). This day is remembered as a day of having a voice, free speech and the struggle of the people to be heard. Festivities include the lighting of fireworks and placing flowers at the fountain outside the Hightop Palace where the final stand by the monarchy was made. The third and final Duotonan-exclusive holiday is Grief Day, falling on June 27th every year. This is the island's variation on remembrance day, which is meant to remember the losses of warfare and conflict and to applaud the current service of their military force. This day is also the anniversary of the ascension of Luka Milson to power in 1970, which would see a dark age descend upon the nation. Every midday on this day, a minute silence is held nationwide which despite not being written in law, it is seen as immoral to refuse the silence and be disorderly when it happens.

Sport is also quite prominent in Duotonan culture, with the main two being cricket and motorsports. Cricket was adopted from Asian notice in the sport, especially from the Indian Subcontinent. Established in 1935, the Duotonan Cricket Association (or the DCA, for short) became the governing body for the sport, establishing a league system more comparable to that of association football, where teams can be relegated and promoted depending on where they finish in a points system. Each team in a league of sixteen will play each other twice, once at their own stadium and once at their opponent's stadium, with 3 points awarded for winning a match overall, and one for losing. The sport reached its peak in the 1960's, with an estimated 20% of all people on the island at the time watching the season-deciding match between Salket Hunters and South City Swingers.

The other major sport in the country is motorsports, specifically open-wheel racing like Formula 1 and their own continental league, Oceania Premier. Held over 20 races between March and October, the sport features teams and drivers exclusively from nations and territories in the continent, with Duotona being a solid upper mid-table team for most of its inclusion in the sport. The sole Duotonan owned team in the series is Stingermoto, joining the series in 1987, separate from the dictatorship in Duotona at the time. The team and their long list of drivers are known for their ability to keep competitors under pressure and ability to make impressive comebacks on some occasions. The sport has grown in popularity ever since the mid 90's, and overtook cricket as the most popular sport in terms of television and streaming ratings in 2004.

A Duotonan plane wreck is removed after a failed supply drop, which killed the pilot and 12 civilians, March 2015

Duotona's current armed forces are comparatively small compared to their involvement in World War 2. They currently hold 32,000 active duty soldiers with 100,000 in reserve. The active number used to be as high as 100,000, yet fell significantly after mandatory conscription was repealed in October of 2021. The armed forces are split into three catagories: army, air force and navy. The armed forces are most concerned with ground missions and combat on foot, the air force are involved in the use of planes and bombings when necessary and the navy are in control of missions requiring the usage of boats or anything that travels the water. They also have a spy network, but little is known about it due to the government wanting the information contained within it to be confidential. Their budget as of recent has been cut slightly, as their is less of a need for the military at the moment, as Duotona has not needed to fight a war since 2005, when NATO deposed Luka Milson.

Armed Forces
The Duotonan Ground and Army Sub-Section deals exclusively in armed combat that takes place on foot, which can either mean invasions, hostage situations in some circumstances, assistance in spy missions and other internal missions requiring an excessive amount of force. This comprises of infantry divisions, artillery, tanks and motorised units. Most infantry in this unit still use the DSA35 which was introduced back in World War 2, although it is mostly now variants such as the DSA35-R and DSA35-XR, which improve reliability and make the gun more optimal for attachments and usage in cooler climates. The gun bares a similarity to the Belgian P90, but the DSA35 holds less rounds but is much lighter in comparison. The tanks used vary, but most are imports from the United States as making them locally has been described by military personnel as "daunting".

Air Force
The Aerial Division of the military is the smallest of all 3, as the need for an air force is limited. This division's job is to deal with missions that involve planes and any other aircraft like helicopters and drones. This division's most notable and significant job has been to supply aid to the civilian population of war-torn countries, such as Syria and Afghanistan. The air force is also the most controversial side of the military, as there have been many cases in which pilots went against orders to try to get aid to people who were impossible to save. This has led to what international communities have deemed as "unnecessary casualties, either to civilians, soldiers, or both".

Naval Division
The Naval Division is the largest subdivision of the Duotonan military, encompassing an estimated 51% of all active personnel. This division, which not only engages in combat with other ships, but also wide the air force with the delivery of resources and also wide in landings for invasions, if necessary. The most notable of the campaigns led by the navy was the 1944-45 Island March campaign, in which Duotonan troops worked alongside troops from the United States and Australia to push back the Japanese out of the Pacific. This mission is often regarded as the military's finest achievement, despite the fact that most decisions were unprepared for and most decisions were made at a moment's notice by higher ups.
