The Dude Abides of I 5 is a massive, efficient nation, ruled by Eisenhower with an even hand, and remarkable for its ritual sacrifices, smutty television, and keen interest in outer space. The hard-nosed, devout population of 4.339 billion Highwaymen have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The large, corrupt government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Industry, and Law & Order. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Sacramento. The average income tax rate is 59.1%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The frighteningly efficient Roadworthy economy, worth 441 trillion tolls a year, is quite specialized and led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, with significant contributions from Information Technology, Uranium Mining, and Woodchip Exports. Black market activity is extensive. State-owned companies are common. Average income is an impressive 101,729 tolls, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 2.0 times as much as the poorest.

The old neighbourhood isn't how most Highwaymen remember it, there are no more heroes any more, it is customary to begin the summer with a fasting ritual in which people eat nothing but kumquat smoothies, and the government says that Possession is nine-tenths of the Lore. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. I 5's national animal is the Suburban, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its national religion is Constructionist.

I 5 is ranked 13,979th in the world and 2nd in California for Largest Black Market, with 51.1 trillion Standard Monetary Units.
