Sultan Suleyman IV., the Great Old Man

Statesman, Ghazi, gifted musician. Sultan Suleyman, Allah rest his soul, is seen as one of the greatest Sultans the Empire ever had, remembered for leading the Empire through the troublesome time of the first world war and the arab revolt in the 1920s, and for the succesful reconquest of Egypt in the Anglo-Hamidi war of 1940-'41. He is remembered as the great military statesman that he was, but even more his fame stems from the "national renewal effort" that was started in 1910 and went on with frequent interruptions (wars) until his death in 1944.
