Vasya Nikolayeva, also known as Igolka ("Needle"), is the de-facto leader of the land unofficially called Gryaz. She is a rebellious girl who hates rules and takes risks often.
Her parents were always rather neglectful of her and only provided her with basic necessities, causing her to feel lonely as a child.
Once when she was 7 years old, Vasya got lost for several days and came home to find out that her parents and teachers had assumed she was dead, furthering her lack of trust in them.
These feelings of loneliness and distrust eventually led to Vasya falling in with the wrong crowd by becoming infatuated and running away with Dozhdik, a 20-year-old gopnik, and joining the gang he was a part of.
