The Trees of Green Bower is a massive, cultured nation, ruled by John Muir's head with a fair hand, and remarkable for its rum-swilling pirates, unlimited-speed roads, and state-planned economy. The compassionate, democratic, cheerful population of 3.258 billion Trees hold their civil and political rights very dear, although the wealthy and those in business tend to be viewed with suspicion.

The enormous, liberal, outspoken government juggles the competing demands of Education, Administration, and Environment. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Treefort. The average income tax rate is 90.6%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The all-consuming a Tree economy, worth 415 trillion chloroplasts a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a large, well-organized, quite specialized black market in Information Technology, Soda Sales, Book Publishing, and Trout Farming. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is an impressive 127,469 chloroplasts, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

There's never enough space in space, crossword puzzles have been co-opted as a symbol of racial discrimination, religious turf wars have caused frustrated police to pray for divine intervention, and things are looking up for patients accidentally prescribed erectile dysfunction medication. Crime, especially youth-related, is a serious problem, perhaps because of the country's complete lack of prisons. Green Bower's national animal is the little fuzzy critter, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its national religion is Secular Humanism.

Green Bower is ranked 213,122nd in the world and 147th in Force for Lowest Overall Tax Burden, scoring -222.31 on the Hayek Index.
