History

Summary

The Republic of Cosmicium was founded in 1938 by the Althanasic Republic as overpopulation hit the country to the point of massive starvation. Between 1938 and 1972, it was a relatively democratic (by some definitions) state. Between 1972 and 2033, Mortheus Valixor was the President of Cosmicium, bringing its military and industry to standards exceeding those on Earth. Under his tenure, Cosmicium expanded to its nearest star systems, setting up colonies there.

His deposition, partly caused by the stormtrooper accuracy of his soldiers, led to total chaos that not even the following Commune could solve. The 2035 elections, that were supposed to elect a General Secretary within days, dragged on into 2036, and 2037, and 2038, and so on. Around this time, the previously lost art of magic was discovered, awakening powerful crystals and entombed masters of magic.

Hundreds of thousands of soldiers were trained in magic in a suspiciously quick rate. The catch was, they were made to worship an unnamed "leader", who eventually turned out to be none other than the great sorceress, Jennie Caerin (we don't know her former name, but this is the name given by the general in charge of the battlemage army). She used her mind control powers, exponentially more powerful than the regular battemage's, to decisively win the election in 2039 as the new General Secretary. Cosmicium entered the period that most people remember as the worst in its history. As soon as she took power, the Commune's leaders were all executed and anyone found opposing the regime were also executed.

During her tenure, Cosmicium became a playing ground for destructive magic in which all kinds of horrific creatures were created and cities and people destroyed and rebuilt for her pleasure.

In early 2057, one battlemage successfully escaped on the Atlantus battlecruiser with Mortheus Valixor's brain, with the task of ending the reign of terror and restoring someone reasonable to Cosmicium. He conjured a massive army to invade Cosmicium from space. Soldiers were liberated from having to worship the General Secretary and rebelled against Caerin's rule. On the 1st of May 2057, Jennie Caerin was found dead with her bodyguards. That meant the end of the reign of terror, and a beginning of a new era.

Immediately. Mortheus Valixor's brain was attached onto an android body and given the task of ruling the new Cosmicium after the interregnum. He used the same magic powers that had devastated Cosmicium to rebuild it and colonize nearby star systems. With these same magic powers, battlemages were tasked with terraforming the planets into habitable ones.

Over the centuries and millennia, Cosmicium, with a mix of technology and powerful magic conquered the entire galaxy, then the observable universe, then went for even further destinations. On their way, places much like their homeland were found, like a planet that was exactly like Epsilon Tauri 4 but reversed. Technology and magic were continually advanced, every time they seemingly reached the limit, they raised the limit and went further. Even today, this race to technological singularity continues, but maybe not for long. All predictions point to Cosmicium reaching singularity in around 50,000 years, at which point they won't just have nearly the power of the gods long forgotten, they WILL become gods.

UNDER MAJOR RECONSTRUCTION

Origins (-998086 to -997943 N.A./1914 to 2057 C.E.)

The origins of Greater Cosmicium start even before 1938, when the Republic of Cosmicium was founded. By 1914, Althanasia had reached a population of over 1 billion people, pushing its agricultural system to its very limits. Famines were common, killing millions, even tens of millions of people. Althanasia attempted to keep up with its population by becoming the vanguard of many technologies, from agricultural to computational, from spaceflight to habitation, launching its first satellite with a steam-powered rocket in 1899 and colonizing both the Moon and Mars by 1910, but the limits of modern agriculture were eventually reached. The consensus was clear: Althanasia needed to expand both within Terra, to other planets, and outside the Solar System.

A massive project, exceeding the Apollo project and World War II in the effort made, to build an interstellar spaceship began in 1913, with the first plans and resource excavations done by February 1914. The onset of the Great War (World War I), in which Althanasia was involved in, halted development of the Interstellar Colonizer, and wouldn't restart until 1919. That same year, the development of the FTL drive began, in spite of efforts by the western powers to convince them that such travel was impossible. The development of the drive got to a rocky start, but slowly improved and accelerated after an experimental drive was tested and proven in 1920, and the drive was finished and installed in the Interstellar Colonizer by mid-1921.

Althanasia built a massive spaceship known as the Interstellar Colonizer between 1914 and 1928, complete with FTL drive and space for 50,000 people. The planet of Epsilon Tauri 4 (147 ly away) was discovered in 1927 to be habitable, based on its Shyrun signatures, and the Interstellar Colonizer was launched into space on the 1st of September 1929, and set off for Epsilon Tauri on the 1st of January 1930. On the 21st of July 1938, the Interstellar Colonizer landed on Epsilon Tauri. Its colonists founded the Republic of Cosmicium, and waited for more colonists. They would never come, Althanasia collapsed in 1932 from its population pressures into many small states, which were in no position to launch any more Interstellar Colonizers. Instead of the expected colonists, other groups, such as refugees from the collapsed Althanasia, people fleeing persecution in Europe, and criminals with no other path of escape, would come. By 1943, their numbers were so large they outnumbered the original colonists.

Mortheus Valixor

Mortheus Valixor was one of these refugees. He was born in May 1943 in Kaa'daran, in the northern, frostbound, German-occupied part of Althanasia. Due to rationing of basic resources, life, even for affluent families like the one Valixor belonged to, was incredibly difficult, and infant Mortheus almost died during the first year from starvation. Though Kaa'daran was already the coldest city in Althanasia, easily reaching -40°C in winter, the eruption of Mount Aserus in 1944 led to the coldest temperatures in almost 200 years, and almost forced the German army to evacuate all of Althanasia. Allied bombings only made things worse, destroying Kaa'daran in a firestorm in September 1944.

In May 1940, a group of 120 Khaazai mages joined the German army as part of the Khaazai Federation's effort to conquer Terra without sacrificing too many Khaazai lives. They were sent to invade the Empire of Eastern Althanasia, an Allied Althanasian state in June of 1940, and due to the power of Shyrun energy, did so in less than ten weeks. Around 160,000 Wehrmacht soldiers were shipped to Althanasia between 1940 and early 1942 to secure the area, as the mages helped occupy more and more territory, moving on from the east towards the north. By the end of 1943, Germany occupied a third of Althanasia and half of its population.

Even after Germany was defeated on the mainland in August 1945, the German forces in Althanasia, despite being aware of the defeat in Europe, held their positions indefinitely. Because of the massive size of Althanasia and its unusual properties, an Allied landing wouldn't have been feasible even if Operation Overlord had succeeeded, so the occupation of Althanasia continued, while both the population and the occupational army slowly forgot that there was even an occupation. Over the decades, the political situation slowly returned to normal, and the occupational army and the natives blended together as to be indistinguishable. Today, the main signs that Germany once occupied much of Althanasia can be seen in the flags of the Germany of that time occassionally being flown, and the clear cultural influences of a militarized German society on the Althanasians.

That was the last straw for the Valixors. They made a 2,000 km march west towards the last functioning Interstellar Colonizer, in the Ezlyrn Military Base. Only because of Alyon Valixor's (Mortheus' grandfather) close military connections were they able to enter the Interstellar Colonizer.

On the 1st of November 1944, the Interstellar Colonizer set off for Epsilon Tauri to colonize Cosmicium.

On its way, the spaceship suffered a lot of problems. Sometime in 1946, one of the two sections of the spaceship failed and was set on fire for at-then unknown reasons, now it is known a loose wire in the millions comprising its electrical network set off its volatile hydrogen fuel, quickly resulting in a massive fire that engulfed the entire front section of the Colonizer and killed two thirds of the population. The bridge was destroyed alongside the front section, leaving the Colonizer uncontrollable. Most of the electrical facilities were also destroyed, leaving just barely enough to power the warp drive alone. Power rationing was initiated, and the remaining spaceship was split into 24 segments, to receive power for one hour per day.

The hydroponic farms failed within a year due to lack of light, leading to severe food rationing as well. The predictions were dire: even at only 800 calories per day, the food would run out in a year. The crew killed about three quarters of what remained of the people, including four of the nine evacuating Valixors, just to have enough food to get to Epsilon Tauri, and turned their remains into food to fill the massive gap.

And finally, in mid-1949, the warp drive failed. Without a bridge to control from, the sublight engines were manually enabled from the engine rooms, getting the Colonizer just fast enough to reach Epsilon Tauri by 1951. Because any additional failures were not accounted for, the food ran out sometime in December of 1949, and the remaining population, around 2,000 people, began resorting to eating rats, insects, anything they could find. Eventually, even those were finished off, and the people either died from starvation, or resorted to cannibalism to survive. By the time the Colonizer arrived at Epsilon Tauri in July of 1951, less than 100 were left. Just as the Colonizer was ready to crash-land on Epsilon Tauri, the power system failed, having run out of deuterium, and the entire ship was left in the dark. The crash was much harder than expected, most died instantly from the G-forces at the front end of the remaining ship, and others died from their injuries, or in rubble. Eight-year old Mortheus Valixor was the only survivor. He was miraculously uninjured, and managed to walk over 300 kilometers to the nearest settlement, the village of Calbrook.

Mortheus Valixor became the only person to leave the landing ship alive and head for Cosmicium, the rest died during a massive fire, from starvation, or from the crash-landing.

While Mortheus Valixor travelled to Epsilon Tauri, the population of Cosmicium grew, from 50,000 in 1938 to 400,000 in 1951, and formed mass-scale agriculture, began mining its own resources, built its first oil wells, and many other feats of a modern colony. The cities of Valenburg and Borgsby, the two greatest cities in the history of old Cosmicium, were founded in 1950 and 1953 respectively.

Under Xaeros Argai and Jaar Almaren, who ruled between 1938-1945, and 1945-1972 respectively, a new type of direct democracy was revolutionized, based on principles that have now been lost to the Cosmician-Federation War. The population passed 1,000,000 in 1956 and 10,000,000 in 1970, and 100,000,000 in 1995.

The House of Cards (1972-2039)

When Mortheus Valixor took power in 1972, it marked a paradigm shift in the history of Cosmicium. The country would slowly lose its democratic ways, in favor of an authoritarian, militarized government. Some criticize this period for said lack of democracy, but around this time, the Ancients invaded. For this reason, most historians consider Valixor's rule during this period a necessity to preserve the country. A number of great technological achievements were made in Cosmicium, soon leading to the colonization of the entire Epsilon Tauri system, and eventually, the star systems around Epsilon Tauri. By 2033, Cosmicium wielded a massive space navy for its size, with over 300 spaceships and over 1,000,000 crew.

This period of glory was not to last though, the facade of stable government hid the fact the country was on the verge of collapse, and it would take just one strike of the match to bring the whole house of cards down. That match was lit on the 3rd of November, 2033. On that day, the Cosmician parliament discussed ending their suppression of leftist parties, in their hope that they could eventually halt the unrest boiling within the country. The plan didn't work in the slightest, within three days, numerous factions had formed. The New Cosmician Order, the Cosmician Commune, the Former Royals of Althanasia, the Anarchists, these were just the major factions. Thousands of other minor factions popped up, carving up their own territory. The Cosmician Civil War had begun.

The war started with Commune assaults in northwestern Cosmicium, on the provinces of Valenburg, Gralix and Gryxton, the FRA occupation of Teresinn province, and the formation of the self-proclaimed Northern Empire. The war lasted less than a year, but killed 30 million Cosmicians, including 20 million civilians, and ended with a costly Commune victory in September 2034.

The peace lasted less than a month, until Mortheus Valixor, supposedly killed and blown up to thousands of pieces, awakened from his grave and killed those who tried to bury him. Within a few days, he built up a zombie army of several million soldiers, and occupied the entire eastern portion of Cosmicium, except for Bradbury, which he failed to take after half a year of sieging. Only by the vast effort of the Commune was he defeated and pushed back to his grave, this time they believed, for real. The Commune faced extreme instability from the start, and only by a miracle did it survive to see the General Secretary elections of 2035.

The elections would never take place. Massive procedural flaws forced the election to be delayed almost 20 times, and a radical group within the Commune threatened to take the position of General Secretary themselves. But the worst thing to happen to Cosmicium was the introduction of Shyrun energy. Magic. The Cosmicians now had access to untold levels of destructive power, and constructive power as well. But at what cost? That was the question the high command forgot to ask when they ordered the soldiers to be trained by a shady group of powerful entities. Their true names remain unknown, but, speaking to Cosmician high command, they called themselves the "Ancients". That was the same name the Cosmicians gave them when these entities first attacked.

Not until 2039 did the Cosmicians discover the cost of the bargain. The Ancient commander of the army (disguised as a typical female Cosmician general), Zhra'atega, naming themselves "Jennie Caerin", manipulated the magical soldiers, and citizens, into turning against Cosmicium, and electing them as General Secretary. Once that happened, all hell broke loose. The manipulated soldiers destroyed much of Cosmicium, killing everyone on sight. The Cosmician interstellar colonies, which numbered 150 by 2039, also came under attack by said Ancients. Cosmicium had become a playground for the Ancients to test their magic on, simply because the Cosmician military was foolish enough to be lured into the promise of quick training of powerful magic. All sorts of abominations were made and unleashed on what little nature remained. Every volcano was erupted at once, bringing a volcanic winter. A massive earthquake cracked the entire planet. Whole cities were blown up, then rebuilt as quickly as they were destroyed. These were just a small selection of the things the Ancients did for their entertainment.

The Ancient domination of Cosmicium would not last. Though the Ancients believed all the resisting battlemages were killed, one of them, whose name has now been lost to history but who is nicknamed the Lost Savior, escaped with their fighter craft, and took a risky journey in 2057 to take Mortheus Valixor's still intact body and brain. With powerful magic, Valixor was resurrected, and his mind attached to an ASI machine to grant him untold intelligence and magical power. Valixor descended on Cosmicium to fight the Ancients with the same magic they used. Some sources claim he single-handedly killed a million Ancients with just one lightning strike.

While the identity of the Lost Savior is unknown, their outfit is somehow proudly displayed in the Mortheus Valixor Memorial Museum in Terra. Mortheus Valixor was questioned in 2397 about this, but gave nothing but a series of evasive answers and counter-questions.

The Lost Savior's face is never shown in artistic works, and as little as possible is written about them beyond what is absolutely necessary in books and articles, only due to Cosmician tradition, and not by law as often believed. When the Lost Savior needs to be depicted, they are usually written from a first person, silent perspective or as vaguely as possible. However, a statue of the Lost Savior, designed by Corwin Alvedon, who supposedly knew the Lost Savior well, exists in the Empire State Park, though the statue looks suspiciously like that of Mortheus Valixor, leading people to believe that the statue's design was copied from that of Mortheus Valixor's statue with some cosmetic modifications and a new battlemage outfit.

Then, he confronted "Jennie Caerin" in their self-made palace. "Caerin" revealed their true name, Zhra'atega, one of the seven remaining Power Protectors of the Ancients, but better known as the Sorceress to the remaining Cosmicians. The fight started soon after, lasting two hours before Valixor managed to destroy the Shyrun crystal, turning it into a massive spout of green fire that killed Zhra'atega. Without Zhra'atega's control, the Cosmician population was freed from the grasp of the Ancients, and with the guidance of Mortheus Valixor, the whole country was returned to the same state as in 2033. The Ancient armies attacking Cosmician colonies also retreated.

The Republic of Cosmicium was founded in 1938 by the Althanasic Republic as overpopulation hit the country to the point of massive starvation. UNDER MAJOR RECONSTRUCTION

Rise of the Cosmician Empire (-997943 to -996999 N.A./2057 to 3001 C.E.)

The end of the Sorceresses' reign was a shock to the Ancients, they had lost one of their seven remaining Power Protectors - the loss of Zhra'atega was particularly devastating, as they were the ones in charge of holding the Local Group not controlled by the Universal Federation under control. However, it marked a high point for the Cosmicians, finally free from the shackle of Ancient dominance. Mortheus Valixor was unanimously re-elected as the leader of the Cosmician Commune. However, a communist government was not in the mind of Valixor - he wanted the same authoritarian government he had ruled before 2034. He dismantled the Commune's democratic governance and restored the old Cosmician parliament, destroyed numerous worker's unions, eliminated much of his political opposition, and announced the restoration of the Republic of Cosmicium.

The new Republic was marked by Mortheus Valixor's nearly absolute rule and a rapid expansion of the military, growing to nearly 3 million regular soldiers by 2065, and over 5 million by 2077. Political parties were suppressed, and dissent mostly eliminated, as another major revolt would have been disastrous for the already shaken Cosmician state. By 2070, the only legal party was the Imperial National Party, best described as a sort of syncretic, social-fascist party with some socialist characteristics, and Cosmicium essentially followed its lead.

The Invasion of Terra (2130-2155)

The growth of the Cosmician military and advancements in technology led Cosmicium to become way more aggressive in the numerous wars it fought during the period, pioneering massed firepower on the ground, with even the lightest vehicles sporting the most powerful guns practically usable at their weight. In space, the Cosmicians pulled off similar things with their ever-growing spaceships, sacrificing their formerly thick and heavy armor for firepower and speed; few enemies could destroy Cosmicium's ships in engagements in equal numbers anyway, let alone whole fleets, and with Cosmicium producing more and more materials and ships than ever before, the expected higher losses could be replenished easily.

Cosmicium used this new doctrine to great effect during the conquests of the Terran colonies between 2116 and 2130, defeating a combined force of 60 million unified Terrans and 60,000 ships with just 3.2 million Cosmicians and 5,000 ships, almost annihilating the Terrans with the loss of only 120,000 Cosmicians. The high mobility provided by the power-focused design of Cosmician vehicles made swarm tactics highly effective, completely countering a new generation of extremely heavy Terran vehicles designed specifically to defeat Cosmician firepower with more armor on top of their already thick multi-layer armor.

As the advance continued towards Terra though, the Terran resistance became much tougher, their fleets retreating further and further towards Terra to hopefully protect at least their core world, gathering in the new Alpha Centauri base to prepare to repel the Cosmicians. This final battle of fleets took place on the 20th of August 2129, near Proxima Centauri. Mortheus Valixor commanded the Unbroken Fleet, consisting of Cosmicium's best ships and most elite officers, breaking through the first line of Terran ships and causing chaos within Terran command. Within the first 15 minutes, the Terran fleet fractured into several unorganized groups of ships, left without ability to communicate because of Terran chain of command organization, featuring a strict top-down command structure and absolutely nothing in the way of redundancy.

The horde of Terran ships became easy to defeat, and Terra's well-planned attempt to stop the Cosmician invasion ended with nearly all of their ships destroyed, and their defensive lines tattered and unable to stop the Cosmicians from reaching Terra. But for the Cosmicians, the conquest of Terran colonies was just the first challenge, the invasion of Terra itself would prove the hardest military operation that Cosmicium had ever performed up to that point, nearly depleting Cosmicium's manpower and demanding even direct intervention from Mortheus Valixor himself.

WIP

Towards the Galaxy (2155-3001)

The new era also marked the beginning of Cosmicium's rapid expansion. Hundreds of colony ships would be built over the next century, the newly colonized planets doubling Cosmicium's population every four years, and the fleet would grow so large that the ships had to be reclassified several times as the Space Fleet ran out of higher-level classifications. Cosmicium's highly trained admirals led the Space Fleet to victory in several wars, including the Dorvai Uprising and the Khaazai Border Wars. By 2257, Cosmicium stretched around a tenth of the galaxy.

In 2257, the Republic of Cosmicium and the Khaazai Federation entered into a brief alliance and temporarily ceased hostilities, ending the Khaazai Border Wars, after the Universal Federation, a genocidal robotic empire, attacked their border colonies. The attack was repulsed within two weeks thanks to Cosmician military tactics and the magical power of the Khaazai. After the attack, the alliance broke down when the Khaazai king, Mayrnak, accused Cosmicium of raiding Khaazai settlements (which they did). In response, the Cosmicians launched a massive false-flag operation using hired (read: captured) Khaazai soldiers. During the operation, the border planet of Vazthayl was "attacked" by a Khaazai force, and tens of thousands of civilians were supposedly killed. This was enough justification to declare war on the Khaazai Federation.

The war was brutal for both sides, the Khaazai Federation and Cosmicium being roughly equal in power, but over the next two years, Cosmicium gained the upper hand, using Khaazai magic against them, entrapping and destroying several Khaazai fleets, and even luring the Universal Federation to attack the Khaazai. By the end of the war, a third of the Khaazai were dead, including king Mayrnak and his children, but Cosmicium also suffered heavily, losing a tenth of its male population and having many planets left in ruins for decades. However, Mortheus Valixor felt no remorse for all the people killed on both sides, in fact he was reported to enjoy seeing the massive corpse piles left by the war.

On the 25th of May 2257, Mortheus Valixor was declared the Emperor of Cosmicium by the Cosmician Parliament, despite opposition from the newly subjugated Khaazai population. On that same day, the last election to ever take place for 1 million years was held, and to nobody's surprise, the Imperial National Party won all 2,200 seats with 100% of the vote, in what was an obviously rigged election. A new palace was ordered to be built, ten times larger than the Presidential Palace in Inner Cosmicium, it would be finished in 2264.

After the Sorceresses' reign ended, Mortheus Valixor once again became the president of Cosmicium. He decided that the reason for Valixor's overthrow and the power of the Sorceress was the mere existence of strong magic, and ordered it temporarily banned until it could be stabilized and the power of the Ancients could be weakened. Greater Cosmicium began building FTL ships in mass quantities and colonized thousands of planets, ensuring an excellent living standard for all Cosmicians. In 2257, the Imperial Palace was built, and Mortheus Valixor was crowned the first Emperor of Cosmicium.

This was a threat to the nearby Khaazai Federation (note: Khaazai and humans are descended from the same species), which used powerful magical powers and was very successful in halting the Universal Federation's advance. Cosmicium and the Khaazai Federation made a brief alliance, which collapsed when the High King of the Khaazai, Mayrnak, attacked Epsilon Tauri, resulting in Cosmicium immediately declaring war. In less than two years, the Khaazai Federation's forces were destroyed by Terrain Controllers and now-lost anti-magical weapons. To prevent the Cosmicians from using their most powerful weapons, all Shyrun energy sources were destroyed or moved out of Cosmician forces' range. The victory was decisive: 900 quintillion Khaazai (that's 97% of the population) killed, most of their high command killed, the High King, who had ruled for 15,000 years, and his three thousand children killed, and 999 out of every 1000 ships destroyed. It would take many millennia to recover from the Cosmician invasion.

After the Khaazai invasion, Cosmicium integrated many smaller low and high tech states not subdued by the Universal Federation, growing its power to almost a quarter of the Milky Way galaxy, and improved its defenses against the Universal Federation to a seemingly unstoppable level. The Universal Federation launched several small-scale invasions to attempt to weaken Cosmicium, all unsuccessful.

In the first 1,000 years of Cosmicium's existence, many great achievements were made and Cosmicium became a galactic power. In 3001 C.E. though, the Universal Federation declared war on Cosmicium to forcefully integrate it into the Federation, like it did with all other countries. Unfortunately for them, Cosmicium would become their grave...

The Universal Federation-Cosmicium War, (-996999 to -17670 N.A./3001 to 982330 C.E.)

Mortheus Valixor was informed of the declaration of war by the Universal Federation on the 27th of April, 3001 C.E. He ordered all fleets to take a defensive position and place defenses on all planets near the Federation's borders. The ongoing development of the EMP Swarm, Cosmicium's first great superweapon was fast-tracked to suppress the Federation's spaceships. Upon release, the EMP Swarm proved deadly against the Federation's biggest spaceships, which were later captured by the Cosmician Space Fleet and reused against the Federation. Cosmicium began capturing stars and planets by the thousands, limited only by the speed of their FTL drives and later their available manpower. It is estimated the Federation sent at least 400 quadrillion ships to attempt to defeat Cosmicium, but they proved ineffective after being zapped by EMP swarms.

In 5370 C.E., the Federation lost its last holdings in the Milky Way galaxy and pulled back the few ships not yet destroyed by EMPs. Most of the 400 quadrillion ships sent were captured, and the rest disassembled for research into faster FTL drives and more powerful weapons.

The Magellanic Clouds were both captured in 6058 C.E. and used as supply bases for the planned invasion of Andromeda, the Federation's HQ for the Laniakea strategic zone.

After capturing several more galaxies, Cosmicium finally researched an FTL drive in 8189 C.E. with a range of 20 million light years, enough to comfortably invade Andromeda and other galaxies in the Local Group. The invasion was fully planned out in 8204 C.E. and started the same year. The EMP swarms helped here too, and the hundreds of millions of captured ships rapidly defeated the Federation's forces there. The Federation retreated to N'Rizor, their core system for Andromeda, where their super-fortress held out for almost 50 years. Finally, in 11070 C.E, N'Rizor fell to an overwhelming Cosmician invasion force.

The next millennia would be millennia of a stagnant war, with Cosmicium slowly gaining territories and researching increasingly powerful weaponry to further counter the Federation's forces. The M9001 and M31337 were creations during this period. During this time, Cosmicium's research efforts were mostly set on researching on an even faster FTL drive, and a secret project that would become the war-winner against the Federation.

Shortly after the conquest of Laniakea Supercluster, in 15014 C.E. Mortheus Valixor was declared the Liberator of the Universe by the Federation's oppressed races, a title last held 20 million years ago by the mythical Yellow Emperor, who liberated the known universe from the Ancients.

After Laniakea, Valixor's goals set on not just defending against the Federation, but to completely annihilate it from existence and free all remaining races not yet exterminated by the Federation. Cosmicium spent 2,000 years building enough ships with the new drive to reasonably invade the Great Wall, a mega-formation 20 million light years in size housing a septillion (1024) people, and the main base of the Federation in the known universe. 100 trillion ships, manned by 1 quintillion crew left their spaceports to attack the Great Wall, destroying key objects to weaken the Federation's power in the known universe. Slowly, over 10,000 years, the Great Wall was greatly weakened, but not destroyed, until one ship reached the Great Wall's core. According to legend, it took only two shots to the Great Wall's core to destroy it completely in an instant.

In -13985 N.A./986015 C.E., the Universal Federation unveiled its superweapon that would supposedly destroy Greater Cosmicium to its core. They were hardly subtle in using them, causing major defeats near strategic positions for Greater Cosmicium and almost ending the war in favor of the Federation. Then, in one moment, all of Cosmicium's people, machines, spaceships, infrastructure, and everything usable gained a sudden boost in power. This seemingly magical miracle would be called by future Cosmicians "The First Awakening".

The First Awakening (-13985 to -7460 N.A./986015 to 992540 C.E.)

In 986014 C.E., Kavran, an Ice Dragon from Polaris, replaced Iram Jarlson, who was killed by a Federation assault, as the Fleet Marshal of the Cosmician Space Fleet. Being an Ice Dragon and not a Human or Khaazai, he was certainly an unusual candidate, but with 100% of the votes from the Imperial Senate, the choice was clearer than a flawless diamond. Kavran had a background as Chief Engineer of Project 149, later known as the Dimensional Disruptor, a space-time altering weapon that would give Cosmician forces a major strategic advantage. In addition, he worked on streamlining machinery and using portals to further speed up production. The immediate effects were obvious, leading to a 1,000 fold increase in production by just doing some simple streamlining. Further improvements led to the building of thousands, even millions of times more ships than the Federation could reasonably destroy.

Kavran also worked on standardizing the Space Fleet, reducing the 68 categories and 3,047 types of ships into just five categories and 16 types of ships and making all ships multi-purpose. To say that this led to a great reduction in the burden on the Cosmician economy is a galaxy-sized understatement. The standardization of ships also allowed ships to have firepower way above their weight, without the load of specialization placed on them.

With increased production, Kavran made power armor and plasma weapons the standard for all soldiers (before they used regular armor and gunpowder weapons), not just elite soldiers, increasing the capability of the Cosmician army greatly. New tanks were also outfitted with better armor and plasma guns, and were standardized in the same way that ships were. The power of Greater Cosmicium increased vastly, and began pushing back against the Federation's superweapons, destroying them one by one. The Federation's forces were reduced to a fraction of their former power, almost leading to a civil war when their robotic leader was destroyed by friendly fire (one Federation fighter ricocheted a shot into the Leader, destroying them immediately).

The First Awakening ended in 992,540 C.E. after Cosmicium suffered a major defeat in Ghirkam. In the battle, a massive army and fleet of 726 quintillion soldiers and crew were attacked by the Order of Two's forces. The Cosmicians had believed the Order of Two had been annihilated during the battle of Xaglon, only to be ambushed by a remaining group of roughly 10 quintillion Federation soldiers and roughly 1 quadrillion ships. The Federation used magic suppressors to great effect, nullifying the Khaazai forces and completely destroying them, then attacked in the newly created weak spots the Cosmician Empire's fleet, then the remainder of the fleets. For four and a half hours, the people of Ghirkam were tortured to show the Federation's power, right before one of their Deathspheres destroyed the whole planet. 698 of 726 quintillion crew were killed, and the remaining portion forced to retreat almost 10,000 ly from the front.

This ended their seemingly unstoppable advance and led to a stagnant front. 99.96% of the casualties (6x1041 by 1054994) in the war happened not during the first phase of the war, but the battles after the First Awakening and before the Second. Greater Cosmicium's population was decimated, leading to greater use of robotic soldiers to fight the war. This ensuing trench war led to major changes in Cosmician strategy and would greatly influence its defensive doctrine.

Beginning of the New Age (-7640 to 54994 N.A./992540 to 1054994 C.E.)

The frontline in the Cosmician-Federation after Ghirkam was what can only be considered a nightmare of nightmares. Trillions of men, women and children were sent in desperation to the frontline, only helping to increase the Cosmician death toll by throwing them into the robotic Federation meat-grinder. Once habitable planets became wastelands, filled with destroyed equipment, ships, tanks, artillery, and literal mountains of people and robots. Some commanders tried to advance the frontline even one inch by zapping the Federation's countless robots, but to no avail, for the Federation would just replace its lost trillion robots with another trillion. Poison gases filled the atmosphere, causing untold pain and suffering, and leaving the planets uninhabitable forever.

The sound and heat of decillions of shells fired in a second filled the space frontline, just as horrific as the one on land. The crew died in all sorts of horrible ways, burned, frozen, cut to a thousand pieces, sawed in half by the Federation's chainsaw robots, scalded by acid weapons, eaten alive by robotic bees, and many more, much more terrible ways. The Universal Federation eventually caught up to Greater Cosmicium's increased production and matched it, ending the long-expected Cosmician advance. With the population completely decimated, Greater Cosmicium eventually ran out of manpower, began retreating back to its defensive lines and began extensively using robots, for collateral damage meant nothing anymore.

In a last ditch attempt to stop the Federation's advance, Mortheus Valixor ordered all planets and stars 500,000 light years or less from the frontline to be destroyed. The attempt was successful, leaving the Federation unable to reach Cosmician forces. In 1054980, a Dimensional Disruptor prototype was tested, to great success. The Cosmician Space Fleet was able to destroy much of the Federation's fleets, and the advance started again, leading to a great reduction in casualties. By 1054994, Greater Cosmicium had fully recovered. That same time, something happened. Something happened... that led to the Second Awakening.

The Second Awakening (54994 to 57960 N.A./1054994 to 1057960 C.E.)

TLDR: After the reforms instated by Kavran failed to defeat the Universal Federation, Mortheus Valixor took direct control of the production and research in Greater Cosmicium. He ordered much of the production to be devoted to prototype Dimensional Disruptors, which let Cosmician fleets infiltrate and destroy the main Federation bases of operation and destroy their practically infinite robotic forces. The Universal Federation's last fortresses were defeated in 1055001, marking the end of the Cosmician-Federation War. Cosmicium's population boomed after the victory over the Federation.

The Great Cosmician Rebellion (57960 to 72897 N.A./1057960 to 1072897 C.E.)

WIP

The Third Awakening (72897 N.A. to 72917 N.A./1072897 C.E. to 1072917 C.E.)

The Great Cosmician Rebellion was incredibly costly for Greater Cosmicium. 1044 lives were lost during the war, most of them during the final 1,000 years of the Rebellion. The Scorpion and Dragon areas, the areas that rebelled, were especially affected, but the rest of the country suffered as well, the population dropping by over 99.8%. To have a hope of recovery, the rebuilding plan would have to be very radical, very quick and completely overlook the additional loss of life that would result.

As a reward for their great service during the Rebellion, many loyal leaders, Senators, generals and admirals were given Silver Eagle Cross with Golden Wreath and Red Star, the highest Cosmician award that could be given. The Head Senator, Kasren Vereyn, was not one of these people, the policies he enacted during the war nearly caused a rebellion in itself. Instead, a horde of people descended on the Palace, demanding his execution, and the Imperial Senate performed an emergency meeting to pass legislation that would allow them to bypass the normal removal process. In his defense, Kasren Vereyn made an expletive-filled, four-hour speech. Not a single Senator wasn't scalded by the Head Senator and not one institution got away unnoticed, in what would become the speech of the millennia.

The Great Political Crisis (72917 N.A. to present/1072917 C.E. to present)

On the 1st of May 1072917, Mortheus Valixor, the Emperor of Greater Cosmicium, was dying. Supernovae were destroying the AI planets that gave Mortheus Valixor the ability to achieve near-omnipotence. The supernova could be seen even in the brightest days from over 100 million light years away. Shortly after, before his body could fall to the ground, it died as well with him. Greater Cosmicium was now left without an Emperor, and no heir to replace Mortheus Valixor.

Many, both from and outside the Senate, declared their claim to become the next Emperor. The claims of some were backed often by several fleets, more than enough to occupy Epsilon Tauri and put themselves on the throne. But unexpectedly, Kasren Vereyn, the Head Senator of the Imperial Senate, took the throne first. He backed his claim on the Cosmician constitution, which stated that the Head Senator would become the Emperor if there was no heir. The Senators refused to recognize his claim, or his position as Emperor. They and the military forces formed several factions, the most prominent being the Human, Khaazai, Dragon and Nuironi factions. Greater Cosmicium never came closer to civil war before than during the crisis, nor did it ever become so unstable before this.

Every word Emperor Kasren said to quell the unrest only made things worse, only made the factions stronger, and only weakened the Emperor's position. Eventually, with no other viable option left, Kasren Vereyn put a major reform that would change Cosmician politics forever. The Imperial Senate would be heavily empowered, and instead of being appointed by the Emperor and their advisors, would be elected through proportional distribution. The position of Emperor would also become an elected position, limited to a single term of 10 years. The Khaazai fiercely opposed the term limits for the position of Emperor. Capable of living thousands of years, the Khaazai preferred an unlimited number of terms instead, so their elected leaders could rule for what they deemed a proper length of time.

Despite Khaazai opposition, the law was passed nearly unanimously, and almost suddenly, the factions that nearly led Greater Cosmicium to civil war all disappeared. The country was restored to stability, and Emperor Kasren could focus on passing other, less radical reforms.

Over the next two months, Greater Cosmicium slowly stabilized and returned to prosperity. Emperor Kasren regained control of the country, creating a foundation for which to build the Cosmicium of the future.

The Imperial Senate elections took place on July 27, 1072917. In the election, the Communists won 61.5% of the vote, a decisive victory over the ISC's 30.1%. With Communist rule came a new Head Senator, Naevora Xelden. The previous Head Senator, Daaren Daarenson, committed suicide on the 29th of July, together with 37 other ISC Senators. This unexpected victory shook the foundations that had just been created, and weakened Emperor Kasren's power. Rumors of Kasren Vereyn's near-death and a fight after a failed vote to reduce the number of Senate seats further destabilized the government. Historians call this period the Cosmician Crisis

Despite the violence they were the cause of, the Communists continued to gain ground, and won the elections for the next Emperor on the 27th of August. Soon, the Cosmician Political Crisis really took hold. Kasren Vereyn refused to recognize Jaclyn Merrex's electoral victory and stubbornly refused to resign, and Naevora Xelden exploited the power vacuum to attempt to declare himself Emperor. Within a handful of days, the Imperial Senate and the Palace of the Cosmicians were sieged by Jaclyn Merrex's army, but despite the siege, the government organs there continued to work normally. On the 2nd of September, Merrex's army stormed and destroyed the Imperial Senate, killing over 90,000 and seriously injuring the Head Senator, and on the 4th, the same thing was done to the Palace of the Cosmicians. The Imperial Senate continued meeting in the Bloomfield Stadium, while Kasren Vereyn continued to rule from the Red Palace in Nyr-Khol.

Government officials began running to everywhere else in Greater Cosmicium to avoid more potential bloodshed, leaving more holes in the Cosmician government, and more and more buildings ended up being attacked. Assassination attempts on Kasren Vereyn caused them to panic even more, even as Jaclyn Merrex declared that Emperor Kasren's life was to be spared. As soon as assassins began directly threatening the Emperor, everyone discovered what Merrex's declaration was - a lure to safely kill Emperor Kasren. The most famous attempt happened on the 14th of September, when an assassin, presumed to be working for Jaclyn Merrex, attempted to kill Kasren Vereyn by pouring strychnine into his glass of ghaner, only narrowly stopped by a guard.

In spite of the crisis, Kasren Vereyn continued to rule from the Red Palace, though seriously challenged in power by Jaclyn Merrex, who had already formed her own Imperial Senate, Supreme Court, and military. The Cosmician Crisis would further deepen when interdimensional portals started pulling in people like a black hole, countless trillions would fall victim to this event. This included the two disputed Emperors and their Head Senators: Emperors Kasren Vereyn and Jaclyn Merrex and Head Senators Naevora Xelden and Corinthia Faldor. While Merrex, Xelden and Faldor have returned safely, Kasren Vereyn would be involved in the Automated Personifier malfunction. His current whereabouts are unknown, but if rumors are to be believed, he is no longer Kasren Vereyn anymore...

On the 15th of March 1072918, all questions to what happened to Kasren Vereyn were answered, when Cosmicium News released its report. According to the report, Kasren's presence in the Automated Personfier room led him to undergo major, unpredictable changes. The report claims that in the wake of the changes, the Emperor is now living under the identity of Corinne (Avery) Vereyn, though the original form of the Emperor also exists, and when the two entities make eye contact, they reportedly freeze in place.

Corinne Vereyn vs Cally Valixor vs Jaclyn Merrex foreshadowing

Future: An Empire without an Emperor

Although Greater Cosmicium remains by far the most powerful country in its dimension, not all is well for it. The country has become so dependent on a strong and nearly omnipotent emperor ruling that no biological person could possibly replace Mortheus Valixor when he died, which is what happened in 1072917. Without a heir designated by Valixor, a sign of his ever-increasing belief that nothing could destroy him, the country is close to entering a state of total chaos. In Valixor's absence, the Imperial Senate has taken control under Kasren Vereyn, but his power over the greater Empire is virtually nonexistent greatly blunted, with the bulk of the power existing in four factions, the Human, Khaazai, Dragon and Nuironi factions. with much of the power seized by his elected rival, Jaclyn Merrex. If the tensions keep spiraling out of control, it is not unthinkable Greater Cosmicium could enter a civil war and essentially cease existing outside of the Core Region.

Future: Power to Greater Cosmicium!

But even without the succession crisis, over the last 1 million years, over 99% of the planets and stars in its territory have been completely mined to nonexistence for increasing numbers of resources, most in the last 10,000 years, yet despite that, Greater Cosmicium still suffers from chronic shortages of essential resources like hydrogen or deuterium, required to power Greater Cosmicium's power plants and matter generators. Dyson spheres are increasingly being built as a replacement, but the number of stars available for encasing with a Dyson sphere are rapidly dwindling as Greater Cosmicium's population booms to almost 500 decillion people, and the problem of powering its countless spaceships remains unsolved.

Mining planets and its stars outside its influence sphere and in other dimensions is being considered, but fears are that not even a thousand dimensions mined whole could provide for Greater Cosmicium's resource shortages over the next one hundred years. Others have proposed harnessing vacuum energy, with a potential of over 10100 joules per cubic meter, but technology to do so is still under research, some spaceships have already been outfitted with experimental zero-point energy drives that have so far proven reliable in producing power. Still others have considered putting Dyson spheres or similar power-generating megastructures on quasars and other powerful power sources, and this is being done on some objects, but too slowly to make a difference. Overall, Greater Cosmicium is expected to suffer ever more severe power outages and more severe rationing of resources over the next few decades as power production peaks at its limits, though the advances in zero-point energy and the resulting ability to generate matter from pure energy may stave off this crisis.

Future: Feeding a Starving Population

Even food is becoming a major problem, because feeding 480 decillion people is not an easy task with only 1.6 septillion planets to feed them, and only a fraction optimal for feeding them. Currently, around 100 sextillion (1023) planets are being used to feed all the people of Greater Cosmicium. More and more levels are being added to feed the increasing population and keep a stockpile in case of trouble. For now, with the average food-producing planet having 1,600 levels, Greater Cosmicium produces far more than it needs, producing 1.224x1039 tonnes in 1072915, but with shortages of energy on the horizon, this will almost certainly change for the worse, potentially leading to mass famine and the deaths of uncountable amounts of people over the next century.

Future: The Inevitable Result

Everything considered, though Greater Cosmicium's leaders still claim they can reach godhood before collapsing, within just a century, a moment compared to the 1 million years it has existed, Greater Cosmicium is headed for a rapid collapse and eventual breakup, possibly a brutal civil war before its final collapse, like what happened to the Yellow Emperor's empire, the Ancients, and the Universal Federation before it, restarting the cycle all over again.

The atmospheric pressure is 101,325 Pa (1.00 atm), and the atmospheric composition is 78.09% nitrogen, 20.95% oxygen, 0.92% argon, 0.08% carbon dioxide and small amounts of other gases. The planet has native simple, complex and sapient life, and it has a variety of climates. The planet has only trace amounts of air pollution, and radiation levels are normal at an average of 0.06 µSv/h.

Until 1927, Terra was the only planet known to humans to harbor life, until Epsilon Tauri 4 was discovered by the Shyrun signatures it emitted (as well as Nyr-Khol in 1934).

Epsilon Tauri

The planet of Epsilon Tauri is a medium-sized planet with a nitrogen-oxygen atmosphere. Epsilon Tauri has a diameter of 12,016 km, a mass of 5.33x1024 kg, a rotational period of 21.57 hours, and rotates around Epsilon Tauri in 335.96 days.

On the surface, Epsilon Tauri is covered in 76% of its area by water, and 24% by land. The average temperature is 14°C. The atmospheric pressure is 106,950 Pa (1.05 atm), and the atmospheric composition is 71.55% nitrogen, 27.60% oxygen, 0.75% argon, 0.05% carbon dioxide and small amounts of other gases. The planet has native simple, complex and sapient life, and it has a variety of climates. The planet has minor air pollution, and radiation levels are normal at an average of 0.1 µSv/h.

Epsilon Tauri was the first extraterrestrial planet discovered to have life.

Nyr-Khol

More information: Geography of Nyr-Khol

The planet of Nyr-Khol is a medium-sized planet with a nitrogen-oxygen atmosphere. Nyr-Khol has a diameter of 13,250 km, a mass of 6.84x1024 kg, a rotational period of 25.30 hours, and rotates around Haly-Khol in 378.40 days

On the surface, Nyr-Khol is covered in 35% of its area by water (was 68% in 3001), 53% by land, and 12% by mixtures of liquid and solid industrial waste. The average temperature is 24°C. The planet is bereft of non-sapient life due to its extreme air pollution (so high that massive pollution storms appear, killing all complex life outside in seconds), and severe levels of radiation (56 mSv/h in some areas), other than that protected in the Dandelion District. Most of Nyr-Khol is a barren wasteland, except for the Dandelion District.

Nyr-Khol is the home of the Khaazai, and they worship the planet like another god. The severe pollution afflicting the planet has become a marker of shame for them, a sign of failure and the end times. A new, artificial Nyr-Khol is being constructed on the other side of Haly-Khol, based on magical imprints left behind from Nyr-Khol's distant past, and accurate down to the smallest grain of sand and the smallest pebble, in the same way it was in 3001, before massive pollution ravaged the planet.

Simulated Worlds

The Cosmicians have always been averse to making simulated worlds, for fear that a simulated uprising could have real-world consequences, and the size of the computers needed when working under constrictions of vacuum tubes. However, scavenged integrated circuits and quantum computers have always been readily available, and a few simulated worlds have been made before 1072917. The most famous one of these is Paradise-World, developed in 2041 by Terran developer NomaWorks, with over 20 billion simulated players in 2114, and over 180 sextillion (1.8x1023) in 1072917. With the advent of integrated circuits, the number of simulated worlds have skyrocketed, from around 100 in 1072914 to more than 350 trillion in July of 1072917, with a total population of 27 octillion (2.7x1028) simulated people.

Politics

Quick Summary

Greater Cosmicium most closely resembles an elective monarchy, with an (ostensibly ceremonial) Emperor elected to serve for a single term of 10 years, whose main role is to strengthen Greater Cosmicium's image among the multiverse, but who in reality still holds semi-absolute power over the country, a Head Senator, who is the highest-ranked member of the Imperial Senate and the final decider when it comes to legislation that comes from the Senate, an Imperial Senate with 15,000 seats, responsible for passing laws that affect the entirety of Greater Cosmicium, and several self-governing legislatures for each of the states, which are responsible for controlling the economic and military affairs of the states.

Current Leaders

The current Emperor of Greater Cosmicium is Kasren Vereyn, disputed with Jaclyn Merrex since 28 August 1072917, succeeding Mortheus Valixor as Emperor after his death. The current Head Senator is Naevora Xelden, since 1 August 1072917.

See the Khaazai Great Council for the Khaazai legislature, the Galactic Parliament for the Cosmician Empire's legislature, and the Scorpion Senate for the Scorpion Republic's legislature.

The Imperial Senate's and the Emperor's Relations

Whenever a major, inter-imperial issue has to be debated, the Emperor calls on the Imperial Senate, consisting of 15,000 members.
Generally however, the Emperor doesn't submit to the Senate (insert I AM THE SENATE! jokes here), and rules his empire with an iron fist.
As Mortheus Valixor's nearly unlimited rule has come to an end, and to reduce Greater Cosmicium's dependence on a powerful emperor, Kasren Vereyn has promised distributing more power to the now democratically elected Senate, and making the Emperor more of a ceremonial figurehead responsible for propping up Greater Cosmicium's image among the multiversal community.

Elections and Political Parties

There were no elections between 2257, when Mortheus Valixor was elected Emperor in a rigged vote where he was the only candidate, nor Senate elections since 2256 when the far-right Imperial National Party, headed by Mortheus Valixor took all 1,601 seats and 99% of the votes, and 1072917.

The last Imperial Senate election took place on July 27, 1072917, while the elections for Emperor are scheduled for August 28, 1072917. Imperial Senate members will be elected by proportional representation, while the Emperor will be elected by a two-round vote and will be limited to a single term of 10 years. The term limits for the Emperor have often been criticized, especially by the long-living Khaazai, who continue to demand an unlimited number of terms for the Emperor.

Until 1072917, there were no political parties, with all Imperial Senate members belonging to the Emperor's political bloc. This political bloc has been described by outside observers as belonging to no one ideology, being politically and economically very authoritarian, and in some things, socially liberal, and in others, conservative. They staunchly support the state-capitalist economic system that has existed in Greater Cosmicium for over a million years. With the elections of 1072917, there are now three major political parties, the Communist Party of Cosmicium (Marxism-Leninism, far-left, leader Naevora Xelden), Imperial Security Coalition (moderate Valixor cult, syncretic, leader Kasren Vereyn) and the Scorpion Party (libertarian, center to center-right, leader Draahak), and almost 200 minor ones.

People's Politics

This part is based on information from the 1072917 Analysis of Popular Political Views, encompassing 720 quintillion people from 188 quadrillion planets. The statistics may not reflect actual political situation. Because of the changing situation, being made before the Senate elections, this part may be obsolete.

Until Mortheus Valixor's death, a massive political cult centered around him was dominant in Greater Cosmicium, or at least the Human regions of Greater Cosmicium. The cult's ideology consisted of a totalitarian government ruled by an absolute, hereditary Emperor, whose word was more powerful than any lesser ruling body and as powerful as that of the gods beyond, puppet states for the major races of Greater Cosmicium to give the illusion of power, suppression of differing political ideologies, a state-capitalist economic system, and conversely, relatively liberal civil rights.

With his death, the political cult's power has collapsed, and the ideological schisms hidden for so long have finally revealed themselves. The ideologies hidden by Valixor's political cult ended up being just as radical as the cult itself. In the days following Valixor's death, the People's Intergalactic Commune of Cosmicium, a Marxist-Leninist political union, became the most powerful movement in the Human and Khaazai parts of Greater Cosmicium.

Many state-owned companies have been seized by irate workers who, due to increasing political instability, were not paid for several months. The militia units meant to suppress them have also defected by the trillions to the Commune, further exacerbating the political situation and further destabilizing the country. The Cosmician Army has promised that the Commune will be controlled and its most radical elements will be removed, but if their promises come true is unknown. The equally radical New Cosmician Order is opposed to the Commune, following an ultra-fascist ideology, committed to the genocide of other races and an even more totalitarian and absolute rule of the Emperor.

Revolts in major planets such as Terra and the capital, Epsilon Tauri have resulted in large amounts of scarce resources spent to fight them and billions of deaths. Once the Cosmician Civil War begins (the question is when, not if) these ideological schisms will mean an even higher death toll in the ensuing war between the states of former Greater Cosmicium.

The only state not under radical political unrest is the Scorpion Republic. The Scorpions hold firmly to their system of direct democracy, their social and economic liberties, and the concept of a federation of states, and this ideology, except for a few Khaazai-aligned areas, has not been affected by outside events.

Economy

Economic System

The Cosmician economic system can best be described as a state capitalist one, where a market of sorts still remains, but the state controls virtually all companies and means of production. This ensures maximum efficiency in allocating the seemingly deliberately limited resources to keep the people content, but not too content. This does not apply to foreigners who are citizens of Greater Cosmicium, most commissioned officers, and all researchers involved in major research projects, who get to purchase and receive items way above the range and price of an average person, like gourmet foods, color televisions, mansions in prestigious planets, some more tech-savvy ones even have arcade machines and powerful computers in their rooms.

Computing and Planning

Greater Cosmicium's computers almost always use vacuum tubes to power them and punch-tape, sometimes cassette tapes to store data in. This technology has been decried by some "high-tech" civilizations as primitive, bulky and weak, but transistor or quantum computers are not necessary to develop powerful spaceships and superweapons, they only make computing more compact and slightly easier, and transistors and integrated circuits could lead to technologies that lead to major revolts. In case compact computing power really is needed, salvaged integrated circuits and magnetic storage devices from Cosmicium's conquered states are reconfigured and optimized to be smaller and require fewer integrated circuits. The demand for integrated circuits is such that there is usually a sector in most major Cosmician labs dedicated to transistor and quantum computers, their reverse-engineering and production.

Due to the massive size of the country, human planning is unfeasible, so Greater Cosmicium has countless computers dedicated to calculating the resource demands and distributing and rationing them accordingly. More priority is given to their communication speed than anything else, as a delay of just a millisecond could disrupt the resource assignment, damaging all other sectors of the economy.

UPDATE July 1072917: In early May of 1072917, the first natively designed Cosmician computer using integrated circuits was tested, to great success. Later that month, Strategos 2.0 was built using similar technology. Unlike Strategos 1.0, which took up an entire city with vacuum tubes and punch-tape and couldn't perform anything other than basic analyses, Strategos 2.0 can fit into a pocket, has a personality (voice: military_male_01), and can command armies and fleets if needed.

Major advances have also been made in the consumer market. On the 29th of June 1072917, the Admiral A65 was introduced, based on the Commodore 64 with natively designed chips, as the entry-level modern Cosmician computer. 300 nonillion (3x1032) were produced in the first batch, and despite their price of 6,000,000 IC (equivalent to $14,000), all were sold out in 20 hours. Accompanying it were the high-end Admiral 600, based on the Amiga 500, and the Admiral 5000, based on the Amiga 2000. Even though they cost even more than the A65 (25,000,000 IC/$58,300 and 40,000,000 IC/$93,300 respectively), they sold out even quicker, in less than 6 hours.
