The Technocratic United Kingdom of Girania is a massive, cultured nation, ruled by John Lupinssen VII with a fair hand, and notable for its deadly medical pandemics, complete lack of prisons, and compulsory gun ownership. The hard-nosed, hard-working, democratic, humorless population of 3.919 billion Giranians are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.

The tiny, corrupt, outspoken government juggles the competing demands of Education, Industry, and Defense. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Faenor. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 6.3%.

The frighteningly efficient Giranian economy, worth a remarkable 1,332 trillion Gears a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Information Technology industry, with significant contributions from Tourism, Retail, and Arms Manufacturing. Average income is an amazing 339,896 Gears, but there is a large disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 1,439,180 per year while the poor average 51,858, a ratio of 27.8 to 1.

A formerly quiet little town is now booming as both a cult centre and a tourist attraction, the government is spending billions of Gears on a fancy space probe to find a planet that may not even exist, the government's stance on marriage is 'Let Giranians marry themselves', and door-to-door salesmen are frequently beaten up by 'vigilantes'. Crime is totally unknown. Girania's national animal is the Tropical Wolf, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its national religion is Alphanism.

Girania is ranked 3,153rd in the world and 9th in Novo Brasil for Largest Agricultural Sector, scoring 9,513.01 on the Mu-Bah-Daggs Productivity Index.
