Royal Galimencian Ground Forces
The Royal Galimencian Ground Forces(RGGF),also known as the Royal Galimencian Army, is the land service branch of the Galimencian Armed Forces. It is one of the eight Galimencian uniformed services,and is the oldest and senior-most branch of the armed forces in the Order Of Pretence of the Galimencian Armed Forces.
Until the Galimencian War of Lilies, Galimencia never had a standing army with professional officers and careerist corporals and sergeants. It relied on militia organised by local officials or private forces mobilised by the nobility, or on hired mercenaries from Europe. From the later Middle Ages until the War of Lilies, when a foreign expeditionary force was needed, such as the one that Harold VII took to France and that fought at the Battle of Callington, the army, a professional one, was raised for the duration of the expedition.
The army then went rapid expansion during the Colonial wars, which lasted from 1850 to 1965, as a large standing army was required to protect Galimencian colonies abroad. The army became the principal fighting force of the Galimencian Armed Forces, and soon started to exert it's influence in the politics too. The army underwent further expansion during the World War I, Galimencian Civil War and the subsequent World War II.
It is the second largest standing army in the world, with 2,657,063 active troops and 1,550,000 reserve troops. Legally, all men above the age of 18 years of age must undergo mandatory military training, although this law is no longer enforced. The Galimencian Armed Forces has the biggest military budget in the world, with a budget of 700 billion NSD. Galimencia is considered a military superpower.
The Galimencian Armed forces is lead by the Prime Minister of Galimencia, while the sovereign monarch of Galimencia who ceremonially acts as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. The Royal Ground Forces, along with the other branches of the military, is under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Defense, lead by the Minister of Defense. The Chief Of Imperial Defense Staff is the professional head of all the branches of the Galimencian Armed Forces. The five different uniformed branches each have their own separate Head of Staff, who are in turn responsible to the Chief of Imperial Defense Staff. The Chief of Imperial Army Staff is the professional head of the Royal Galimencian Ground Forces.
