The Dominion of Failed Star is a colossal, safe nation, ruled by Master of Sciences with an even hand, and renowned for its sprawling nuclear power plants, complete lack of prisons, and lack of airports. The hard-nosed, humorless population of 6.083 billion Scientists are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

The relatively small, corrupt, socially-minded government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Education, and Environment. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Black Sun. The average income tax rate is 66.3%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The very strong Enviomentalist economy, worth a remarkable 1,232 trillion Notes a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a slick, highly efficient, quite specialized black market in Information Technology, Arms Manufacturing, Tourism, and Book Publishing. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is an amazing 202,588 Notes, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Scientists regularly clone human beings for research purposes, 'The Anti-Government Hour' is a popular programme on many of Failed Star's radio stations, janitors and factory workers are often better educated than the bosses they work for, and one-man canoes fitted with the latest tracking technology leave no room for one man. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown. Failed Star's national animal is the Possum, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its national religion is Atheism.

Failed Star is ranked 243,974th in the world and 5,901st in the Pacific for Most Primitive, scoring -775.13 on the Scary Big Number Scale.
