The Empire of Editali is a very large, orderly nation, remarkable for its compulsory military service, digital currency, and anti-smoking policies. The hard-nosed, cynical population of 110 million Editalians are ruled without fear or favor by a psychotic dictator, who outlaws just about everything and refers to the populace as "my little playthings."

The government — a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, corrupt, moralistic, socially-minded, well-organized morass — juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defense, and Healthcare. The average income tax rate is 70.3%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but sluggish Editalian economy, worth 2.12 trillion gold coins a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a large, well-organized, quite specialized black market in Door-to-door Insurance Sales, Retail, Basket Weaving, and Automobile Manufacturing. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is 19,275 gold coins, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 2.6 times as much as the poorest.

Truncheon-mounted cameras record the beating of criminals in dynamic HD detail, the state conscripts sociopathic orphan girls to train as professional assassins, mandatory electronic currency is a boon for credit card companies and government surveillance, and political dissidents are cut off from essential services. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Editali's national animal is the fox, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.

Editali is ranked 164,301st in the world and 7,327th in the South Pacific for Largest Furniture Restoration Industry, scoring -9.9 on the Spitz-Pollish Productivity Index.
