I'm Dead Interviews: Emjay

Emjay (also known as East Malaysia) sits down with I'm Dead to talk about his NationStates history and how the East Pacific has impacted his life.

East Malaysia on his NationStates History

East Malaysia wrote:I joined May 27th, 2004 and on the same day I joined the regional forum. Next day I applied to be a regional judge and a couple days later I put in my map claim. And that’s where I started with my roleplay and regional government careers.

In 2005 I worked in what is an equivalent as a Minister nowadays but those who helped the Delegate, Loop, in those days were called Secretaries. I was the Secretary of Tourism and Regional Promotion. I promoted joining the forum and roleplay.

I would say from 2006 through 2007 I focused on roleplaying. I don’t believe I held any major government roles. I did always submit new forum banners to the admins of the time.

2008 was a universal slow year for many people. I was away from NS when the coup initially happened. But rooted myself deep within the resistance. There I served as a person trying to get other regions to support us and as a Elder.

After the coup I helped oversee the original Concordat. Once the dust settled I believe I ended up in the 3rd Magisterium. And thinking back I might have served in the Magisterial Assembly (might need to fact check this one but I’ve been off and on when it comes to the legislature— the legislative body before the Magisterium.

Between 2009 and 2011 I was heavily involved in the regional everything of Hyrule. I even was Delegate at one point.

In 2009 or 2010 is when I became what is considered a global moderator now. That’s when I started my path of helping administrate the community

By 2011 or 2012 I believe I was fully back in TEP and I’m probably going to get the years mixed up a little but I was Secretary of Embassy Authority (FA head essentially) under a Todd McCloud delegacy.

2013-2015 I was a Vizier but I did resign sometime in 2015 due to personal issues. This continued until 2017. It was a rough patch.

After I returned I continued my regular scheduled admin duties and became active in roleplay once again.

In 2018 a lot happened in the region. The Roleplay server was deleted after some OOC issues with the then RP Mod. At the time Hobbes oversaw RP but when he was not able to perform those duties I took over.

Roleplay was a mess and dead by the time I became the admin on point. So I worked with the team of cartographers and we got it going again.

Rebuilding roleplay was my focus but due to actions under the Fedele executive and Daveland’s Magisterium I answered the call and became active in the Magisterium.

After the coup in the fall of 2019 I took a step back from being on the forefront of roleplay administration to allow the cartos, mod, and admin to handle it.

From later 2019 - early 2022 I was active in government. I served as a cabinet advisor, FA advisor, deputy minister, minister, chief minister of RA and vizier.

As of today I’m still an active member of the community. I have resigned from regional gameplay with the exception of being a vizier and an unofficial advisor to the executive. On the roleplay front I have also resigned from taking any direct roleplay administrative or moderative actions. I merely advise the other staff members as they need it. My sole focus in my twilight years in roleplaying, minor gameplay, and OOC moderation.

A Discussion between I'm Dead and Emjay

1) What made you join NS?
Emjay: I was looking online for either government or nation simulation games and NationStates was one of the options that popped up in the search results. So I simply gave it a try.

2) Were you founded in TEP or did you join it for some other reason?
Emjay: Founded and raised in The East Pacific. I joined the forum and jumped right in the same day.

3) Do you enjoy TEP and NS?

Emjay: I do enjoy a lot of TEP. The community is an amazing place. Good people. NS on the other hand… I’ll plead the fifth on that one. It’s alright.

4) Do you do anything else like NS and TEP?
Emjay: I’ve played similar games in the past but my dedication is to TEP’s community.

5) Do you ever regret joining NS?
Emjay: I can’t say I have any regrets about joining NS. It’s just a game at the end of the day.

6) How has NS and TEP changed your life?
Emjay: They've enabled me to explore the deep depths of my imagination that perhaps I wouldn't have without them.
