Political Factions

East Angrian politics are organized along the principles of direct democracy, which means that there are no political parties in the traditional sense. There are, however, a few broad political movements or factions that hold sizeable influence on all levels - from the small neighborhood community to the whole free territory. Most people identify strongly with one or two of these movements.

Currently Active Political Movements

Anarchist Community - Anacistʃe Gemēnʃap
Colors: Black; red, orange, green, blue, purple, and white
Headquarters: Hamborc
Ideology: Social Anarchism, Individualist Anarchism
Political System: Anarchism
Economic Model: Communism, Collectivism, Syndicalism, Socialism, Mutualism, Free Market Socialism
Social Stance: Revolutionary
Geopolitical Practice: Confederalism
Pro: Gun rights, voluntaryism, economic pluralism
Contra: State monopoly on legitimate violence, military, parliament, environmental regulations

The Anarchist Community is currently the strongest political power in Sassony, after recently having gained a lot of support in the population. They are made up of adherents of all the major currents of social and individualist anarchism, including anarcho-communism, collectivism, syndicalism, mutualism, and egoism. A portion of the anarchists' stances overlaps with those of the communists, but they still disagree on most issues. The Anarchist Community has been keeping the KIIZ in check for the past decades, making sure they don't turn East Angria into an authoritarian dictatorship.
Anarchism strives for the abolition of hierarchies in all areas of life. First and foremost, they want to limit the power of the state and all its organs, and finally disestablish them. The AG is also opposed to capitalism, sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, and all other tendencies that establish or promote unjust hierarchy.
However, aside from those common stances, the AG is the most internally divided political movement of the country. Its members disagree on many important issues, such as the preferred economic structure, the individual over the collective, spirituality and atheism, and so on. Important subfactions include:

  • Free Laborers' Union - Frēe Arbēderin̄-Uniōn (anarcho-syndicalists with ties to the FKB)

  • One for All - Ēn før Altehaup (Collectivists)

  • Black Flag - Svārte Flaɣ (pure anarchists and insurrectionaries)

  • Union of Egoists - Uniōn fun Egoistin̄ (individualists and egoist anarchists)

The AG specializes in horizontal organization and creates and supports free spaces and community centers across the free territory. They are one of the oldest consistent political movements in the country, having played an important role in the resistance against the national-socialist takeover in the 1930s and in the struggle for independence. Members of the AG are sometimes stereotyped as chaotic, disrespectful, violent, and radical by their opponents.

Free Communist Movement - Frēe Komunistʃe Bevēgŋ
Colors: Red; gold
Headquarters: Rūrstat-Botrop
Ideology: Libertarian Communism, Anarcho-Communism
Political System: Libertarianism, Anarchism
Economic Model: Communism, Socialism
Social Stance: Progressive, Revolutionary
Geopolitical Practice: Internationalism, confederalism
Pro: gun rights, space exploration, voluntaryism
Contra: economic pluralism, cars,

The Free Communist Movement originated in a split of the Communist Internationale in Sassony (KIIZ) in 2017. It is made up of the former libertarian-anarchist wing of the KIIZ, who hold decentralization and individual freedom in high regard and reject single-party rule. The FKB is still influenced by teachings of Marx and Engels, but even more so by Peter Kropotkin, Rosa Luxemburg, Murray Bookchin and Abdullah Öcalan. Their goal is the establishment of a free communist society in Sassony and around the world. This entails the abolishment of social classes, money, capitalist expolitation, and the state. Goods shall be freely accessible and distributed according to need. The movement has a strong following among agricultural, industrial, and service workers across the country. Its members are responsible for most of the infrastructural advancements in the country.

The Free Communist Movement is closely tied to the communist and collectivist wing of the Anarchist Community, as well as to the Progressives. They have around the same number of members as the latter.
The FKB vehemently rejects the teachings of Lenin, Stalin, Mao, the Kim dynasty, and other totalitarian communists. This stance led to the split from the ZEP, an authoritarian communist party that is also made up of former KIIZ members. Still, old communist stereotypes against the Free Communists still exist, and they're sometimes stereotyped as uneducated grunts or as armchair political theorists far away from the real world.

Progressives - Prōgresīve
Colors: Blue; red and black
Headquarters: Dārmʃtat
Ideology: Progressivism, Transhumanism, Libertarian Socialism, Democratic Socialism
Political System: Parliamentary Democracy, Libertarianism
Economic Model: Socialism
Social Stance: Accelerationism, Progressivism, Transhumanism
Geopolitical Practice: Globalism
Pro: Parliament, space exploration, centralism, state monopoly on legitimate violence, man over nature, environmental regulations
Contra: Gun rights, anarchy

The Progressives, a.k.a. Prōgresīve Libertārʃe Zōtʃalistn (Progressive Libertarian Socialists) are closer to a political party in terms of organizational structure. Their stances are close to both the anarchist and communist movements, but still incompatible. Instead of no state at all, they want a minimal state that enforces the freedom and safety of all its citizens. Instead of free distribution according to need, they are in favor of socialist self-management. The PLZ argue that progress is the main motor of good in the world, and that a small, efficiently organized government is the best tool to speed it up and make sure it reaches everyone. They promote new models of education, increased contributions to science and humanities, as well as freedom and equality throughout East Angria. The Progressives are a relatively new political movement, having been established in the late 90s and arriving on the mainstream political scene about a decade later. Many members of the party are also adherents of transhumanism.
The PLZ are widely regarded as a platform for intellectuals and the educated elites of Sassony. They are sometimes stereotyped as dreamy futurists or crazy scientists with no base in reality.

Activists for Peace and Nature - Aktivistn før Frēdn un Natūr
Colors: Green, blue, and white
Headquarters: Bon
Ideology: Green Politics, Environmentalism, Pacifism, Feminism, Anti-militarism
Political System: Libertarianism
Economic Model: Socialism, Social Ecology
Social Stance: Progressivism
Geopolitical Practice: Globalism, Pacifism
Pro: Non-violence, environmental regulations
Contra: Gun rights, military, border control, man over nature

The Activists for Peace and Nature are East Angria’s equivalent of a green party. They are the driving force behind pro-environmental reforms, the disbanding of the military, the heavy reduction of car usage, and non-violent protest against other issues. The AFN originated in youth and university subculture of the sixties and played a pivotal role in all the revolutions and developments that made Sassony what it is today. The ideals of civil unrest, peaceful resistance, and non-parliamentary opposition are still prevalent in the territory’s culture and politics today. While there is also a strong trend for social ecology in the anarchist movement, the AFN disagree on a few central issues. They advocate the limitation of a few freedoms in favor of the greater good, such as gun control, pro-environment regulations, and female quotas in organizations.
Members of the AFN are sometimes seen as lazy, dirty, avoiding confrontation, not radical enough, or too idealistic by others.

Movement for Spiritual Interests - Bevēgŋ før Spiritwele Andēln
Colors: Purple and gold
Headquarters: Stemvæide
Ideology: Spiritual Politics, Pacifism, Individualism
Political System: Libertarianism, Parliamentary Democracy
Economic Model: Neutral
Social Stance: Neutral
Geopolitical Practice: Pacifism
Pro: Non-violence, economic pluralism, voluntaryism
Contra: military, parliament, gun rights, man over nature

The Movement for Spiritual Interests is hard to quantify in political terms. They hold no purely political ideas that can be painted into a specific corner. Instead, they advocate spirituality, which must be distinguished from organized religion or specific dogmas. The MSA say that the exact nature of political organization does not matter. According to them, it is more important to become a good human being by a quest of spiritual self-discovery. When everyone has found tranquility and happiness with themselves, then the world will know true peace and prosperity. They promote individual empowerment, a decrease of work-related stress, a decelerated society, and reconnection with nature. Thus they have a lot in common with the AFN, but their focus lies elsewhere.
The BSA is a platform for most of the belief systems that are widespread in Sassony, such as Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Paganism, and others.
Adherents of other political movements like to stereotype members of the MSA as out-of-touch new age hippies who have no place in politics.

Conservative People's Party of Sassony - Konzervatīve Folkspartai fun Zasn
Colors: Gray; red, black, and gold
Headquarters: Patabuorn
Ideology: Conservatism, Christian Democracy, Economic Liberalism
Political System: Authoritarianism, Parliamentary Democracy
Economic Model: Capitalism, Social Market Economy
Social Stance: Conservatism, Reactionary
Geopolitical Practice: Moderate Nationalism
Pro: parliament, military, centralism, border control, state monopoly on legitimate violence, man over nature
Contra: anarchy, voluntaryism, gun rights, socialism and communism

The Conservative People's Party of Sassony is a remnant from the times immediately following East Angrian independence. They have roots in the German Zentrumspartei and Christlich-Demokratische Union parties. The KFP promotes a reestablishment of the state with all its institutions, a parliamentary democracy, social market economy, and a return to the traditional values of Christianity.
By conservatives and democrats around the world, they are often recognized as the “good guys” trying to get the chaotic anarchist territory back on track. Within their own country however, they are seen as an extremist fringe party whose supporters are stuck in the last century by almost all other movements.

Socialist Unity Party of Sassony - Zōtʃalistʃe Ēnhaitspartai fun Zasn
Colors: Bright red; yellow
Headquarters: Maideborc
Ideology: Marxism-Leninism, Stalinism, Maoism
Political System: Authoritarianism
Economic Model: Communism, Socialism
Social Stance: Revolutionary
Geopolitical Practice: Internationalism, nationalism
Pro: parliament, military, centralism, border control, state monopoly on legitimate violence, man over nature
Contra: gun rights, voluntaryism, economic pluralism, anarchy

The Socialist Unity Party is the smaller one of two movements that originated in a split of the Communist Internationale in Sassony (KIIZ) in 2017. It is an authoritarian Marxist-Leninist movement with the proclaimed goal of establishing a communist society in Sassony and around the world. As its name suggests, the ZEP sees itself as a vanguard party leading the revolution in Sassony according to the political theories of Marx, Engels, Lenin, Stalin, Mao, and others. This stance led to the split from the FKB, a libertarian communist movement that is also made up of former KIIZ members.

The Socialist Unity Party is only supported by a tiny minority of the Sasson population and subject to ridicule by the FKB, the AG, and the smaller movements. There is little to no chance that they will ever transform the free and prosperous society of Sassony into a pseudo-communist dictatorship.

Economic Initiative for Sassony - Vērtʃaplice Initʃatīve før Zasn
Colors: Gold, sky blue
Headquarters: Roterdam/Amsterdam
Ideology: Classical Liberalism, Neoliberalism, Minarchism
Political System: Parliamentary Democracy, Libertarianism
Economic Model: Laissez-Faire Capitalism
Social Stance: Reactionary
Geopolitical Practice: Globalist
Pro: voluntaryism, parliament, man over nature
Contra: anarchy, economic pluralism, environmental regulations

The Economic Initiative for Sassony represents the interests of international corporations and foreign investors in East Angria. They accept the libertarian social order of the country, but opt for a departure from the socialist economy and reintroduction of a free capitalist market. They can be classified as a laissez-faire capitalist or minarchist movement.
The VIZ is often pegged into the same category as the KFP by their opponents, even though they disagree on many subjects.

National Sasson Party - Natʃonāl-Zasiʃe Partai
Colors: Brown; red, black, and white (national colors of Sassony)
Headquarters: Unknown
Ideology: Fascism, National-Socialism
Political System: Totalitarianism
Economic Model: Capitalism, Corporatism
Social Stance: Sasson Nationalism
Geopolitical Practice: Jingoism, Chauvinism, Militarism, Imperialism
Pro: military, centralism, economic pluralism, state monopoly on legitimate violence, space exploration, man over nature
Contra: gun rights, anarchy, parliament, voluntaryism, non-violence

The National Sasson Party is a far-right, nationalist, irredentist, post-fascist movement that mostly operates out of hiding for fear of popular resistance. They are resented by almost all of the East Angrian population, especially anarchists and communists, and are not outlawed for the simple reason that movements and ideas can’t be outlawed in East Angria. The NZP wants to rebuild a strong military, a popular racial identity, unification or conquest of other Germanic-speaking areas, and a strong, unitary state organized along their fascist ideals. The NZP are both bogeyman and subject of ridicule for the adherents of all other movements and face overwhelming non-violent resistance at their rallies. Several terrorist attacks by members or sympathiers of the NZP have been prevented or at least avenged by the armed population of Sassony.

Defunct Political Movements

The Communist Internationale in Sassony - Komunistʃe Inanatʃonāle in Zasn
Colors: Red; gold
Headquarters: Pidliŋe (Zārlond)
Ideology: Libertarian Communism, Marxism
Political System: Authoritarianism, Parliamentary Democracy, Libertarianism, Anarchism
Economic Model: Communism
Social Stance: Progressive, Revolutionary
Geopolitical Practice: Internationalism
Pro: gun rights, state monopoly on legitimate violence, space exploration
Contra: economic pluralism

The Communist Internationale in Sassony was a communist movement influenced by the teachings of Marx, Engels, Kropotkin, and other political theorists and leaders. Their goal was the establishment of a communist society in East Angria (Sassony) and around the world. This would have entailed the abolishment of social classes, money, capitalist expolitation, and the state. Goods were to be freely accessible and distributed according to need. The prevalent political stance of the KIIZ was somewhere between classical Marxism and Libertarian Communism.
The KIIZ was the dominant political power in Sassony from the seventies to early 2010s. It was both a collaborator and competitor of the next strongest movement, the anarchists. However, it was viewed as increasingly dogmatic and authoritarian in nature, which alienated it from other movements and finally led to an official split in the summer of 2017. The KIIZ was succeeded by the Free Communist Movement (FKB) and the Socialist Unity Party (ZEP).
