The Inquisition

Inquisition

The Inquisition is an expansive paramilitary organization chartered by King Tyroth to defend the Kingdom of Dyste from a wide variety of threats, both of this world and extradimensional. The organization was orginally chartered to root out necromancers and demons, but over time it has evolved to meet and eliminate an ever growing number of threat. To this end the organization maintains five divisions, with each focused on particular task to ensure maximum adaptability in the event of any crisis. The organization, which consists of around three thousand personnel stationed in a number of field offices and stations throughout the country.

Organization

Over the course of its existence the Inquisition has grown to be too large for a single leader to properly oversee, which naturally led to it being divided into five branches with varying responsibilities. Each branch varies in size according to the demands imposed upon it by its assigned task, but even the smalles branch at minimum maintains at least one hundred personnel. At current there are five branches of the Inquisition, which are Veckne, Graveck, Ofvnir, Turvess, and Glaston. At the head of each branch is a Auror who acts as the commander, with each Auror being entrusted by the high inquisitor to carry out both their direct orders, as well being capable enough to carry out out independent action if need be. Due to the demands of their office, each auror is typically fchosen from the ranks of the Inquistions's veteran members, with candidates being expected to complete a rigorous evaluation and needing to meeting very stringent prerequisites before even being considered for the job. Beneath the Auror are at least two sub commanders who act as both assistants to the Auror in managing the day to day affairs of the branch, as well as acting as field commanders if needed.

Branches:

Veckne:
Acts as the Intelligence gathering arm of the Inquisition. As befitting its assigned duty, Veckne maintains a large number of personnel who are divided between its intelligence gathering office and it's analysis wing. The intelligence gathering office is primarily made up sylphs, humans, and tanager who go on clandestine missions to uncover or seek out any potential threats or subversive groups within dystan society, as well as regularly deploying abroad to monitor Dyste's allies and enemies. In contrast, the Analysis office sifts through the data gathered by the IAO to determine if any potential threats are legitimate or if they were merely a false positive.

Graveck:
Acts as the covert operations branch of the Inquisition. Essentially Graveck is tasked with eliminating the threats identified by Veckne using clandestine means, be it through sabotage, political manipulation, or even outright assassination. In this capacity, Graveck maintains as large force of commandos and saboteurs who regularly remain on alert, ready to act immediately should a threat or potential danger arise. Due to the nature of their work, Graveck is often regarded as one of if not the most dangerous branches an Inquisition recruit an be assigned to, due to members being expected to lay down their lives without question if needed for the well being of Dyste. Regardless of the danger though, Graveck personnel maintain a highly professional demeanor even in the most dire of situations

Arnhem:
Acts as the Research and Development division of the Inquisition. To this end Arnhem is tasked with developing new technologies, gadgets, and spells to add in the missions of the other divisions. Due to its focus on experimentation and technological development, the Arnhem division is highly attractive towards many aspiring mages, engineers, and scientists from both the mainland and Glaristant itself, with many recruits often being offered lucrative contracts if they join Arnhem.

Turvess:
This branch, known alternatively as the Inquisitor's office, is responsible for the activities of the Inquisition's actual Inquisitors. In essence Turvess coordinates and identifies supernatural threats and heretical groups within Dyste that pose a threat to the crown, after which it dispatches a group of Inquisitors to either suppress or outright eradicate the problem. Due to the extreme danger of confronting supernatural entities or the madness of many cults, Turvess only accepts the bravest and most committed of recruits, which results in the division having around a hundred personnel. Despite their small numbers and the danger however, the division is regarded as the elite of the Inquistion and arguably holds its best personnel. In keeping with its tasks, the Inquisitors of Turvess are required to be well trained in a number of disciplines such as combat spell casting, melee combat, and hold a good grasp of the inner workings of the mind. As a final note, the division at times acts as the Inquisition's internal affairs department.

Glaston(Glaristant Constabulary)
Acts as the law enforcement branch/police of the Grand Duchy of Glaristant. While nominally considered a branch of the Inquisition, Glaston is more or less its own independent branch(Often it only has minimal interaction with the rest of the Inquisition). Owing to its duties, Glaston is easily the largest branch with over 2,000 personnel, who are mainly made of up retired members of the Inquisition.

Leadership structure:

Grand Inquisitor: Iriyea Arheim

High Inquisitor/Deputy Commander: Eylah Lustevios

Veckne:
Auror: Ceres Skyvel: Twenty year sylph veteran of the Inquisition and veckne. Initially started as an analyst before transferring to the IAO, wherein she distinguished herself by finding several attempted demonic and cornerian intrusions into Dystan territory. Personality wise Ceres is known for being rather soft spoken and analytical, very rarely speaking unless absolutely necessary.

Graveck:
Auror: Tarkven Hevares: Tarkven is a fetchling assassin who has been a member of the Inquisition for close to two centuries. Known as one of Iriyea's most loyal lieutenants, Hevares served as the Grand Duchess's personal enforcer and assassin. Eventually she was ordered by Iriyea to create a branch of the Inquisition dedicated to covert operations and clandestine work, which needless to say resulted in the formation of Graveck. Despite stories claiming that she is cold and unfeeling, the Auror of the Graveck office is quite personable and informal(Often trying to create an atmosphere of camaraderie within her branch.)Instead Tarkven exudes an aura of friendliness and sociability, but is nonetheless very serious and no-nonsense when on duty.

Arnhem:
Auror/Director: Adrianna Vespera
Species: Tanager
Adrianna is a consummate professional who is highly devoted to her work. Unlike many of her fellow tanager, she holds a great sense of curiosity and is constantly searching for new scientific or technological breakthroughs. As such, she often spends most of her work hours and free time in the lab, either tinkering with tech or running experiments.

Turvess:
Auror: Eylah Lustevios

Glaston:
Auror/Commissioner: Helgeid Sklaven
Species: Human

As one of the few humans within the Inquisition, Helgeid feels a drive to prove the value of her species to the organization's higher ups. It is this drive that pushes Helgeid to be the best, whether it be in her prior stint at Turvess or at her current position in Glaston. As head of Glaston Helgeid strives to ensure the rule of law and that the members of Glaston carry both themselves and their charges with the utmost professionalism and pride. It is to this end that she always strives to keep the organization independent from the political machinations of some of its fellow branches.
