Formed “[O]f Merchants, by Merchants, for Merchants,” the Territory of Diwi, a territory/colony of Nihon and the Tokugawa Shonugate, is a group of islands situated in the Melanesian Region of the Australasia in the South Pacific. Settled by Japanese merchants in the Late Edo Period, the island group has continued to grow both geographically, politically, and economically. Very nationalistic, the Japanese settlers of the islands are extremely loyal and praiseful of the current Emperor, Emperor Komei, and remain very tentative to follow Japanese tradition, customs, and culture. Yet, their isolation from the Mainland and their mostly agriarian merchant status have formed society in the islands to be largely different and distinct from society in Feudal Mainland Japan.
