Overview of Discoverian Law

There are three important documents for Discoverian citizens to be familiar with in outline. These are the Articles of Founding 2006, the Primary Legislation Act 2006, and the World Assembly Act 2008.

The Discoverian Articles of Founding 2006 is the codification of the principles from Two Principles, One Nation into law. It serves as Discoveria's constitution and bill of citizens' rights and duties, describing in detail the structure of government and the Offices, as well as the core principles of Science and Altruism, other major principles such as Rationality, Integrity, Honesty, Independence, Justice, Productiveness, and Pride (each one represented and implemented by one government Office), and lesser principles or rights such as the Principle of Philosophical Freedom.

The Primary Legislation Act 2006 established the detailed method by which the Discoverian General Assembly may pass new bills into law, and established a initial working legal framework largely based on statutory and case law from both the United Kingdom and the Veritas Study Community (prior to the end of the FORGE trial). Legal issues not covered by specific Discoverian domestic law are generally resolved by referring to previous judgements in the UK and Veritas.

The World Assembly Act 2008 established the terms of Discoveria's membership in the World Assembly, repealing and superseding the previous United Nations Act 2007. This Act commits the Utopian Commonwealth to the implementation of all World Assembly Resolutions for such time as those Resolutions remain part of international law. The specific implementation of each individual WA Resolution is covered in its own Act, which must be voted in by the Discoverian General Assembly like other domestic legislation.
