Profile: Matthew Turing - Discoverian Ambassador to the World Assembly

OOC: This is the primary source for information on Matthew Turing, Discoveria's Ambassador to the World Assembly. It is an updated copy of this post in the General Assembly forum.

Name: Matthew LinkTuring
Age: 32 (born LinkDecember 1, 1985)
Birthplace: Veritas Study Community, United Kingdom
Family: Matthew was the eldest child of three, having one brother and one sister. His father was an administrator in the Veritas Civil Service, which was responsible for the operation of the study community in the FORGE Trial (that eventually led to the design and establishment of Discoveria); he is now a senior manager in the Utopia Foundation. His mother is a sociology lecturer and author at the National University of Discoveria in Las Veritas. Matthew's long-term partner is Jack Durkheim, Discoverian Ambassador to the Stonewall Alliance. Matthew has no children.
Education: BA(Hons) in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University; MA in Political Science from the National University of Discoveria
Employment: 2008-present: Employed by the Office of Foreign Affairs: World Assembly Division. As of 2012, he represents the Office of Foreign Affairs (and by extension the government and people of Discoveria) as Discoverian Ambassador to the World Assembly. (His predecessor defenestrated herself as a result of a breakdown caused by the consecutive passage of several inane World Assembly resolutions.)
Background: Matthew was brought up in the Veritas Study Community, which was established to study liberal representative democracy. His family travelled widely (one of the benefits of having a father involved in the administration of the community was the opportunity to visit other study communities around the world), exposing the young Matthew to life in many different cultures, and fuelling his desire to learn more about politics. At University he was President of the Oxford Union debating society, and was involved in a number of other student societies including the Oxford University Students' Union and Trinity College JCR. After graduation, he moved to the newly established nation of Discoveria and was part of the first cohort of postgraduate students to enter the National University of Discoveria. While at the National University, Matthew was one of the founders of the university's LGBT society as well as the President of the university's Altruist Utopian society.
Politics: Although a keen supporter of the left-wing Discoverian Altruist Utopian Party, Matthew's background and experience of different cultures within the FORGE Trial make him more moderate and worldly than most of the AUP rank-and-file.
Titles: Discoverian Ambassador to the World Assembly (2012-present)
Responsibilities: Liaising with the Discoverian Office of Foreign Affairs: World Assembly Division; representing Discoveria in the debating chambers of the World Assembly.
Interests: Politics, LGBT rights, debating, swimming, diving
