The Sunken City of Deep Rapture is a colossal, cultured nation, ruled by Andrew Ryan with an even hand, and notable for its barren, inhospitable landscape, smutty television, and complete absence of social welfare. The hard-nosed, hard-working, humorless population of 5.087 billion Deep Raptureans enjoy some of the most opulent lifestyles in the region, unless they are unemployed or working-class, in which case they are variously starving to death or crippled by easily preventable diseases.

The minute, corrupt, pro-business government, or what there is of one, is dominated by the Department of Industry, with Education also on the agenda, while Welfare and Environment aren't funded at all. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Rapture. Income tax is unheard of.

The frighteningly efficient Deep Rapturean economy, worth a remarkable 1,565 trillion Dollars a year, is driven almost entirely by the private sector, which is broadly diversified and led by the Retail industry, with significant contributions from Information Technology, Soda Sales, and Gambling. Average income is an amazing 307,837 Dollars, but there is a vast disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 2,052,590 per year while the poor average 17,527, a ratio of 117 to 1.

The nation's laws on image rights are amongst the strictest in the world, commercial jingles have been ham-handedly forced into world renowned symphonies, young girls aren't having a ball but they are enjoying themselves, and the DRBI Channel Tunnel project is plagued by delays. Crime, especially youth-related, is all-pervasive, perhaps because of the country's complete lack of prisons. Deep Rapture's national animal is the Sea Slug, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to heavy metals seepage into national waterways.

Deep Rapture is ranked 58,805th in the world and 775th in the Pacific for Most World Assembly Endorsements, with zero Valid Endorsements.
