Overseas Provinces and Territories [WIP]

Overseas Province
Territories that are politically and administratively identical to the original Seven Counties with their own recognised governments. Typically not included amongst them due to their geographic and cultural isolation.

Kjarnsviik Archipelago

Population: 93,975
Capital: Einarsfjord

A small, perpetually frozen archipelago approximately 380 miles northwest from the coastline of mainland Countesia. It is home to a hardy, tight knit and deeply religious community of whalers, herders and fishermen. it is the only region of Countesia to have an official state religion as a majority of the islanders still worship and make sacrifices the Old Norse gods.

Despite being ethnically and culturally distant to the Countesian people, the archipelago has been within the nations sphere of influence long before Countesia itself was a unified state. The relationship between the archipelago and the Countesians has fluttered between peaceful trade and violent colonialism for centuries before finally brokering its status as an protectorate under the widely cherished rule of the first Countesian Monarch, King Blake I, mostly out of desire to be left alone and protected from the interests of foreign powers. After the signing of the Federation Act which transformed the Kingdom of Countesia into the Federal Republic of Countesia, the Kjarnsviik Archipelago was elevated to an Overseas Province.

The islands do not possess a large military presence outside of a small, token airfield manned by Countesian soldiers within within the boundaries of the capital. Policing is not organised at a local level as minor crime and legal disputes are typically settled by the individual communities, but a small force of approximately 120 rangers stationed across the islands uphold the law and deal with the more serious crimes that sometimes occur.

Territories
Areas of land that are not part of any legally recognised or organised admistrative subdivision, but are formally claimed by the Federal Republic of Countesia as soveriegn territory.

West Caustoles Territory

Population: 564,871
Capital: Farmans Bay

Originally settled to extract what was predicted to be considerable deposits of mineral wealth, the settlement of Farmans Bay was almost abandoned within a week of being established after prospecting teams failed to find any economically viable deposits of ores. Fortunately, the colony found a second lease of life when incredibly abundant fishing grounds were discovered along its coastline. Combined with the produce from its rich and previously untouched soil, West Caustoles is now a major exporter of fresh fish, livestock and vegetables to Mainland Countesia.

A majority of the territories population resides in the settlements of Farmans Bay and New Hanlen, the remaining population spread out across countless miles of farmland and smaller communities.

Central Kloefield Territory

Population: 71,143
Capital: Alpha Landing

Currently home to a sizeable military garrison, harbour and airbase. Attempts to explore the interior of the claim to prospect alleged ore deposits have been hampered by indigenous folk supplied and armed by an unknown source with 1960's weaponry. All attempts to negotiate have been slow.

North Alacia Territory

Population: 381,784
Capital: Port Alacia

Once part of the vast holdings of the now defunct Craxx Empire, The Federal Republic of Countesia negotiated with the government of Stevid to claim this stretch of land to exploit its mineral wealth to fuel the ever expanding Countesian economy. The territory is home to three major settlements with Port Alacia being the primary international shipping port. With the smaller yet rapidly expanding settlements of Langley and Hamilton being the hub of all refinery and mining operations on the settlement, respectively.
