The Confederacy of City States Nation is a gargantuan, socially progressive nation, ruled by JR Ewing with a fair hand, and notable for its rum-swilling pirates, museums and concert halls, and smutty television. The hard-nosed, hard-working, democratic, humorless, devout population of 10.693 billion City Staters are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.

The minute, corrupt, pro-business, outspoken government, or what there is of one, juggles the competing demands of Defense, Education, and Industry. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Reading. Income tax is unheard of.

The frighteningly efficient City States Nationian economy, worth a remarkable 4,060 trillion Lire a year, is driven almost entirely by the private sector, which is broadly diversified and led by the Retail industry, with major contributions from Information Technology, Gambling, and Book Publishing. Average income is an amazing 379,777 Lire, but there is a large disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 1,806,193 per year while the poor average 47,026, a ratio of 38.4 to 1.

Citizens try to pass off bottlecaps they found in their backyards as historical artifacts, annulments are on the rise as couples discover their ancestors were born in the same hospitals, life expectancies inside correctional facilities vastly exceed the national average, and kids only know what plants are because they've seen them on the television. Crime, especially youth-related, is all-pervasive, with the police force struggling against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. City States Nation's national animal is the Armadillo, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its national religion is Industrialism.

City States Nation is ranked 843rd in the world and 20th in the South Pacific for Highest Crime Rates, with 55.79 Crimes Per Hour.
