Age of Antiquity
prehistory - 505 CE
This is the state of Captiotia before the first centralized monarchy was established on Captiotia Island. Civilization here consists of scattered tribes organized into proto-nations and a handful of coastal city-states, as well as some bands of nomadic travellers. The dominant ideologies and forms of government vary from region to region and over time. This long and ancient period is where most of the rich cultural history of Captiotia originated from.
Age of Stability
505 - 1617
Kingdom of Kaptiot
This is the first proper monarchy of Captiotia, and it lasts a very long time. Ruled by force from a strong central government, it sometimes experiences periods of political turbulence as its constituent territories perpetually reassert ancient conflicts and struggle for more independence based on historic ethnonational lines. Its mode of production is primarily feudal with slavery also somewhat common.
Named Alpha because it was the first Captiotian monarchy.
Age of Diversity
1617 - 1639
Warring States + Malachite Republic
This age sees a splintering of the unified Captiotian state as internal tensions rise to a breaking point, and the urban Malachi independently adopts an early modern democratic form of government to appeal to a changing world economy, bans slavery, and asserts itself as the Malachite Republic. The other regions see various conflicts and wars throughout this short age until the political expertise of the Malachite Republic can restore peace and organize a more equitable government for local and historical interests, despite the restoration of the monarchy.
Named Iota because it existed as many small states for a relatively brief period of time.
Age of Wealth
1639 - 1786
Kingdom of Captiot
The monarchy's restoration is viewed with scepticism by progressives of the Malachite Republic, so they design an early constitution to reasonably restrain the power of the monarch, hold them more accountable to the public, and ensure a level of fair power division equally among all geocultural regions of Captiotia. Some of these policies were eventually ignored or even abolished as time went on as high noble and royal powers feared it would inspire a further revolution back into republican degeneracy. This, along with the continuation of slavery, was viewed with growing resentment by the growing intellectual and wealthy mercantile classes.
Named Beta because it was the Second Kingdom of Captiotia.
Age of Liberty
1786 - 1828
Republic of Captiot
The early bourgeoisie of Captiotia seized control of the state and fully abolished the monarchy. The time was rife with conflict and instability. Slavery is restricted to domestic servitude. Urban capitalism overtakes society and under new laws and pro-corporation government, feudalism is rendered obsolete.
Named Epsilon after the dominant republican political party behind the revolution; it represented independence and psychic finesse in the cultural understanding of the time.
Age of Tradition
1828 - 1863
Kingdom of Captiotia
The Third Kingdom again promised stability, but as it veered further right and grew more aggressive, it drew intense criticism from both the capitalist and lower classes. Attempted conservative counterreforms to restore feudal relations and aristocracy faced disaster, conflict in the cities, and famine.
Named Gamma because it was the third monarchy.
Age of Reason
1863 - 1912
Republic of Captiotia
The liberal Second Republic saw much greater stability and prosperity than its first iteration. This age was largly inspired by enlightenment ideals overcoming the inevitable barbarism of the monarchy. Slavery is fully abolished and the government is commited to liberal, social-democratic practices during this time.
Named Pi to reflect enlightenment ideals and to reflect the government being by public and popular support.
Age of Change
1912 - 1948
Democratic Republic of Captiotia
Nicknamed the "Fourth Kingdom of Captiotia" by critics, the republic was reformalized as a reactionary and isolationist state bent on promoting only the interests of a bourgeois aristocracy.
Named Delta, one meaning was the age of change, the other is simply the "Fourth Kingdom".
Age of Community
1948 - now
Summatory Republic of Captiotia
Via violent revolution, the Communist Party gains control of and reforms government along specific ideological lines, ideally to represent a summation of popular and workers' interests. Slowly building until the 60s, a social movement then rapidly spreads, mostly within youth, to radically resist ideals and interests of liberal, conservative, and fascist threats, with the support of the struggling new government. Major domestic threats to socialism are vitrually extinguished in the following two decades.
During the 80s, in response to strengthening global neoliberalism, Sigma economic experts and worker representatives collaborate on a swift campaign to lessen and finally eliminate class distinctions by reforming and democratizing the economy, partially through a wave of decentralization, and culminating in official recognition of Captiotia under law as a mandatory socialist state under genuine worker control. Social investment in technology later hits a tipping point during the early 2000s and the quality of life rises drastically, while socially-equitable labor time per capita falls to unprecedented lows, meaning Captiot begin to suddenly partake in more recreational or academic pursuits.
In recent years, this has snowballed as the youth of Captiotia become more educated, especially in information technology. Where will our society go next?
