Overview

Organization

The Brulafi Revolutionary Defence Force relies primarily on a doctrine of "Total Defence". This doctrine stipulates that, if a superior enemy force is to invade Brulafi, then all the branches of the military are to cooperate together as units attached together, with air wings moving in sync with attached infantry units. The goal of this tactic is to bring the whole of the country to bear on any invader, with the conventional military moving as a rapid response unit to any threat crossing the border and with the general population enlisted to act as guerrilla fighters in order to wear down any invader who occupies Brulafi territory. As such, most air units are directly attached to a set infantry brigade, with only a few select independent fixed-wing units left over for the purpose of air defence and independent offensive maneuvers. The Air Force also maintains two paratrooper brigades, both formed in 1964 and with their own rotary-wing and fixed-wing transports available for use.

Central Intelligence Bureau

While technically not part of any branch and a direct service under the BRDF, The Brulafi Central Intelligence Bureau (CIB) works very closely with the BRDAF in activities everywhere from transport of agents and materiel all the way to intelligence gathering via aircraft on reconnaissance missions. As such, foreign analysts often incorrectly identify the CIB as a sub-branch of the Air Force. The agency inherits most of the foreign intelligence infrastructure and information from the defunct State Security Bureau, which in turn was heavily influenced, supplied and trained by the Soviet Committee for State Security (KGB). As such, the CIB is one of the most embedded and effective intelligence agencies in the Isles. The Bureau's subdivisions are known as "Directorates" and include:

  • Foreign Intelligence Directorate

  • Armed Forces Intelligence Directorate

  • Transportation Security Directorate

  • Border Security Directorate (coordinates with the Popular Militia's Border Control Division)

  • Operations and Technology Directorate

  • Special Protection Directorate (acts as VIP protection)

  • Diplomatic Security Directorate

  • Signals and Communications Intelligence Directorate

  • Foreign Labour Directorate (monitors Brulafi workers abroad)

  • Economic Security Directorate

Due to most operations of the CIB falling under military secrecy, more detailed information about the government agency is not known.
