Etymology

"Britain" comes from Latin Britannia, via Old French Bretaigne and Middle English Breteyne, possibly influenced by Old English Bryten(lond), probably also from Latin. The earliest known written references to the British Isles derive from the works of the Greek explorer Pytheas of Massalia; later Greek writers such as Diodorus of Sicily and Strabo who quote Pytheas use variants such as Prettanikē, "The Britannic [land, island]", and nesoi Brettaniai, "Britannic islands".

"Prussia" comes from Medieval Latin Borussi, Prusi, Latinized forms of the native name of the Lithuanian people who lived in the bend of the Baltic before being conquered 12c. and exterminated by (mostly) German crusaders who replaced them as the inhabitants. Perhaps from Slavic *Po-Rus "(The Land) Near the Rusi" (Russians). The duchy of Prussia after union with the Mark of Brandenberg, became the core of the Prussian monarchy and later the chief state in the German Empire.

The most common way to refer to a citizen of British Prussia is as a "British Prussian."

Demographics

Population
According to the 2016 NationStates census, the total population of British Prussia was around 14,000,000,000. It is the seventh-largest in the Greater Prussia (behind Allanea, Democratic Colonies, Jeruselem, Zellatia, Rejistania and New Hayesalia). Its overall population density is one of the highest in the world at 17,846 people per km², due to the particularly high island population density. Almost one-third of the population lives in British Prussia's North and South, which is predominantly urban, with about 80 million in the capital city of Castle Wolfenstein.

British Prussia's high literacy rate (99% at age 15 and above) is attributable to universal public education introduced for the primary level in 1870 and secondary level in 1900. Parents are obliged to have their children educated from the ages of 5 to 18, and can continue education free of charge in the form of A-Levels, vocational training or apprenticeship to age 18. About 60% of British Prussia students go on to post-secondary education (18+). The Church of England and the Roman Catholic Church function as the national churches, but all the major religions found in the world are represented in British Prussia.

British Prussia's population largely consists of White Anglo-Prussians. During antiquity, British Prussia was under Roman occupation for several centuries. Nevertheless, British Prussia is not homogeneously British and Prussian. There is a healthy population of minorities, immigrants and refugees specifically North Americans, Indians, Chinese, Arabs, Africans, and to a smaller extent, Latin Americans. The predominant and official language is English, although German is also well spoken.
