ABTS Borkpeka — Overview
ABTS Borkpeka is an artificial island and a de jure research vessel currently in service with the Allinean Navy. Borkpeka was named after Ingebjørg Borkpek, an Allinean scientist renowned for his works in chemistry. The island is legally registered as an off-shore research and development facility ship, and has its home port at Naval Base Yatesfield in the state of Garthram. Information about Borkpeka is scarce, particularly on its activities and treatment of laboratory subjects. In recent years, allegations of unethical treatment of subjects, mishandling of hazardous substances, challenging work culture, and its impact on surrounding marine environment — along with lack of disclosure on its facilities, activities and organisation — have been raised by the public, but both the Allinean Government and the Armed Forces have either denied or declined to answer such claims.

Borkpeka is a fledgling, efficient nation, notable for its barren, inhospitable landscape, compulsory military service, and irreverence towards religion. The hard-nosed, hard-working population of 5 million Borkpekans are free to succeed or fail in life on their own merits; the successful tend to enjoy an opulent (but moralistic) lifestyle, while the failures can be seen crowding out most jails.
The relatively small government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defense, and Healthcare. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 12.5%.
The very strong Borkpekan economy, worth 251 billion ßooties a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, with significant contributions from Beef-Based Agriculture, Pizza Delivery, and Information Technology. Average income is 50,336 ßooties, with the richest citizens earning 8.4 times as much as the poorest.
Crime, especially youth-related, is well under control, thanks to a well-funded police force. Borkpeka's national animal is the Weiscer, which can occasionally be seen sifting through garbage in the nation's cities.
