Valittaa ja Iloitsee (Lament and Rejoice) - The Anthem of Barboneia

Barboneia's anthem, "Valittaa ja Iloitsee" (Lament and Rejoice) was not created until after the country became a Commonwealth. Written in 1941 by Johannes Heiskanen, it was originally written in Barboneian Finnish and then translated to English. It was adopted as the official anthem of the Commonwealth in 1946. It reflects on both how the country became independent from Sweden in 1742, and how the country managed to unify into the Commonwealth in 1937. It is sung to the tune of LinkMaamme, the anthem of Finland.

Lyrics in Barboneian Finnish

Valittaa!

Kauan olemme kamppaillut

Jotta tämä maa olisi kotona

Paljon työtä tehtiin

Ja nyt täällä olemme

Iloita!

Yhdessä me olemme yksi

Kansa on vapaa

Ja Barboneia on voittanut!

Yhdessä

Yhdistynyt

Barboneia on yksi!

Lyrics in English

Lament!

Long we have struggled

To make this land our own

Much work was done

And now here we are

Rejoice!

Together we are one

The people are free

And Barboneia has won!

Together

United

Barboneia is one!
