The Protectorate of Altrius Station is a huge, orderly nation, remarkable for its rum-swilling pirates, public floggings, and restrictive gun laws. The hard-nosed, cynical, humorless, devout population of 398 million Alistians are ruled without fear or favor by a psychotic dictator, who outlaws just about everything and refers to the populace as "my little playthings."

The enormous, corrupt, moralistic, socially-minded, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Law & Order, and Administration. The average income tax rate is 76.8%.

The sizeable but sluggish Altrius Stationian economy, worth 15.8 trillion Gold Bars a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a large, well-organized, highly specialized black market in Trout Farming and Arms Manufacturing. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is 39,584 Gold Bars, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 4.9 times as much as the poorest.

Produce labels read 'may contain traces of food', warning signs caution Alistians where they may fall off 'the edge of the world', tie-dye has been outlawed for being 'too occult', and prisoners regularly escape detention posing as scarecrows. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Altrius Station's national animal is the Cow Bat, which soars majestically through the nation's famously clear skies.

Altrius Station is ranked 1,069th in the world and 1st in Entropy for Most Primitive, scoring 227.71 on the Scary Big Number Scale.
