ABSA announces new shuttle fleet
Written by Hilma Dawson

The Allinean Space Agency have announced a new generation of the Sipo shuttle-type spacecraft.

Johannes De Kloet, director-general of the agency, told reporters in a press conference earlier today that the new spacecraft, dubbed "the second-generation", would replace the existing "first-generation" Sipo shuttles starting in 2018.

Unlike current shuttles, the new Sipo spacecraft would depart from the familiar aeroplane-like form and will look closer to a conventional rocket, with a cylindrical body and a "massively" simplified design.

The first stage would propel the second stage, carrying the payload and with flaps on both sides to control the spacecraft during re-entry.

Both stages are to be re-useable.

Despite the simplified design, the new Sipo shuttles would be larger than the current generation, "closer in size" to the Allinburgia 3M rocket that took Allineans to the Moon in the 1980s.

The original Sipo spacecraft, named Archambault after Julius Archambault, first president of the modern Allinean republic, was first launched in 1995. Archambault, along with its four sister ships, have since transported many satellites, astronauts and components for the Unueco 2 space station and the International Space Station.
