In the aftermath of the Scythian War, the Alexzonyan Marine Corps. was forced to confront some difficult truths about the inadequacy of their combat doctrine; particularly, the problems that arose when the assumptions of orbital and air superiority were tested. However, effective solutions weren't realized until the Welded Conflict, when it was necessary to develop an entirely new military force, the Starfleet Auxiliary, from the ground up to combat this threat. The foreign equipment proposed and imported early on to arm the Auxiliary, especially from the Huerdaen Star Empire (Huerdae) finally gave the Marine Corps. direction in developing a new generation of vehicles.

Mimicking the Huerdaen Imperial Shield, the Marine Corps. vehicles are based on a series of modular chassis, with each having a number of variants to fulfill multiple battlefield roles. While the GRA continues their preference for gravtanks over the traditional tracked or wheeled varieties and their larger emphasis on light rather than heavy mechanized units, the echoes of the Huerdaen influence are clearly seen.

H8 Blazer II Chassis
The Blazer is a lightweight hover vehicle designed for police, paramilitary, and military use profiles. The original Blazer chassis was longer and designed as a competitor to the Fencer I. After failing in that role, the Blazer was drastically reworked as a significantly smaller light armored vehicle. Designed as a fully modular chassis, the Blazer can be assembled in a variety of configurations depending on user needs. The vehicle was originally intended to serve as a light personnel carrier, with a crew of 1 or 2 + 6 passengers. It also features a small forward-mounted turret that can be outfitted with a variety of weapons, though many of the vehicle's variants replace and/or relocate the turret.

Variants:

Blazer APC - The Blazer APC is the standard configuration for the Blazer II Chassis. It is first and foremost a light troop and logistics carrier and utility vehicle, and while it carries a light defensive armament, it was not originally intended to deploy directly into combat. Nonetheless,it carries a 25mm magnetic autocannon on a small forward turret for self-defense and fire support purposes.

Hurricane APC - The Tornado is a modified version of the Blazer chassis that replaces the standard autocannon with a 60mm turreted rapid-fire coilmortar. Capable of both direct and indirect fire, the mortar forgoes the typical Alexzonyan emphasis on velocity in favor of high-explosive and fragmentation damage. Submunition shells are also available, as are tandem-charge microfusion warheads for anti-vehicle duties.

Tsunami APC - The Tsunami is intended as a defense against enemy armored vehicles when friendly cavalry is unavailable or already engaged. Armed with a Fury Autoloading Missile Launcher mount, the Tsunami can fire 16 anti-tank missiles at a rate of 30 rounds per minute.

H12 Lynx Chassis
The Lynx is a joint project with the Fenvaria Republic to create a light fighting and reconnaissance vehicle. The Lynx is the GRA's first vehicle of its type since the ill-fated T9 Ocelot and will be Fenvaria's first mass-produced vehicle to use a gravitic drive system. The Lynx is a joint venture, and combines Alexzonyan technology with Fenvarian design expertise to create an excellent light vehicle. The gravitic drive system is a relatively minor scaling modification on the one used for the Blazer II; the vehicles are exactly the same width, but the Lynx is 0.8m longer. However, due to Fenvarian design input, the height of the Lynx has actually been reduced vis-a-vis the Blazer II despite being significantly more capable. Unlike other GRA vehicles, which use electronic motors driven by microfusion plants, the Lynx uses a dual-powerplant setup using two Fenvarian cylinder-driven fusion plants, each in a V8 configuration. This design increases the mechanical complexity, but gives the Lynx a higher top speed and service ceiling than most similar vehicles when both engines are in operation and adds a degree of mechanical redundancy. As a multinational project, the Lynx's turret is an exceptionally flexible, modular design capable of mount any of more than a dozen weapon systems from Alexzonya, Fenvaria, Huerdae, and others. A further Alexzonyan development on the Lynx up-armors the vehicle's hull to make the Lynx a vehicle more suited for direct engagement rather than only skirmishing and reconnaissance. The necessary modifications necessarily divides the Lynx chassis into two subtypes: the lighter and more agile H12A Lynx, and the heavier and better-armored H12B Caracal. The Lynx and Caracal vehicles, despite their more complex engine arrangement, are actually far simpler to fabricate than existing Alexzonyan designs due to the use of fewer small, nitpicky components in the structure and a reduced emphasis on maintaining aesthetic.

H11 Fencer II Chassis
The Fencer II chassis is a modular replacement for the Fencer I hover vehicle chassis. While the Fencer II carries over the spirit and approximate size of its predecessor, it is significantly heavier, with the base version carrying both more firepower and heavier armor systems that brings its capabilities more into line with the light frontline vehicles of other nations. Unlike the original Fencer, the Fencer II mounts its engine system conformally to the bottom of the hull.

Variants

Fencer II IFV - The Fencer II IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle) is a hybrid vehicle, carrying six GRA Marines into battle and then supporting them with its onboard weapons system. A turret mounted to the vehicle's midsection carries a 50mm magnetic autocannon and a Fury Autoloading Missile Launcher system; a pintle mount carries a 25mm high-traverse, long-barreled anti-aircraft gun mount.

Lancer LCV - The Lancer LCV (Light Cavalry Vehicle) is an upgunned variant of the Fencer II. It significantly increases the size of the turret and mounts a 90mm anti-vehicle magnetic cannon in place of the 50mm autocannon, increasing firepower at the expense of service ceiling and maximum speed.

Duelist ADV - The Duelist ADV (Air Defense Vehicle) is a specialized anti-aircraft artillery piece, sporting a long-barrelled 50mm Magnetic Autocannon, a multiple Reflex Shortbow Missile mounts optimized for engaging enemy aircraft, and a pair of multi-function sensors stations (one forward, one rear).

Bruiser Gun Carrier - The Bruiser Gun Carrier is a dedicated tank hunter and self-propelled gun platform, modeled after the Huerdaen Yokai-variant Kodiac. The Bruiser installs a 125mm magnetic cannon with limited horizontal but full vertical traverse into the Fencer II chassis, together with a high-traverse 25mm AA cannon that is used for general self-defense. This 125mm gun is dual-purpose; leveled to the horizon and fully powered, it makes a fearsome anti-tank artillery piece. With submunition shells or high-explosive munitions, the Bruiser can serve as medium artillery, lobbing its shells on a high ballistic trajectory to rain down on enemy forces.

Champion CCV - The Champion CCV (Command and Control Vehicle) is the 'brains' of the Fencer II family, featuring suites of communications and planning gear. It mounts a 25mm high-traverse AA cannon, but omits the other weaponry to make space for the command and control equipment as well as extra staff.

Atlas II LEV - The Atlas II LEV (Light Engineering Vehicle) is a light utility and engineering vehicle used by GRA Marine Corps engineers for transportation and light-duty tasks. While not a replacement for a full heavy engineering vehicle, the Atlas II is also significantly faster and cheaper. The Atlas omits the midsection turret from the Fencer II, and replaces it with a mediumweight crane and hoist system. Instead, two pintle mounted 25mm autocannons are carried, one each to the front and rear.

H7 Cobra Chassis
The Cobra Chassis is a medium gravtank chassis originally designed for the Cobra Heavy Infantry Fighting Vehicle. The GRA's answer to main battle tanks and heavy armored vehicles of other nations, the Cobra is intended for vehicles that are well-armed and well-armored. Unlike the Fencer I, which predated it by only a few years, the Cobra is equipped with conformal engine pods on the vehicle's belly.

Variants

Cobra III HIFV - The Cobra III HIFV (Heavy Infantry Fighting Vehicle) is a hybrid troop transport and general-purpose armored vehicle. Designed to match enemy main battle tanks, the Cobra III's turret mounted 105mm Magnetic Cannon is noticeably longer and has a thicker coil assembly than its older counterparts on the Cobra I and II, and thus fires with noticeably more kinetic energy (albeit with a longer capacitor reset between shots). A 25mm autocannon is mounted coaxial, with a second 25mm high-traverse autocannon mounted on the pintle atop the turret. The Cobra III can carry 10 Marines and their full load of equipment.

Cobra I HIFV - The Cobra I HIFV (Heavy Infantry Fighting Vehicle) is the original GRA medium armored vehicle of its generation, following the traditional GRA doctrine of combining combat capabilities and troop carriage. The vehicle mounts a 105mm Railcannon in a turret mounted in the front-middle of the hull, with a coaxial 25mm autocannon and 6 Recurve Shortbow Missiles. A secondary turret mounted to the rear carries another 25mm cannon in a high-traverse mount for anti-aircraft use. The main body of the Cobra I includes sufficient space for 10 passengers in a separate compartment from its crew of 3, although it is a somewhat tight fit for the infantry squad due to the space occupied by other vehicle systems and armor. The Cobra II was a short-lived update to older vehicles that replaced the 105mm cannon with a 90mm cannon and the recurve shortbow mounts with a fury autoloading missile system. Experimentally intended to improve the dueling capabilities of the Cobra I, in practice the Cobra II was found to be less effective, and production was quickly discontinued.

King Cobra MBT - The King Cobra MBT (Main Battle Tank) is a variation of the Cobra that replaces the troop carriage space with additional ammunition storage and more carrying weight for armor. The King Cobra mounts an anti-tank 125mm Railcannon with a 25mm coaxial cannon in the front-middle main turret, with a 25mm high-traverse AAA mount in a separate rear turret. The additional armor carried by the King Cobra makes it the most survivable vehicle on the H7 chassis. After faring poorly in head-to-head testing during the recent RFP, the King Cobra is no longer in production but remains in service pending replacement by the more capable H9 Paladin.

Mamba Heavy Gun Carrier - The Mamba Heavy Gun Carrier was intended as a heavy self-propelled artillery piece, carrying a heavy 155mm howitzer and a 25mm AA autocannon for self-defense. However, in practice the 125mm cannon on the Bruiser Gun Carrier was sufficient for most purposes, and the Mamba's weight and bulk (using the Cobra chassis) made it unsuitable for use outside of dedicated armored units. As a result, production of the Mamba has been discontinued, though the vehicles that were produced remain in service and have been allocated to armored units.

H9 Paladin Chassis

Variants

Paladin HIFV - The Paladin HIFV (Heavy Infantry Fighting Vehicle) is a new Alexzonyan armored vehicle designed to directly mass with the Huerdaen Goliath and other similarly heavy vehicles; where the Cobra III design specifications call for a gross weight of approximately 50 tons, the Paladin weights in at just over 90 tons. Much of the difference is accounted for by the Paladin's reinforced armor and shielding systems. Additional weight comes from the thickened gun barrel, which houses additional acceleration coils, and lengthened turret to accommodate an extended autoloader allowing for two shots in immediate succession. With a 125mm bore to retain compatibility with munitions from the Bruiser and King Cobra, the performance of the Paladin's primary gun (like the Bruiser) was approximately matched to the velocity obtained by the Huerdaen 120mm cannon mounted on the Yokai-variant Kodiac during testing by a Starfleet evaluation team. The Paladin additionally mounts a Fury autoloading missile system offset to the periphery of the turret, a coaxial 25mm defensive autocannon, and an additional 25mm high-traverse AA autocannon on the turret pintle mount. Like most Alexzonyan vehicles, the Paladin HIFV can carry Marines in a small rear compartment and their full loadout of combat gear; this is partially why the Paladin is marginally longer than many international counterparts.

W3 Salamander Chassis
The Salamander is the longest-serving chassis in GRA service, with its origins in an IFV used by the CoAS Confederal Marines on FB-1 Sol. After numerous changes to the powerplants and drive systems, the W3 chassis is indistinguishable as a successor to the original in anything but form: they share an eight-wheeled configuration and an approximately similar form factor. The Salamander was used primarily as an IFV, and the most recent generations have an armament very similar to that of the Fencer IFV, albeit without the newer Recurve Shortbow missile configuration and a lighter cannon. The decision to shift the long-serving Salamander to a reserve role and replace it with a clean-sheet design was controversial, but the last generation of the storied vehicles still serve with the Civil Defense Corps, and stand sentinel as the last line of defense of the Alexzonyan people.

H6 Fencer I Chassis
The Fencer chassis was the first gravitic vehicle that entered GRA service, as a replacement for a wide variety of light vehicle chassis. It was surprisingly effective for a first attempt, and has served admirably. Originally conceived as an IFV, the Fencer has since been adapted to a variety of other roles. One notable weak point of the Fencer is its exposed engine pods, which can act as magnets for incoming enemy fire; newer GRA designs mount their engines conformally to the belly of the grav vehicle. The original Fencer has since been replaced in new production by the Fencer II, though many H6 vehicles remain in service.

Variants

Fencer IFV - The Fencer is the original production version of the Fencer, now out of production and replaced by the newer variants. It carries a 25mm Autocannon and 4 individual launch mounts for Recurve Shortbow missiles. It has a larger troop compartment than the newer Fencer II chassis, holding ten Marines.

Atlas LEV - The Atlas LEV (Light Engineering Vehicle) is a light utility and engineering vehicle used by GRA Marine Corps engineers for transportation and light-duty tasks. While not a replacement for a full heavy engineering vehicle, the Atlas is also significantly faster and cheaper. The Atlas omits the midsection turret from the Fencer, and replaces it with a lightweight crane and hoist system. Instead, two pintle mounted 15mm automatic coilguns are carried, one each to the front and rear.

Mule Logistics Vehicle - The Mule Logistics Vehicle is the most barebones version of the Fencer chassis; it omits the weapons systems entirely, to make more space for material or troop carriage. The Mule has more internal space than the Blazer APC and is less expensive than the Atlas LEV, but the design is generally regarded unfavorably by the Marines as a "useless floating box". Subvariants with fireports or a weapons system were considered and discarded.

"Quixote" Fighting Vehicle - An unofficial modification performed on the Mule Logistics Vehicle, the Quixote is an improvised vehicle that mounts the turret and weapons systems from the defunct Ocelot Infantry Support Tank on the Fencer chassis' midsection. The Quixote thus sports a 57mm coilgun along with a 6mm coaxial machine rifle; the deficiencies of these weapons are expounded upon in detail in the section for the T9 Ocelot chassis. Given the unfavorable reception of the Mule in-service and the uselessness of the Ocelot, a blind eye has been turned towards the creation of Quixote variant Fencers by units expecting to enter combat zones.

T5 Viper Chassis
The T-5 Viper was the GRA's final main battle tank produced prior to the standard adoption of gravitic repulsor systems. An uninspired design, the Viper was an adequate iteration of armored design. Its armor sufficed for its role; it's 105mm railcannon was slightly underpowered for its class but ultimately effective enough. The T-5 was quite fast and maneuverable for a vehicle its size, partially a result of its smaller cannon and medium armor. It still arms GRA Civil Defense Corps. Heavy Cavalry elements, and could be called upon as part of a last-ditch defense of the Republic.

Key Specifications:

T9 Ocelot Chassis
The T-9 Ocelot, previous the Ocelot Infantry Support Tank or Ocelot Light Tank, is a hybrid disaster-of-an-armored-vehicle-and-cautionary-tale masquerading as a tank. The designs for the Ocelot were originally developed in FB-1, as part of a JSOC Factional Joint Project. The vehicle, designated by the GRA as the Ocelot, was to be a lightweight modular chassis, with low cost and high mobility as the largest priorities. The primary weapon was jointly chosen as a 57mm magnetic cannon. Coaxial and secondary weapon mounts were chosen by each nation; in the GRA's case, only a 6mm coaxial machine rifle was mounted. While the Ocelot was intended for use in a reconnaissance and scout cavalry role and performed adequately in that function for the other JSOC nations, the Alexzonyans elected instead to use it in an infantry support function, with its extremely low cost allowing it to be produced en-mass and attached in groups at the platoon level.

Problems arose immediately. The 57mm gun lacked armor penetration capabilities even when firing shaped-charge warheads, and its standard high-explosive warhead was too small a blast with inadequate fragmentation to be effective in the demolitions or anti-personnel roles. The 6mm Machine Rifle, essentially a belt-fed R-5 rifle with an integrated battery, quickly overheated in sustained fire if it didn't jam first. Meanwhile, the lightweight armor composites used on the Ocelot were entirely inadequate to safeguarding a tank, and in tests have proven vulnerable not only to 25mm and 50mm cannon fire from the GRA's newer armored vehicles, but also to 15mm armor-piercing shells from the AC5 Infantry Autocannon.

After being produced in quantities numbering in the millions, Alexzonyan military planners belated accepted the total inadequacy of the vehicle, which were quietly withdrawn from both frontline and reserve service and stowed in mothballs and under tarps, awaiting a time of such urgent need that even such vehicles might be needed...

However, with the advent of the Welded threat, some planners have become concerned that time may be coming. As such, the Starfleet has quietly initiated an upgrade program for it's T9 vehicles, upgrading them to the new T9v1 configuration. The v1 configuration replaces the 57mm tank cannon with a 25mm autocannon; while not an improvement in armor penetration, the autocannon dramatically improves rate-of-fire and makes the Ocelot useful in its original intended role of infantry fire support. Additionally, the 6mm Machine Rifle is omitted, and a pair of Recurve Shortbow missile mounts have been retrofitted to sides of the turret to provide long-ranged anti-tank capabilities.
