Shintuxien
leaving Fujing (福京) in the early morning.
Shintuxien (新主线, Xīn zhǔxiàn, lit. New Mainline) is the high-speed electric railway serving northern Akarea, funded by the Akarean Federal Council and operated by the RY Corporation. It was initially built to provide a fast, reliable transport connection between Akarea's capital city of Fujing (福京) and the relatively distant and difficult to reach city of Lao Shaodu (老首都), in order to aid economic growth in the north of the country during the economic boom in the 1950s. Since then, the route has been extended to the city of Haijing (海京), and multiple branch lines operated at lower speeds have opened to provide connections to smaller cities and towns. In the modern day, it is also used recreationally by citizens and tourists alongside businessmen. Within the Fujing metropolis, some RK-TASET branch lines act as a high-speed commuter rail network.
A member of the Shintuxien rolling-stock holds the world record for the fastest conventional (wheeled) train, reaching a speed of 433km/h in 2001, with a maximum operational speed of 400km/h. The network itself is designed for a maximum operational speed of 556km/h. Over the course of the network’s 32-year history, it has carried nearly 3 billion passengers, has never been more than seven minutes off-timetable, and has never been involved in a fatal accident - thanks to a myriad of engineering, bureaucracy and social engineering miracles. The Shintuxien is a major tourist attraction for Akarea and has become an icon for Akarean technological progress, especially during the 1980s.
