The Dictatorship of Aetionia is a small, safe nation, renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape, frequent executions, and compulsory military service. The hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 40 million Aetionians are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

The medium-sized, corrupt, moralistic, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Welfare, and Defense. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 40.5%.

The very strong Aetionian economy, worth 2.57 trillion guilders a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, with major contributions from Woodchip Exports, Automobile Manufacturing, and Information Technology. Black market activity is frequent. Average income is 64,281 guilders, with the richest citizens earning 5.5 times as much as the poorest.

Companies are turning to trained swans for their most menial jobs, innocent defendants often plead guilty for fear of receiving a much harsher sentence before jury, the military refers to helpless combatants offering surrender as "sitting ducks", and the Fashion Channel can only be viewed on widescreen TVs. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a very well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Aetionia's national animal is the swan, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.

Aetionia is ranked 131,962nd in the world and 3,640th in the South Pacific for Highest Economic Output, with 2.57 trillion Standard Monetary Units.
