Etymology

The name Adalzica comes from the Adalzican words adal meaning "common" and sika meaning "nation", due to Adalzican historically being a common language in the region, especially in maritime trade around the Gulf of Adalzica. The official name of Adalzica is Soikoerahi Adalsikau (pronounced [ˌsɛ.kɔ.ˈɛ.ri ˌa.ğaw.ˈsi.kɔ] in Standard Adalzican), literally meaning "Kingdom of Adalzica".

History

Early history
The first humans found in what is modern-day Adalzica were prehistoric peoples based based around the coast of the Gulf of Adalzica. Over time the Adalzican nation has taken the forms of many governments, one government, or under foreign governments.

Ancient Kingdoms
Adalzica's origins under a united governance began when King Utekiro united the ancient Adalzican tribes in the first century U.E. His line of succession eventually ended after almost 700 years, in 49 S.E., when Adalzica was conquered by [another kingdom, TODO], installing King Sormes I as its vassal leader. He and his three successors ruled for around 100 years before [kingdom from before, TODO] collapsed, leading to Adalzica collapsing into a group of smaller city states and duchies.

The Unification of Adalzica and the Old Kingdom
The states comprising the Adalzican people were most recently united by King Esuil the Great in 47 E.E., originally ruler of the Kingdom of Karoske. He created what is now known as the Old Kingdom of Adalzica, of which the capital was the city of Karoske. He reigned until 78 E.E., whence his son Esuil II reigned until his death in 101 E.E. The next king Loreka I was so unpopular that in 103 E.E., a democratic revolution took place, overthrowing the monarchy and creating the Republic of Adalzica.

The Republic
The Republic of Adalzica began as a liberal conservative democracy with limits on the government's power. During this period, the government was based in a new city: Kiroli, meaning capital. Its government slowly became more socialistic over time, until the year 42 L.E., when a candidate from the Communist Party was elected, sparking right-wing opposition to take up arms and beginning the Adalzican Civil War.

The Civil War
The Blueshirts, composed of monarchists, religious conservatives, and capitalists took up arms against the Whiteshirts, who were mainly those loyal to the original government: socialists, communists, as well others ideologically left of centre. Additional skirmishes occurred between both of the two main sides and the group less formally known as the Greyshirts, mostly ethnic minorities, liberals, and anarchists who attempted to slow down the military progress of both sides of the war. After many years of bloody battle, the war ended with the Blueshirts winning in 45 L.E., and a constitutional monarchy being installed: a compromise between the proposed absolute monarchy and republic made by the first king Batonk I.

The New Kingdom
As time progressed, the power of Adalzica's monarchy became increasingly weaker and instead more ceremonial, granting more power to the people and their elected leaders. In 114 L.E., a new government leader was elected, William Roony of the National Action Party, to some extent utilizing this weakness to institute a one-party dictatorship, with no monarchical opposition.

Annexation of Adalzikrai
The borders of Kogskinogska have lied over the region of Adalzikrai, an area of the state containing a significant amount of ethnic Adalzicans. After the region was made autonomous by the government of Kogskinogska, a treaty between their government and Adalzica was drawn to create an independent state of Adalzikrai. After around four weeks, this state was officially annexed by Adalzica after a referendum.

Adalzica is home to 85.56 million people, with a population density of 229 inhabitants per square kilometre. The life expectancy, overall, is 79.1 years (75.1 for males and 83.0 for females). The average fertility rate of Adalzica is 1.86 children born per woman, below replacement levels, however a significant increase from previous years. This is likely due to policies from William Roony such as taxing birth control and fully abolishing abortion.

Ethnicity
While 94.5% of the population are considered ethnically Adalzican, ethnic minorities exist, particularly from the nearby nations of Kogskinogska and Soyix. Kogskinogskans, as a whole, make up 3.1% of the population of Adalzica. 1.3% of the population are Soyixan. Adalzica is also home to a smaller minority of Arkingtonins, mainly concentrated on Kinton Island, and making up 0.7% of the population of Adalzica.

Within the Adalzican language, there exists a point of contestion. In the region of the North Duin, a variant of Adalzican exists that is different enough to be at most partially mutually intelligible. The official stance of language regulatory bodies in Adalzica is that this is a non-standard dialect of Adalzican, however separatist groups in the North Duin, as well as some overseas institutions, consider it a separate language entirely. Staistics are not recorded on this difference due to North Duinian being considered part of Adalzican.
