The United Republic of Avinis is a mammoth, safe nation, ruled by Supreme Chancellor Elizabeth Chance with a fair hand, and remarkable for its otherworldly petting zoo, irreverence towards religion, and punitive income tax rates. The compassionate, democratic, cheerful population of 5.456 billion Avinians are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whomever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.

The large, outspoken government juggles the competing demands of Education, Administration, and Welfare. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Protecta. The average income tax rate is 93.1%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The frighteningly efficient Avinian economy, worth 769 trillion credits a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. The industrial sector is led by the Tourism industry, with major contributions from Information Technology, Book Publishing, and Furniture Restoration. Average income is an impressive 140,993 credits, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Fifteen-year-olds cannot walk younger siblings to school without a professional Childcare and Education Certificate, friendly revolutionaries are the nation's greatest export, the Avinian government is the world's largest NGO, and diplomats agree to the terms and conditions of peace treaties without reading them. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown. Avinis's national animal is the orca, which is also the nation's favorite main course.

Avinis is ranked 324,109^th in the world and 1^st in Avinisland for Largest Trout Fishing Sector, scoring -12.07 on the Nemo Depletion Efficiency Index.
