The Autonomous Communes of Ariddia is a behemoth, socially progressive nation, ruled by James Johnson with a fair hand, and notable for its museums and concert halls, multi-spousal wedding ceremonies, and devotion to social welfare. The compassionate, democratic, cheerful, devout population of 50.95 billion Ariddians are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whomever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.
The large, socially-minded, outspoken government juggles the competing demands of Environment, Education, and Welfare. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Rêvane. The average income tax rate is 99.5%.
The enormous but sluggish Ariddian economy, worth a remarkable 3,528 trillion Ariddian credits a year, is driven almost entirely by government activity. The industrial sector is mostly comprised of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is 69,250 Ariddian credits, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.
Courtrooms can be a little sketchy, fixing attendance at women's matches is a matter of "when they go low, we go high... funding", people with dyslexia are told to tough through it, and tourists need only sign on the dotted line to become citizens. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a very well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Ariddia's national animal is the platypus, which frolics freely in the nation's sparkling oceans.
Ariddia is ranked 63,549th in the world and 2nd in Snootland for Most Extensive Civil Rights, with 72.5 Martin Luther King, Jr. Units.
