Is regional football a NationStates role-playing activity? My nation has no football/soccer team to speak of.

Colorado

Ah. Football? That's still a thing? Deary me.

I'm an unabashed sports enthusiast from an early age but I don't get the point of this particular activity.

It is twenty years since civl war wiped out half of our population in 1995 I am holding a service to pay your respects just like or respond to this message

Never could see the point of it all, personally. I quite like the idea of skiing and track & field, but formalised team activities tend to leave me cold. Not that I can't admire a top-level match in say, Rugby Union (I recall a scintilating confrontation between the AllBlacks and the Barbarians), but it's more an admiration of supreme skill and technique rather than a passion for the game itself. Cricket sends me into a coma. Football .... dear god. Any team from Dioxin would most likely be in synchronised gardening. Our Formation Mulching would be the envy of all.

Unfortunately, I was unable to investigate the Tajikistan civil war before Tajmikistan departed. While the conflict certainly had many casualties, as most civil wars do, nowhere near half the population was "wiped out".
As for the service to pay respects. What type of service did he have in mind? How does he expect anyone to respond if he leaves the region several hours after the posting? Perhaps the move from a region titled Unity of Green Pastures to one titled the Revolutionary Council is appropriate.

Our local rugby team is the Gentlemen, hosts of the annual Aspen Ruggerfest. I tried to learn the basics of cricket while in Germany but Douglas Adams blew it all to Hell for me, thankfully.

Indeed, Farewell Tajmikistan. Their presence was swiftly over, much, I assume, like their war. I trust the dear departed have gone to a better place.

Unfortunately, in Australia, one is expected to laud all forms of sport. To announce publically one's preference for high opera is to court social ostracisation. Oh, the humanity.

Just a little curious as to why Culture has been sampled 3 times over the last 10 days. In my several years of watching the game's ebb and flow this is the first time I've seen a census repetition of more than twice in a short period.
My interpretation of the "Sports Culture" in America is based on the ancient Greek city states. We avoid taking on direct confrontation over our sociopolitical differences from state to state by utilizing the stylized warfare of modern sport. Crude and economically skewed but it provides a stable platform for the release of social tensions in a mostly controlled burst of mob mentality behavior.

As to the vagaries of NS, I have no clue. In the very early days when we had an initial 30 issues (yes, a mere 30), there was always repetition, but not so much of late. I would not be surprised to discover the Powers That Be have recently tweaked the servers more than once, each tweak resetting the current algorithm so that certain options reiterate.

Sports + Culture? An oxymoron, surely? But yes; any socially condoned outlet for the uncontrollable passion is to be endured, I suppose, though blood and circuses have never really been my particular thing.

Post by Sereny suppressed by a moderator.

Now that is interesting. First time I've seen a moderator suppress a post. Must have been an awfully worded message.

Colorado

Indeed. I never even saw it, so I've no idea. I wonder if it happens everywhere he/she goes?

~ Melbourne

Apparently, yes. From the little history I could uncover, the nation has been flitting between as many regions as they could, staying only just long enough to lodge a message and then go. I saw dozens of nations on the list. In each case, the message has been suppressed by a Mod. One wonders why the account is still extant, in that case.

Middle of May and we are still going through late Winter/early Spring conditions up here. The flowering trees were almost a month ahead of schedule and now the flowering shrubs are almost a month behind. Early iris are blooming with late season iris and off course hummingbirds are eating from my feeders. Looks like my annual climb of Mt. Sopris is going to be much later this year with all the snow still falling at elevation. It will be one hell of a run off this year. Grab the kayak and a life vest during the day and enjoy the outdoors fireplace later on in the evening. Hope all is well as Autumn slowly fades to Winter in your hemisphere.

Colorado

It was less of a fade and more of a blitzkrieg. One day 28C, the next 10C and snow. Bizarre.

I'm usually up early but you are up a little late this evening? It is interesting to watch the ebb and flow of NationStates as a whole and at the regional level. Now that the Summer recess has arrived in the States we should see an drop off in the nations that are left behind in the classrooms. Getting ready for my least favorite month of the year. Too many important people, to me, have died in June and I find myself in a funk at the end of it all year after year. Going to do a lot of outside work in the yard and get a good hike in every day to be stronger at the end of it this year. A new business opportunity is presenting itself and I'm taking a long hard look at the situation so hiking through the mountains should help the process.

I have been doing a great deal of writing recently, much of it in the small hours. It's that time of semester when an academic's work is never done. Additionally, I have about fourteen critical deadlines in my diary to get through before I can down tools and take a breather. Once through this though, the rest of the year should be relatively calm water. (Ha. Who am I kidding?). Double-shot espresso and keep them coming ...

~ Melbourne

I'm considering dropping my World Assembly membership and want to make sure it doesn't jeopardize your position as the region's delegate. Double-shot espressos go down a little too easy and then, next thing you know, I've done some sort of crazy thing to the house or yard. Bad espresso machine, bad machine!

Colorado

Hiya - yes, if you do decide to drop it, I think my endorsement goes out the window - or maybe not. I really don't mind - it's not your job to worry about what happens to me. Don't be concerned; I've got this region set up in such a way that nobody who comes in can deliberately mess with it - I've been raided too many times to let that happen again. So please feel entirely free to do what seems best for your nation, and we can deal with any fallout later, if there is any. Large jug of Margarita and a straw.

Cheers,
