The only atom bombs used in war were Little Boy, a uranium atom bomb, and Fat Man, a plutonium atom bomb. It's scary to think about these sorts of things, but we have to to understand our world. In time, a plan called MAD came up. It stands for Mutually Assured Destruction. That means that if, say, the USSR fired missiles at the US, the US would also launch missiles at the USSR, resulting in the destruction of both countries and the world. Needless to say, no one wanted to end humanity as we know it, so the nukes became more of deterrents than anything, so, in a sense, the greatest weapons of war eventually brought the world to not exactly peace, but better than war.
