Aloha! It's wonderful to be back here! I've been gone much to loooonnnggg.....
Welcome!
Hey, I'm from Melbourne, Australia and we many schools from different faiths. We have the largest Jewish School in the world (Mt. Scopus) and around 3 Islamic Colleges. Not to mention that 20% of students are enrolled in the Catholic School System and that most of the Grammar Schools are from the Uniting Church and Anglican Church. You can not let one incident harm your perception of students at a school. Think of it like this, the IRA, although terrible in the suffering they caused, does not provoke the same reaction to all Catholics as what is currently happening in Paris and people of the Islamic faith. Let us remember what Jesus said about 'the other.' We are to love our neighbour and remember that when pressed as to who our neighbour is, Jesus used the radical example of 'the Samaritan.' To a Jew, the idea of a 'good' Samaritan seemed an oxymoron. Not to Jesus though. Jesus calls us to love and accept no matter what we may label people as or see them on the outside. Gwrrrrr, enjoy your basketball game and say hello to the people you play against. They are probably hurting inside by what has happened and are expecting judgement. You may just make their day (and your) with a smile. And of course muslims run their own faith schools. Just like Christians run their own faith schools.
If you bless the victims in Paris, you must also bless the victims in Lebanon and Syria who were also civilians murdered by ISIS. Oh, and they're Muslim too.
I don't mean to be rude, but I hate it when people do stuff like this. They treat tragedies like a hipster would. "Pray for these people and what happened to them. You haven't heard about it? That's probably because you don't care. Only certain people know about it." Seriously people, if I want to talk about and pray for one tragedy, let me; don't tell me who I can and cannot bless. Sorry, that was my rant for the day.
I'm sorry that you took that personally. The idea is that it's hypocritical to mourn one tragedy when there are multiple tragedies caused by the same problem (and organization in these cases), especially when you take into account the greater sociopolitical situation between France and the Muslim world in general. It's not like these attacks were all that randomized.
Here's a good article on this troubling topic:
