I love Canada. Canada's like the old girlfriend who was always smarter than you, and more generous than you, and more patient than you, and who still smiles and treats you right when she sees you even though you never deserved her.

You're implying that I like Harper. None of us like Harper. But I also hate Trudeau.

Look buddy, I didn't coin the term feminazi. However, if I don't use such a label, people don't understand what I'm talking about. When I say "feminist(s)", some uninformed or misguided people think I'm referring to a group that I am not, in fact, referring to.

Newburia wrote:You keep suggesting that I'm insulting her because she's a woman or something, but that's not the case. She is incompetent (and again, that's not because she's female, damnit!) yet got the role because "diversity".

And again, as Fratt demonstrated, you can't say at all that she got her role due to being a woman.

She may have gotten it due to being well-liked by Trudeau, or factionally powerful, or having maybe allies in caucus, or regional considerations, or whatever else.

Whether or not gender was a consideration at all in deciding on Trudeau's cabinet, she may have gotten her frontbench role. You can't show that it had anything to do with her being a woman.

Unfortunately, if you keep replying to those who have been far more convincing than you (frattastan, LR) with "You're missing the point!" there won't be any point in arguing against you.

Even more unfortunate is that you haven't withdrawn and apologised for your use of the term 'feminazi'. I don't particularly like being compared to those who murdered most of my family.

From my personal experience, affirmative action and quotas in politics have actually increased competence. Incompetent men are good at shutting more competent women out of the political game. This happens all the time here in Australia (especially on the conservative side of politics) where a woman loses preselection or a Ministerial spot to a less competent man.

So yay for AA.

Repeating yourself isn't making your point any more correct, mate. Peace out.

The term is absurd though. The literal meaning of such a portmanteau is a white supremacist, fascist feminist. I have a sneaking suspicion the people you've applied such a name to, are neither white supremacists nor fascists. Certainly not Trudeau nor Joly. They're liberals who are advocating to see women represented equally in the seat of power in our country, they're not advocating fascism, persecuting minorities or persecuting men, they're not advocating concentration camps or a holocaust. There is simply no justification for invoking such harsh language to describe a dude who wants his team to be half dudes and half, erm, dudettes. It doesn't pose a threat to your well being or anyone else's well being.

And Canadian politics no less.

Who would have believed such drama would occur in a country that didn't achieve full sovereignty until 1982.

White supremacists, no. Fascists? Quite possibly. https://youtu.be/hkhUivqzWv0

Also, yes they are advocating concentration camps. https://youtu.be/Y1JQUG7doCE

The repatriation of the constitution was largely a technical matter in 1982, despite the pomp. The greater achievement of the 1982 constitutional amendments was the creation and inclusion of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms into the Canadian constitution (a more empowered form of Diefenbaker's bill.) It was a modern document that encapsulated the full scope of contemporary rights and freedoms. America on the other hand hasn't fully ratified the Equal Rights Amendment yet. Boo.

Well we can't now, the deadline expired on June 30, 1982 and the proposed amendment has been rendered most moot.

Besides, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. A Constitution amendment that essentially does the same thing, but only on the basis of sex, is pretty silly and probably unneeded.

You know, I will say this: Even if Justin Trudeau did appoint 15 female cabinet members, what can we do about it, except argue? And I would like to say that you go there, to the position that Trudeau is in, Newburia, and we will see what you do. There might be reasons for why Trudeau appointed female members. Although as much as I am shamed to admit it, seeing as I am a man, people have their capabilities, and some women just have more capabilities and talent that some men. Trudeau might have that in mind while appointing. Or there could be another reason. But whatever the reason, it isn't like we can go up to Trudeau and demand him to take out the women, can we? This is my opinion on this and I hope this solves this problem...but on another thought, this is the most liveliest discussion we have had since last week. :P

Sounds like my wife : )

For me, New Zealand, Canada, and Sweden were always the top three countries everybody was talking positively about. Don't spoil my illusions now, please.

Any of our favorite rejects have any thoughts on the new nation creation process?

I won't spoil any illusions then. All I'll say is Sweden from the way things are going, will not be on that list in 5-10 years time.

Meh... That Science Advisor question has come back to bite me again.
Last time I picked the first, unintuitive option, and it didn't have the effect I was after.
This time I picked the intuitive option... the only thing that could possibly then raise my industries... but instead it catastrophically dropped them.
This is ridiculous. The other two options are completely unacceptable. One is ridiculous regressive left nonsense and the other is ridiculous religious nonsense. I'm guessing the next time that Science Advisor issue comes up I'll have no choice but to dismiss it.

The church of satan

The new process sounds nice. I'll have to look into it next time I create a nation. :D
