- A Regional role play estate dinner will be held starting on or about June 3rd.

Hey all. Albrook of Glorious Nations of Iwaku here. I thought I'd take up after you guys and do some Featured Region Touring myself.

Stuff I plan to do, and how my region review system works:

Flag credit: Linkideolo

Mission: To study the featured regions of NationStates, to compile a system for studying their history, and to communicate findings from each region to improve regions around the world.

~-----~
Our Review System:

Community - The overall feel of the region from a standard viewer. This category will base off player presence, player friendliness, and how well the new player fits in. This will be scaled from 1-10.

(RP Regions Only) Writing Quality - Determines the quality of the various roleplays by a roleplay region. This category will include writing style, the beauty of the writing and it's supplemental elements (pictures, etc.), activity, and roleplay etiquette (presence of god-modding, etc.). This will be scaled from 1-10.

(GP Regions Only) Effectiveness – Determines the quality of the region's military of a region that is aligned in Gameplay, on a region created for the sole purpose of engaging in the R/D Game. This category will include the success rating, the importance of the regions raided/defended, and the reputation of the region on the international scale. This will be scaled from 1-10.

Government – Some governments are particularly oppressive in regions, while others are relaxed or non-existant. This category will note on how much the government intervenes in standard regional life. It will include the government size (citizen:official ratio), government effectiveness, and presence of a government in the first place (will only include WA Delegate and Founder). To avoid bias, the result of this section will give the government a category (Anarchy will be reserved for no government and an inactive or unhappy populace).

Name and Beauty – The quality of the regional flag, WFE, and other custom features of a region that will be one of the first things a nation will see. This section will also include the region's name, as a concept for the region (such as how New Gensokyo is for Touhou fans). This section is based on appeal and truthfulness of the custom fields. This will be scaled from 1-10.

The overall score will be determined by the average of the Community, Writing Quality, Effectiveness, N&B, and Government effectiveness (ONLY the stat) scores. This score will be a recommendation of how much this region should be recommended to the international community in it's current state.

Concept (Estimated): Isolationist For-Friends Region

Summary: The West Atlantic was lucky enough to be featured twice before. Once on 2/27/08 and another time on 9/13/11. It is clear that this region is quite old.

The West Atlantic appears to be an Isolationist For-Friends Region. Meaning, it is very separate from the international community and is a very small community of nations that are likely friends and have other means of communication. That being said, the RMB activity is quite low, which is why I could easily find the previous feature dates. A new player entering this region might not exactly get the entire NS experience from inside the confines of an inactive region meant for a circle of friends.

Upon further analysis, the government has been busy in banning people that aren't friends entering the region. Half way through reviewing, I found a banning of someone who simply wished the region good job for being featured. Entrance might not be possible into the region. A shame.

Review:

COMMUNITY (1 out of 10) - The community is almost non-existant in the region. Upon checking all of the latest government activities of all of the nations, all of them were near a week inactive. A new player trying to fit into the region will have trouble trying to get someone to notice them, for there is nobody to greet them and make them feel welcome. 1/10 for the benefit of the doubt for possibly being a friends' region.

GOVERNMENT (Exclusive Circle) – There are no real leaders or followers in this region. Every member appears to be equal, such as it is, and someone just had to found the region. I was almost about to give this a pretty good rap for what it is until I found out that another featured region puppet was banned, which makes me think that this region is against having other nations that aren't them in it – hence Exclusive in Exclusive Circle.

NAME AND BEAUTY (3 out of 10) – The name doesn't make a whole lot of sense for the region. While it is understandable that it bases it's name off of The West Pacific, a GCR, and that the Pacific regions don't relate to their name much at all – is is evident that the founder just made the name to say they had a name. The WFE is one line long. The only redeeming aspect is the flag, which is the eye of a colossal squid - which at least meets the Atlantic part of the name. 3/10 for the relevant flag.

And the Hina Kagiyama Overall Featured Region Score is 1 out of 10. This region is really meant for people that know the founder, and should probably be behind a password. It's evident that not a lot of work is put into this region, but whatever floats the boats of the nations inside that would likely be as active as they are any other place. Keep in mind that this review wasn't so worried about the fact that they were just an “oh so evil Isolationist” region, but that they expected others – from the bannings – to know that they were and to stay out.

Presence of Delegate: No
Presence of Auxiliary Government Bureaus: Existent, but where?
Concept (Estimated): RP Group

Summary: Alaran peri quan preciad is a FT:STL, FaT, PMT region (acronyms extended above) that was formerly surging in activity since it's start in RP around 2 years 5 days ago (around July 6, 2012) and 1 year 59 days ago (May 13, 2013). The reason for making them down as STL is becaue the only recorded fastest ship speed for the founder of this region is 3.1million miles per hour While the WFE claims there is a regional government, I still am yet to find evidence that there ever was more than the Executive Officer – which is the founder.

The RPs of this region feature STL starships, D&D-style races in an adventure to save Altryca, and the command of nations in an ancient post-modern world. In fact, those are all three of the RPs that I could find evidence of in this region's RMB. For what they are, they are quite well written with a good amount of backstory. The replies are quite nice, especially the replies of one nation that noted attacks and defenses as well as damage taken in the space RP.

Overall, the region seems to be an RP group expanded beyond people in the founder's comfort zone, as there was near no activity at the start and activity only really began after someone was questioned about a recruiter puppet. Had it of stayed active longer, it might have been a contender with other RP groups of today.

Review:

COMMUNITY (3 out of 10) – It appeared that a community was formerly in place, and quite a good one actually noting the quality of some of the RP writing – which will be reviewed more in detail in my next category. The player friendliness was quite good, seeing as there were a few bits of friendly trolling going on. However, with the populace being nonexistant for over a year – the average new player travelling among the Featured Regions won't find a lot of people to talk to here. 3/10 for having a third of the criteria.

WRITING QUALITY (9 out of 10) – Some of the regional RPs that I gave this region credit for weren't originally from the region, but no matter. This region showed very sophisticated writing quality in roleplay to make them look good on the international scale. 9/10 for a regional history of excellent writing.

GOVERNMENT (Monarchy) – Some cases of post suppression and banning shows that the government, which is only the Founder, was mainly looking out for his region. The only people that ever got punished were people who deserved it, or friends he was just kidding around with. An ideal way to run a region of this size.

NAME AND BEAUTY (7 out of 10) – While unsure of what exactly the name means, I threw it into Google Translate to come up with “Alaran dangerous when Preciado” which sounds cool as hell. Don't get these guys Preciado!

Yeah, the regional flag is the same as the founder's flag. Which is ok, but it doesn't exactly make that much sense to the region, and isn't explained much for the Founder's nation as well. I do like how it tries to have a motto on the tag, similar to a line from Chrono Trigger: “This is the eternal kingdom of Zeal, where dreams can come true. But at what cost?”

Unlike The West Atlantic though, which was yesterday's featured region, at least this region put a little bit of effort into their RMB. 7/10, which is above average, for a good try.

And the Hina Kagiyama Overall Featured Region Score is 7. This region has great history, which unfortunately doesn't exist too much anymore, and an active founder that can probably bring it all back if he tries hard enough. The region looks appealing enough to attract players if it needs to and might have a shot at a second attempt at the world. But remember: They're dangerous when Preciado.

Concept (Estimated): Government Roleplay Region

Summary: The Federation of Dethklok 1000 looks a lot like what my home region looked like before it's first recruitment campaign, if you take off the government part. It's concept is large enough to be appealing to most players of NS.

From the WFE, you can see the large amount of links this region has. Some links are more useful than the rest, like the Blog that only has the welcome post. In the regional tags and the RMB, it's clear that this is a Roleplay region. I've updated this part here about the military, and my reason for doing so is under the Effectiveness category below; the military is indeed present, but you really have to know someone to find out information about it. However, once you do know, you will find out that it is a joint effort with other regions to defend. Swell!

A rare sight is a featured region that's actually active enough to know they're featured before any of us Followers get there, but that's the most activity I've seen from them since I arrived. They're kind of active at times and they're kind of not too. On the plus side, they have a cool roleplay time system. Happy July 12th 2021, everyone!~

Review:

COMMUNITY (5 out of 10) – Yeah, they're no powerhouse when it comes to activity. I held off making this review for as long as I could to give them time to answer regarding the military, but I have things to do before my trip tomorrow and can't wait any longer.

Update: I have received information, from an advisor that happened to log on. EFFECTIVENESS category was updated, but I will remain the COMMUNITY stat the same.

A new player won't have much difficulty getting into the region during a stroke of activity. However, since I came while there wasn't any, I'll give them an average grade because I at least know it's there. 5 out of 10.

WRITING QUALITY (4 out of 10) – Yeah, there's not a whole lot of evidence of sophisticated roleplay with this region. Whatever I did find was just really big paragraphs with way too many things in them. The events don't godmod, but they're pretty random. That being said, the writing isn't really that beautiful and lacks supplemental elements to make it stand out, so here comes the below average score of 4 out of 10.

EFFECTIVENESS (5 out of 10) – This was originally a 0 out of 10, until I was notified by a regional official that my assumptions I have made due to a lack of content was incorrect. Thanks to Fioreto for the factcheck!

This region works in joint association with a larger region, The Republic Nations. When I questioned where exactly the military of this region was, I was told that it is in an undisclosed puppet storage region. I'll then assume half credit for the military size category, and half credit for the rest due to often participating in join defenses. There is nothing wrong with this process, but my criteria for the EFFECTIVENESS category assumes the region can stand on it's own. With enough time though, this region could grow or annex smaller regions to provide growth to the regional military.

GOVERNMENT (Left-Leaning Republic) – After reading the regional history on their NSWiki page, I was made aware that most of the history orbits around two WA Delegates: Yulis and Dubem. Yulis wrote the history in obvious bias of itself, while Dubem seems to be portrayed as a corrupt delegate who didn't feed the moderators the right kind of food.

The government is quite comprehensive, and appears to use a Legislature position that makes the wants of the region reflect on only 6 people's ideas. On the plus side, they are elected, so I guess that makes it ok. Still, I've never seen a regional congress actually work and the region doesn't show off much of it working.

Still, it is a fairly comprehensive government that let's people know what they're doing quite well, but doesn't give that much emphasis on the common man. (source: Constitution)

NAME AND BEAUTY (6 out of 10) – Like with The West Atlantic, one of the redeeming features of this region would be it's custom fields...sort of. The regional flag doesn't make that much sense with the region, as far as I can tell. In fact, a much cooler banner can be seen on their forums that looks a million times cooler and states their region's name on it.

Compare with regional flag

The WFE tries to stay small, but it's apparent that they tried to fit as much as they could into it before hitting the limit. Usually, with that many links, it would be beneficial to make a link repository dispatch, but I won't take off for that. Still, it wouldn't make much sense to have the heads of the government on the WFE if you have a dispatch for the government anyway.

The NS++ newspaper got this region the majority of the points it got though. Almost all of my information regarding the Tech Level and intimate history of the region.

And the Hina Kagiyama Overall Featured Region Score is 5 out of 10. These guys are average on the international scale to me. The activity is obviously follows Toramaru Theory (If and only If the delegate and founder are posting, then others will be posting) that regions long to grow out of. Their newspaper looks great, and let's you know things you want to know about the region. However, their government sounds like a pretty scary place if you're the delegate being thrown out of office. For a region that roleplays, this region just isn't something I'd write a play about.

Concept (Estimated): Government Roleplay

Summary: Kingdom of Ireland, like a few regions I have looked at before, has had it's time in the spotlight as a Featured Region before. This was featured once, around two years ago.

The first message in the RMB shows that the founder does CTE sometimes, and the few national happenings logs I could find does show a case of refounding. Raiders had already taken advantage of this, given how the name for the founder in NS++ is 'Failure'.

At first, the region doesn't appear to have much of a roleplay scene. To find it, you have to actually go to the regional forums – where you can find some half decent roleplay in what appears to be the General section.

Another case, similar to my review of The Federation of Dethklok 1000, of the forum banner looking way cooler than the flag of the region. Of course, all it is is 5 pictures stuck together – but still, the picture of Dublin Castle in there is at least more appealing.

Review:

COMMUNITY (1 out of 10) – Instead of a standard greeting, the first thing I read once I entered the region was “I beleve that this region is now considered inactive.” With the typo. I was also asked to make a new region with the guy that said that, which was pretty weird since I already am the delegate of Glorious Nations of Iwaku. Looking down the list, it's apparent that the populace apparently doesn't care too much for the region anymore.

I didn't get any correction or reassurance that this nation was a new nation until now. This tells two things: One, the native populace isn't active enough to get to doing something about doomsayers/conspiracy guys fast enough, and that from first glance this region can be represented by a completely outside power. 1 for correcting me.

WRITING QUALITY (7 out of 10) – Checking out the regional RP that they had was pretty cool. Many of the posts were long and had a lot of detail, dialog, and decent grammar. Some of the posts were pretty weird, like dialog being in different colors, and one was just a copy-paste of the NS information for a nation. 7 for above average quality.

GOVERNMENT (Anarchy) – Back to the guy that wanted me to make a region with him. From what he said, it's apparent that the region “is dead”, as he says, and also implies that the government isn't doing much about it. Which is understandable, seeing that the founder CTE'd already and got the region taken by raiders, and that the delegate is non-executive. Consider this a 0 in this category.

UPDATE: The only action taken regarding the government at this point is yelling at me for talking about this guy. Swell. Still holding the 0.

NAME AND BEAUTY (6 out of 10) – This region does try for the whole Irish feel, which is pretty cool. The various parts of government are named after Irish things, it seems. I'm guessing the flag is some kind of Irish-inspired thing, but I'm not really sure what the Irish have to do with harps. As said earlier, their picture of Dublin Castle would of worked much better:

The above average score of 6/10 for fitting the theme!

And the Hina Kagiyama Overall Featured Region Score is 3. This region obviously never really took off, and had only really a roleplay scene and pretty features. The community didn't even exist until the founder died, and there's talk of people wanting to leave and found their own regions. I would have ranked this higher, but there isn't much of a community to swim with there anymore, which is two-thirds of what a region is.

Concept (Estimated): RP Group

Summary: The Coalition of Psychlo States has always been a small roleplay group. The amount of talk in the region, wherever it is, shows evidence of some thought collection before starting an RP and no talk inbetween. In fact, a post that I dug up shows that the founder actually would rather region mates telegram each other about personal matters. Ouch.

I question the government's (lack of) action against a spammer in the region, where the only order given was for the region to not discuss personal matters on the RMB. Punish the region and not the offender, riiiiight?~

Anyway, onto something else. Throughout the RMB, you can find links to the various RPs the region had before. I found three RPs of theirs, each from different time periods, and an implication that another Past Tech RP existed as well.

The professionalism of the WA Delegate bothers me a bit. The only time I see him in the RMB he was cussing out someone for...uh..yeah. He was cussing out someone around three months ago, and has only a few posts since then. However, this was a rare occasion where the founder was the first to reach me and offered help writing this review if I needed it. Props to the founder!

Review:

COMMUNITY (5 out of 10) – I'm actually giving this community an average score because there is no chemistry going on between the players at all. Every post is either about an ongoing RP, an advertisement for the regional RP, or “spam” that dared to talk about personal life. While I will admit that the one person to bother breaking the fourth wall was spamming, the simple act of referencing something outside of the RP got the region more than the act of spamming. Without individuality, the community is only half as good as it can be. 5.

WRITING QUALITY (5 out of 10) – This region was given an average ranking as well due to a blatantly obvious use of god-modding in this RP. The ender of the RP showed little respect for the other people in the RP. Also, one RP just suddenly ends on an OOC note. The writing quality is fine, and it does use it's share of supplemental elements, but that god-mod yo.

GOVERNMENT (Authoritarian Democracy) – The people get what they want, as long as they are not who they are. I'm actually using the NS term for “Semi-Populism” because it makes more sense – the region is fairly populist and democratic when it comes to planning out their RPs, but one of the rules for the RMB is “No personal information”, which included someone asking about Minecraft and Skype.

NAME AND BEAUTY (8 out of 10) – There is obvious emphasis on the novel Battlefield Earth (Novel: 1982; Film: 2000), including the flag being a movie poster, and a quote from the story featured in the RMB.

The Psychlo is an alien race from the story as well. All of this is really only identifiable if you have read the book or watched the film. Still, this is a very good example for a region with emphasis on Battlefield Earth fans. However, I have deducted a point since the whole thing about it being about a sci-fi film and mainly focusing on PT RP is pretty weird.

And the Hina Kagiyama Overall Featured Region Score is 5. The average new player will have difficulty getting into the region. Individuality is restricted to telegrams, and all one can find in the RMB is strictly talk related to the RP at hand. The RP is only average in quality due to the god-mod incident, and informal abandonment of the RP.

A redeeming aspect would be the region's, upon first sight, allegiance to Battlefield Earth. It definitely does appeal to the fans, but probably not more than that.

Thedas

Hina Kagiyama Featured Region Surveys - Thedas
Yes Vernafer, it doesn't have a flag. I know.

WFE Text:
Thedas is a continent in the southern Hemisphere, and the only known continent of the Dragon Age universe, upon which all of the Dragon Age games are set. It is presumed that there are other continents, as the Qunari do not originally come from Thedas but from a unknown land across the Northern Ocean. According to some sources, the humans also came from the north.

The word "Thedas" originates from Tevinter, once referring to all lands beyond the Imperium and eventually, it came to encompass the entire continent. A native of Thedas is referred to as a Thedosian.

Summary: Thedas, from it's WFE, is inspired from Dragon Age, a role-playing game series, as well as tabletop game, anime, comic series, etc. Pretty much as spread out across the spectrum of what it is as the fanbase of Touhou Project.

But enough rambling about the WFE, let's get to the region. Upon first glance, it's dead empty. Upon second glance, you see that it's still dead empty. The community consists only of non-WA nations, so I can guess that none of the nations in the region are mains.

A shame. Seeing as I talked about all there is to talk about, let's get to the review

Review:

COMMUNITY (0 out of 10) – There is no evidence of a community at all. All I see is 15 inactive nations, and one who noticed they were featured. 0.

GOVERNMENT (What Government?)

NAME AND BEAUTY (2 out of 10) – All the region has is some facts about Dragon Age in it's WFE and is completely uninteresting to read, unless you're a die-hard Dragon Age fan. 2 for the two fields that reflect the concept.

And the Hina Kagiyama Overall Featured Region Score is 0. Even to a Dragon Age fan, this region would be about as fun as a playdate at a morgue. The region has about three minutes of effort put into it by the founder, and it's amazing how many people could handle doing nothing all day. At least it can be re-purposed later, if the founder CTEs, with the executive delegate setting left on. (Disclaimer: Hey there Bobby, raiding is bad...unless they're a Wikipedia article disguised as a NS region.)

Seeing as this is another useless review for a useless region, let's end it with a surprise! Urameshiya!

Apologies for the 37 day hiatus of mine. I was visiting with my family for the past month, and had fallen out of addressing the Featured Regions.

Expect my next review to be on Sunday, when I'll be back at home and not distracted by people I haven't seen in months.~

Oops, guess I fell asleep for a while :-)

I've been inactive too.

Welcome back, Ninja Crow. :)

Hello I am Marastra of Friendship!
Friendship is a region that is being led by her majesty Queen Lexi G! I was sent here to look around this region and see how awesome you guys are! If you plan on visiting a kingdom of warm hearted welcoming natins then visig Friendship!

Do we as a region care about the Zombie Game?

Slept through it, sorry. Though The Hound of the Baskervilles vs. The Zombies of Dartmoor would make a fine B movie.

Congratulations

Am I the only one here?

Hello, Congratulations, nice to meet you. There are some of us still here. I support anyone who still attempts to visit featured regions with good intent. So if you like to try it for a while, good luck.

It was a very joyful, communicative, interesting thing to do. I have given up travelling to featured regions as a result of griefing on NationStates. 'Griefing' is using the game trying to annoy or upset other people. Details here.

Why I have had to give up featured region following

Congratulations

yeah, thanks!
I try to enter regions, then come back immediately.
