Merry!
*runs to high five him*
Nice seeing you back man :D
Yes nothing is more important than taking away the fundamental rights that make up a democracy, governments are meant to be held accountable and any and all harsh criticism is to be warranted. Your bill does nothing to improve the region but set up a government who would be able to rule with a iron fist.
Glad to see you, too, Bordu. Thanks for the warm welcome.
*high fives Anty and hands him a lollipop with a malicious wink*
Anty, you rascal, I quite missed our IRC sessions and everything :D
Well Merry, look at where I am now! I never thought I would be in this position! But I am! And I am doing a mostly successful job at it! Merry, Please Stay. We could use someone like you!
*A small child comes out of nowhere and starts asking Merry if she can have lollipop!*
Thank you :)
Congratulations, then. I'm happy for you ;)
Freedom of Speech is a 1700's conceived idea, and all credible definitions of democracy have no mention of freedom of speech. And besides, this act was meant to stop things such as, "You CoCers are nazi fascist scum and I hope you all burn in hell for eternity", it is in no way going to end things like, "Hey guys I really don't think the position of Secretary-General is very efficient, would anyone support an amendment to remove this position?". This act is against trolls and nonsense, it however is not against criticism, when done in the proper forums.
Chenango sends chocolate cakes and a pair of Hippopotamus to all members of the CoC region in celebration of Patrick Duffy Day.

That's nice.
Trolling and such are already seen in Decorum Act
Freedom of speech is necessary to have democracy. Rule by the people is impossible if the people are forced to remain silent.
Here here!
Your bill is so board in definition anything that opposes the REC would be considered "treason". The very fact that in order to be allowed to criticize one must gain approval.
He should elaborate and edit his proposed legislation.
No. You will not join this war. We are too far in for another person to become involved.
I mention "unreasonable defamation" in the bill. I think that is narrow enough; illogically damaging the name of the CoC. Are you seriously opposing this?
If people want to say something, they should be able to say it. Regardless of how demeaning this may be, one of the necessary factors for a healthy community, never mind a democracy, is freedom of speech.
I might not like what some people say, however, I do stand by their right to speak about whatever they like.
"All unreasonable defamation of the Commonwealth of Crowns, the Presidium, the Regional Executive Council, the Regional Executive Cabinet, the High Court, the members of the departments listed on the REC, or their structure, is hereby banned and shall be treated as treason."
What's unreasonable? Is it defined by the High Court? In which case, if the judges consent, couldn't "I really don't think the position of Secretary-General is very efficient" be "defamatory"?

As Chief Justice, it is my opinion that any step, no matter its intent or size, is a dangerous move against the freedom of expression. Just because what someone says may be ridiculous or unwarranted, gives no due cause to restrict it.
In 1977, a group called the Illinois Nazis sued for a permit to hold a rally parade in Skokie, IL. Skokie is a suburb of Chicago, and is a mainly ethnic Jewish area. The town and the Nazis' case went to the Supreme Court.
The decision: The Illinois Nazis won the case. Their viewpoint was horrendous and plainly evil, but there is no legal basis on which they could be defeated. I don't support the group or any teaching it holds, but I will defend their right to be able to express it. (As Evan stated above). This is the core essence of democracy, and it is why I can not in good faith support your bill, Etho. No matter how good its intentions are.
Me and Etho are going to war instead.
And Merry's back. Now I can make Mereen jokes again.
Well. my economy needs to recover.
