If I may, what are your guys opinions on the following two things:
Welfare
and
Patriotism
Possibly I hold a dissenting view from the rest of the region, but I support patriotism.
Not equating it with blind nationalism, I reject imperialism, racism and aggression in favour of a belief in the equality of all the nations and in a strong support for the freedom and the independence of my country. And of everybody else. I'm proud of knowing the history and the culture of my country. :)
Blind nationalism = supports the interests of one nation over the others.
Patriotism = supports the self-determination of your nation and of all the others.
It's like believing in personal freedom. As long as yours doesn't harm the personal freedom of another people it's fine :)
(Note: this doesn't mean I can't show some cosmopolitan behaviour, such as recognizing the existence of a bond between proletarians worldwide which shouldn't be hurt by national divisions.)

Think of the resistance movements throughout occupied Europe in WWII, or of the guerrillas who fought for the decolonization in Africa and Asia.
Those two surely were positive examples of patriotism.
