That was a fantastic reply by the way! That Abovian refusal to acknowledge Sorlovian as an independent nation will massively antagonize the Sorlovians which should make for some interesting roleplay. President Alexsandr Pavlov, who will have some Putin-like strongly Sorlovian nationalist qualities, doesn't necessarily know the truth behind the whole situation.
As you said, Sorlovia is a newly emerged nation still struggling to recover from decades of Communism. But while he might not know the exact truth President Pavlov won't the Abovian's dictate terms - get ready for some good old Russian fiery stubbornness :P
